This study examined the relationships between the blood heavy metal (Pb, Hg and Cd) concentration and exposure-related factors. The subjects were 2,042 (male: 953, female: 1,089) who were recruited through a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Differences in the concentrations of mercury were observed in males, whereas females showed differences in lead and cadmium. Analyses of the blood concentrations according to body mass index and waist circumference showed significantly higher concentrations of mercury. In males, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol of dyslipidemia was higher than normal in the blood lead concentration. In females, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol of dyslipidemia was higher than normal in the blood lead concentration. The blood lead and cadmium concentrations of male smokers was higher than non-smokers, and cadmium showed the same results in females. The blood lead levels were higher in male alcohol consumers than non-drinkers. The blood concentrations of mercury and cadmium showed significant differences according to household income. Blood concentrations of heavy metals were closely related to exposure-related factors, and age, smoking, drinking alcohols, obesity, hyperlipidemia, and household income were found to be relevant.
This study was conducted to find out biological response of Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum exposed to lead (Pb). Experimental period was four weeks. Experimental groups were composed of one control condition and three lead exposure conditions (0.25, 0.50 and 1.00 mg/l). The results of the study confirmed that lead induces reduction of survival rate and oxygen consumption rate and histopathology of organ structure of the bivalve. Oxygen consumption rate was observed exposure groups lower than control decline by 25%-72%. Histological analysis of organ system illustrated expansion of hemolymph sinus, disappearance of epidermal layer and degeneration of connective tissue layer of the mantle. Also, histological degenerations as epithelial necrosis and hyperplasia of mucous cells are recognized in the gill and it was observed expansion of hemolymph sinus, disruption of epithelial layer, decrease of mucous cell and degeneration of connective tissue layer in the foot. In the digestive diverticulum, it was showed atrophy of basophilic cell and degeneration of epithelial cell in the digestive tubules, and as the concentration of lead increased the accumulation of lipofuscin increased.
Seventy-two crossbred gilts of approximately 33 kg initial weight were used in this study. The gilts were randomly assigned into three groups. The three dietary treatments were basal diet only (control group), basal diet+10 mg/kg lead, and basal diet+10 mg/kg lead+0.5% particulate montmorillonite (PM). The results showed that the addition of lead to the diet decreased significantly the body weight and feed efficiency, but PM could restore body weight and feed efficiency of gilts compared to the Pb exposure group. There were no significant differences in weights of ovaries and uteri with addition of either lead or PM to the diet. Supplementing the lead in the diet of gilts also significantly increased the concentration of lead in blood, decreased circulating lutenizing hormone (LH) and estradiol (E$_2$) levels in serum, the addition of PM to the diet effectively adsorbed and lowered lead concentration in the blood. These data suggested that lead disrupts the signals between the hypothalamus and pituitary gland in gilts, and possibly suppressed the secretion of relative growth hormone and sex hormone. On the other hand, PM may ameliorate Pb toxicity in pigs.
Lead apron is harmful to the human body because it is made at heavy metals, and when worn for long periods of time, it causes pain. Therefore, this paper intended to improve the defects of lead apron by using new material shields. For the comparative evaluation of lead and new material shieldes, the shielding rate and weight were measured and tested based on lead 0.5 mmPb. The rate of shielding was 97% based on lead at 0.5 mm thickness, while The new material shield T3 showed similar shielding rates as lead in 8 layers, and in T2 these values were measured in 11 layers. In addition, similar shielding rate was measured in 12 layers at B2, and 8 layers in BF, and 4 layers in $BF_2$. Comparing the weight of cases when commercialized with apron, T3, T2 and B2 were heavier than lead apron. But BF, $BF_2$ were lighter than the lead apron. Based on the results of the experiment, T3 and T2 can be used as an alternative to lead if human or environmental hazards are considered a priority. However, BF and $BF_2$ should be used if the reduction of external exposure is considered a priority.

