The planning and design of healthcare architecture generally requires the participation and consultation of skilled experts since it has more complex space program than any other buildings. Therefore, the computer-based expert systems for the planning of healthcare architecture have been tried continuously. The recent development of BIM technologies and object-oriented CAAD systems is leading these attempts to realize gradually. Thus, this study attempts to verify whether the new evaluation model and system of the spatial layout, which are based on the validation of space program that developed in earlier studies, are applicable to real examples of design competition. Through this simulation, this study tries to find the possibility of expert systems for the planning of healthcare architecture and act as basic data for the development of new system for the integrated design environment based on BIM technologies in the near future.
This study aimed at acknowledging characteristics of space usage and suggesting orientation of space planning and furniture designing that meet various residents' demands correlating with residential area, furniture and family members by doing fact finding of volume of the furniture in medium/small sized apartment. The contents of the study are "experience of functional remodeling," "a number of bedrooms correlating with a number of family" and "furniture arrangement of each space and characteristics of space utilization" based on forty six cases. Followings are results of the study. 1) It was acknowledged that the function of space relating to family members largely depends on furniture arrangement correlating with age of children. It is needed that flexible planning of residential area to meets growing children and various family demands. 2) Functional remodeling requires furniture rearrangement attended with the remodeling. Thus, it is required that ideas in more simple and efficient furniture designing and consideration of construction environment embracing that ideas. 3) It can be acknowledged that the most demanding matter to enjoy satisfied and comfortable life in residential area is the matter of storage area. It is also understandable that the matter can be worse by time going by and the change of living pattern. Therefore, it is required that the consideration of enough storage area compatible with its function of the room and the planning of built-in furniture for storage.

The objective of this study is to analyze the layout types by the characteristics of 24 high school sites in Gyeonggi-do. These 24 high schools were built to establish the learner-oriented education in high schools to comply with the 7th Curriculum of the Ministry of Education. The 7th Curriculum has been altered from the supply-oriented to the demand-oriented and learner-oriented one since the year of 2000 to meet the demands of the fast moving society. For this study, the following researches have been conducted; 1) Literature were reviewed to examine the educational systems that supported architectural planning of existing high schools. 2) The environment and characteristics of the high school sites were investigated and current move in planning of high school site was examined. 3) Layout types were classified by the configurations of existing high school buildings. The output of this study was used to find the architectural data such as building site, building coverage, floor area ratio, the number of floors, site shape, direction and front of building.

With an increasing trend toward high-rise modular construction, the simultaneous use of tower cranes at a modular construction site has recently been observed. Tower crane layout planning (TCLP) has a significant effect on cost, duration, safety and productivity of a project. In a modular construction project, particularly, poor decision about the layout of tower cranes is likely to have negative effects like additional employment of cranes and redesign, which will lead to additional costs and possible delays. It is, therefore, crucial to conduct thorough inspection of field conditions, lifting materials, tower crane capacity to make decisions on the layout of tower cranes. However, several challenges exist in planning for a multi-crane construction site in terms of safety and collaboration, which makes planning with experience and intuition complicated. This paper suggests a multi-objective optimization model for selection of the number of tower cranes, their models and locations, which minimizes cost and conflict. The proposed model contributes to the body of knowledge by showing the feasibility of using multi-objective optimization for TCLP decision-making process with consideration of trade-offs between cost and conflict.

As a functionally complicated facility, it requires rational strategy to accommodate multi-functional needs to plan a hospital. Ambulatory surgery units located in large hospitals have problems such as longer waiting time and congestion for patients due to complicated planning and organization within limited area, which raise needs for independent ambulatory surgery centers to enable smoother medical treatment for patients. To design an independent ambulatory surgery center, understanding of zoning and layout of each unit needs is particularly required. This study focuses on research of efficient zoning/organization of day surgery unit and circulation arrangements of ambulatory surgery centers by analyzing various examples abroad, which will eventually help finding appropriate way of planning domestic ambulatory surgery centers. Specific area of research includes ambulatory surgery process, programmatic requirements, spatial organization of the facility, layout of surgery unit and circulation arrangements of ambulatory surgery centers.

This paper describes some research works of computer-aided design of blanking and piercing progressive die for stator and rotor parts. An approach to the system is based on knowledge based rules. The deveolped system is composed of six modules such as main program, input and shape treatment, production feasibility check, strip layout, die layout and drawing edit module. Using this system, design parameters ( geometric shapes, die and punch dimensions and dimensions of tool elements) are determined and output is gen- erated in graphic from. Knowledges for tool design are extracted from the plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know-hows of experts in blkanking companies. The developed system provides powerful capabilities for process planning and die design of stator and rotor parts.

Formwork accounts for a large proportion of the framework in high-rise construction projects in terms of the duration and cost. Especially, slab formwork has a significant influence on these factors. However, the current selection of formwork method in general contractors depends on the decisions of few experienced engineers, and layout planning of the formwork in specialty contractors requires lots of time by different floor types. As a preliminary study for developing an optimum layout model in slab formwork of high-rise building construction, this study proposes the process of the optimum layout model and determines a fitness function for use of the genetic algorithm aimed at table formwork.
Due to its large size, a ship is first divided into scores of blocks and then each block is constructed through various shops, such as the assembly shop, the painting shop, and the outfitting shop. However, each block may not be directly moved to the next shop and may be temporarily laid at a block stockyard because the working time in each shop is different from each other. If blocks are laid at the block stockyard without any planning, the rearrangement of the blocks by a transporter is required because the blocks have the different in and out time. In this study, a block layout method based on the genetic algorithm was proposed in order to minimize the rearrangement of the blocks in the block stockyard. To evaluate the applicability of the proposed method, it was applied to simple layout problems of the block stockyard. The result shows that the proposed method can yield a block layout that minimizes the total relocation cost of moving obstacle blocks in the block stockyard.

The marine leisure industry in Korea has been the focus of the power of economic growth and the creation of jobs in recent years. In this regard, many studies concerning marine leisure are on-going in various fields. In this paper, developed a layout system and algorithm can resolve the factory and facility layout problem. For a layout design of leisure-boat factories, the leisure-boat production process is analyzed in order to derive standard production space elements for the layout of the factory. Based on the results, a draft design of the factory layout is carried out based on the manpower planning data, as well as the characteristics and relationships of each process data. A layout design of this paper can be verified through a factory simulation solution and we suggest the verification method using a SBD(simulation based design) methodology. The layout system takes into account the user's accessibility and extendibility, so it is web-oriented and uses RIA (rich Internet Application) technology. Furthermore, the system and layout algorithm of this paper are verified with samples data that show the efficient factory arrangement and practical application method.

Unnecessary transportation of resources are one of the major causes that adversely affect construction site work productivity. Therefore, layout related studies have been conducted with efforts to develop management technologies and techniques to minimize the resource transportation made at site-level. However, although the necessity for floor-level layout planning studies has been increasing as buildings have become larger and floors have become more complicated, studies to optimize the transportation of materials inside buildings are currently not being actively conducted. Therefore, in this study, a model was developed using genetic algorithms(GA) that will enable the optimization of the locations of finishing materials on the work-floor. With the established model, the arrangement of diverse materials on complicated floors can be planned and the optimized material layout planning derived from the model can minimize the total material transportation time spent by laborers during their working day. In addition, to calculate travel distances between work sites and materials realistically, the concept of actual travel distances was applied. To identify the applicability of the developed model and compare it with existing methodologies and analyze it, the model was applied to actual high-rise residential complexes.
