  • Objective: The present research was conducted to evaluate the interactive effect of dietary concentration of calcium (Ca) and 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 (25OHD3) on the performance, blood composition and digestibility of laying hens. Methods: A total of 540 Hy-line brown laying hens aged 61 to 70 weeks were randomly allotted in a 3×3 factorial arrangement, consisting of three levels of 25OHD3 (0, 25, and 50 ㎍/kg) and three levels of Ca (3.5%, 4.0%, and 4.5%). All diets had basal concentration of 3,000 IU/kg of vitamin D3 including the 2,800 kcal/kg of metabolic energy and 16% of crude protein. Results: The results showed that interactive effect (p<0.05) between Ca and 25OHD3 was such that dietary 25OHD3 linearly increased interleukin-6 at all levels of Ca inclusion. Interaction (p<0.05) occurred with the highest parathyroid hormone in laying hens that received dietary concentration of Ca (3.5%) with 25OHD3 (50 ㎍/kg), and Ca (4.0%) with 25OHD3 (50 ㎍/kg). Egg production and egg weight significantly (p<0.05) increased in the 4.5% Ca group compared to the 3.5% to 4.0% Ca groups. Egg shell thickness and tibia bone length also increased (p<0.05) in groups fed a high-Ca diet (4.0% to 4.5%). Phosphorus digestibility significantly (p<0.05) increased along with dietary Ca level. Among the tested 25OHD3 groups, higher (p<0.05) egg production and tibia thickness were present in hens fed 50 ㎍/kg of 25OHD3. Furthermore, Ca digestibility serum Ca and 25OHD3 were significantly increased in group offered 50 ㎍/kg of 25OHD3. Conclusion: The results gathered in this study indicate that dietary concentrations of 4.0% to 4.5% Ca and 50 ㎍/kg 25OHD3 improve the performance of hens from 61 to 70 weeks of age.

  • The current experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of diallel crossbreeding on the body weight and laying performance of Korean native chicken from hatch to week 40. A total of 1,000 one-day-old chicks were allotted to 10 cages per crossbreeding treatment with 10 birds per cage on a random basis and then raised until 16 weeks and subsequently moved to layer battery cages and raised until 40 weeks. Ten crossbred treatments (YC, YD, YF, YK, CD, CF, CK, DF, DK, FK) that were obtained from the diallel crossbred of five pure lines were used in the current experiment. The body weight and mortality were measured biweekly from hatching to week 20 and every four weeks from week 20 to week 40. The number of eggs was measured daily. YC and YD crossbreeds showed a higher body weight (p < 0.05) and FK crossbreed showed a lower body weight (p < 0.05) during the whole xperimental period. The week 20 weight range was 1,501 to 1,729 g and the week 40 weight range was from 1,829 to 2,179 g. Earlier onset of egg-laying was noted in the YC and YD groups whereas late onset was observed for the DF and DK groups. YK reached its peak earliest at week 25 with 89.15% while the DK crossbreed attained its peak at week 36 with 89.69%. The YC and YD crossbreeds showed the improved body and egg-laying performance. Conclusively, there are variations in the body weight and laying performance of Korean native chickens with diallel crossing.

  • The purpose of this experiment was to determine the influence of providing laying hens with extra feed on egg production and egg quality parameters. A total of 480 laying hens (38-weeks old), were divided into five treatment groups (eight replicate cages/treatment and 12 layer/replicate) according to their starting body weight (1.98 ± 0.05 kg) in this four-week feeding trial. Five different feed allowances of the same diet (105, 110, 115, 120, and 125 g·day-1·bird-1) were assigned to layers. Daily inspections of remaining feed (around 0.1g) and layer mortality (0%) showed no harmful impact of supplying extra feed to layers. Providing 120 and 125 g of feed per day to layers resulted in the highest final body weight, large-egg ratio, and improved yolk color among all treatment groups. Layers receiving 125 g of feed daily had the highest egg weight, but the highest egg production ratio was observed in layers receiving 110 g of feed/day. The additional supply of feed did not have a negative impact on the productive performance or egg quality of the layers. The provision of 125 g feed per day led to an improvement of large-egg ratio, egg weight, and yolk color, but likely led to obesity of the layers, which manifested as an increase in body weight and a decline in the egg production ratio. We concluded that 110 grams of feed was the proper quantity after taking into consideration the significance of the health of the laying hen to the overall production performance.

  • The chicken eye can discriminate light color, and different light wavelengths may affect reproduction ability. This study was carried out to identify effect of monochromatic light using light emitting diode (LED) in laying hens. Chickens were exposed to white light (WL), blue light (BL), yellow light (YL), green light (GL) and red light (RL) made by using LED as well as incandescent light (IL) (control). All light sources were equalized to a light intensity of 20 lux. The results indicated that the age of first egg laying and 50 % egg laying in laying hens treated under RL is significantly younger than under other lights (P<0.05). And the ovary weight of laying hens reared under RL is significantly heavier than under other at from 16 to 20 wks (P<0.05). The largest number of eggs production was produced in a group with treated with RL by 59 wks of age compared with any other group. The egg weight of YL was greater than other treatment groups from 26 to 45 wks (P<0.05). The egg shell from hens treated with RL was the strongest and thickest at 20 wk (P<0.05). These results suggest that the egg quality of laying hens reared in different spectrum of LED can be different and RL may enhance the laying performance.

  • The red yeast Phaffia rhodozyma, which contains astaxanthin(3, 3'-dihydroxy-$\beta$, $\beta$-carotene-4, 4'-dione) as its primary carotenoid, was tested as a dietary pigment source for egg yolks of laying hens. When the yeast was fed to laying hens at several concentrations, the intensity of redness in egg yolks was dependent on the yeast concentration in the feed and the deposition period. Addition of P rhodozyma in feed did not cause any visible adverse effect on laying hens.

  • In Korea, there still exist a number of modern architectural structures which were built from 1876 - when Korea first opened its port to foreign trade - to the early 1960s. Modern architectures have been rather neglected from the study of Korean architecture history partly because of its short period and negative attitude toward them that they are remains of the Japanese colonial period. However, interest in modern structures is recently increasing, and researches and studies are actively going on. This dissertation is a study on brick laying techniques and design characteristics of Modern brick structure churches in Jeonbuk-province. The results demonstrate that modern brick structure churches in Jeonbuk-province have become small and simple with time and that their structures and designs are closely related.

  • To maintain the strength obtained with metal ceramic restorations, excellent gradient of translucency, wear resistance in the same range as enamel and good marginal integrity, all ceramics have been developed with many advantages in recent years. Authentic (Ceramay, Germany) is a type of low fusing, leucite-reinforced pressable ceramic that allows both the laying technique and the staining technique or the combination of the two. Two-phase glass ceramic will allow achieving unmatched esthetics even with the simplest laying or staining technique. The ingots and laying porcelain come in Vita shades. Case selection has to be the most crucial thing to achieve optimal esthetics, and cooperation with technician has to be emphasized to satisfy patient's highest esthetic demands.

  • Most female Great Tits lay one egg each day until the clutch is complete. However, some exceptions are found. “Pause day/s” most frequently occur after the 1st egg is laid. In general, egg-size increase with laying sequence, but there is year-to-year variation. The relationship between egg size and laying sequence is found more significantly in relatively larger clutches than in smaller ones. Great Tits tend to advance the hatching of their chicks by starting to incubate earlier in relation to clutch completion as the breeding season progresses. hatching asynchrony affects chick´s growth rate, but when the effect of laying date on hatching asynchrony is controlled, the effect of hatching asynchrony on growth rate is not found. These findings support the ´hurry-up´ hypothesis.