In mass casualty situation due to radiological accidents, it is important to start aggressive management with rapid triage decisions. External contamination needs immediate decontamination and internal contamination should be treated with special expertise and equipment to prevent the rapid uptake of radionuclides by target organs. Acute radiation syndrome shows a sequence of events that varies with the severity of the exposure. More severe exposures generally lead to more rapid onset of symptoms and severe clinical findings. After the massive exposure, various systems of the body reflect their severe damages that can lead to death within hours or up to several months. The disease progression has classically been divided into four stages: prodromal, latent, manifest illness, and recovery or death. Three characteristic clusters of symptoms including the hematopoietic syndrome, the gastrointestinal syndrome and the cerebrovascular syndrome are all associated with the acute radiation syndrome. The standard medical management of the patients with a potentially survivable radiation exposure includes good medical, surgical and supportive measures. Specific treatment with cytokines and bone marrow transplantation should be considered. The management of internal contamination is much the same as the treatment of poisoning. The standard decontamination should be applied to reduce uptake, and the chelating agents can be administered to enhance the clearance of radioisotopes. Radioactive iodine ($^{131}I$) as one of the nuclear fission products can increase the incidence of thyroid cancer in children. Potential benefit of potassium iodide prophylaxis is greater especially in neonates, infants and small children.
Laminated rubber bearing is very popular base isolation of earthquake engineering pertaining to the passive structural vibration control technologies. Rubber used in fabricating NRB and LRB can be easily attacked by various environmental factors such as oxygen, heat, light, dynamic strain, and organic liquids. Among these factors, this study carried out thermal aging test to investigate the effect of thermal aging on the mechanical properties of laminated rubber bearings in accelerated exposure condition of $70^{\circ}C$ temperature for 168 hours. The compressive-shear test was carried out to identify the variation of compressive and shear properties of the rubber bearings before and after thermal aging. In contrast to tensile strength and elongation tests, the hardness of rubber materials showed the increasing tendency dependent on exposure temperature and period. Based on the test results, the property changes of rubber bearing mainly aged by heat are quantitatively presented.
The effects of ginseng ethanol extract on the toxicity of lead acetate in mice were examined. Mice were given intraperitoneally daily doses of lead acetate 50 mg/kg with ginseng ethanol extract 50 mg/kg, 100 mg and 200 mg/kg for 3 weeks. The exposure of lead acetate showcd the toxicity at all experimental assay such as the gain of body weight, the ratio of some organs weight to body weight, serum transaminase activity and creatinine value, hematocrit and WBC counts. These toxicities were inhibited significantly by the ginseng ethanol extract administration. The 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg administration of ginseng ethanol extract inhibited histopathological changes on kidney by lead acetate, whereas the 200 mg/kg administration of the fraction enhanced histopathological changes.

Essential metals have been known to interact with non-essential toxic metals in the aspects of absorption, transport and deposition in the body. Iron deficiency has been reported to increase lead and/or cadmium absorption. The relation between iron and lead has been understood well in children but not in adults. Two hundred seventy adults (118 males and 152 females) were recruited from 3 different residental areas (rural, coastal and urban) to investigate the effects of environmental lead exposure on body iron status. The subjects were interviewed for life-style and diet of the last 24 hours, and measured for blood lead and body iron. The lead concentration in the whole blood was determined by a flameless method using an atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The body iron was evaluated with values of hemoglobin, hematocrit, RBCs, serum total iron, unsaturated iron binding capacity, total iron binding capacity and ferritin. The mean concentration of blood lead in adult was $3.31{\mu}g/dL$. The concentration was higher in male ($3.97{\mu}g/dL$) than in female ($2.86{\mu}g/dL$). The blood lead was influenced by residental area, life-style, smoking and drinking, occupation and diet habit of subjects, but not by age. A positive correlation was observed between the blood lead level and the serum iron or ferritin. These results suggest that environmental lead exposure in Korean adult may not be higher than other developed and developing countries. It is further indicated that blood lead in adult could be influenced by life-style, and environmental and genetic factors but no inverse relation with body iron as shown in children.

This study was conducted to estimate the contents of heavy metals including lead, cadmium, zinc, copper as well as iron status(serum iron, total iron binding capacity, feritin etc)in blood samples of middle school students(n=300). The contents of heavy metals were determined using the GF-AAS (Graphite furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer). The microwave digestion method and dilution method were compared. The dilution method showed the better recovery and detection limit than microwave digestion method. The values of toxic metals in whloe blood of boys & girls were 3.46 & 3.05 for Pb,0.063 & 0.065 for Cd respectively (ug/dL). Also the values of trace metals in serum of boys & girls were 105.9 & 92.6 for Zn, 98.3 & 99.0 for Cu respectively (ug/dL). The prevalence of iron deficiency was $7.5\%$ in 146 boys and $14.3\%$ in 156 girls. The mean values of lead in girls were higher in iron deficiency, iron deficiency anemia and anemia groups than normal group. The mean values of lead and zinc were higher in boys compared to those in girls(P<0.05), the mean values of cadmium and copper in boys were similar to those in girls. Our results of toxic metals such as Pb & Cd showed lower to CDC's(Centers for Disease Control) blood lead levels of concern for children, 10 ug/dL.
Recently, due to the increased use of medical radiation, the radiation exposure of radiation workers should be considered as well as medical exposure of patients. And it is recommended to close the door during radiography. however, In this study, when the door was inevitably opened for radiography, the proposed method was to install the shield as a method of reducing the exposure dose. And its efficiency was analyzed. In simple chest radiography, the measurement point was changed according to the measurement location. Dose rate were measured 10 times for each condition using a dosimeter. And the average value was derived. Using this, the change of dose according to the opening and closing of the door and the installation of the shield was analyzed. Using this, we compared and analyzed the dose change according to the door opening and closing and the installation of the shield, and significance was verified through the SPSS ver. 24. Depending on whether the door was opened or closed, 11,215.35%, 159.0%, 101.9% increased in front of the door in the consol room, behind the wall and behind the lead glass. Depending on the installing of the shield, the 49.2%, 29.6%, 19.9%, 30.6% decrease in front of the door in the examination and consol room, behind the wall and lead glass. In addition, statistical analysis was showed that there were significant differences in both the results according to whether the door was opened or closed and shielding(p<.05). Close the door during radiography. However, when the door should be opened, it was confirmed that the dose rate were reduced by installing the shield. Therefore, to optimize radiation protection, it is recommended to install shields when opening the door.
