A Study on Determinants Affecting At-home Laver Consumption Expenditures : Type II Tobit Model Treating Sample Selection Bias (김 가정 소비 지출의 결정 요인 분석 : 선택 편의를 고려한 Type II 토빗 모형을 이용하여)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the determinants of at-home laver consumption expenditures using the data from a survey of households implemented in 2009. It happened that non-response ratios of monthly expenditures on dry laver and flavored laver among sampled households are 18.8% and 25.6%. Accordingly, this study tries to analyze the determinants affecting at-home laver consumption expenditures by using type II tobit model, one of sample selection models, to deal with sample selection bias caused from non-response data. Analysis results show the age variable positively affects expenditures on dry laver but negatively contributes to expenditures on flavored laver. In addition, the household size, the household's income, the degree of preference for laver have positive relationships with both expenditures. Household size elasticity and income elasticity of the expenditure on dry laver are estimated as 0.220 and 0.251. In the case of flavored laver, these elasticities are estimated as 0.484 and 0.261. Such analysis results can provide information on division of the at-home laver consumption market into groups with high willingness to expense and implementation of detailed marketing strategies to increase at-home laver consumption. The methodology of this study can be applied to consumer preference analysis on other marine products and other analyses on sample with non-response data in the fishery research.

A Study on Relationship between Urinary Stone Patients and Dietary Intake in Korean People (한국인의 요로결석과 식이의 상관성 고찰)

  • The study analyzes relationship between Increasing tendency of urinary stone patients and changes of food intake through statistical data during recent 10 years(1982∼1991) in Korea. In four university hospitals, the number of urinary stone patients increased 2.5 times during the period. Study statistics showed sex ratio of male and female patient as 2.1 : 1.The types of the urinary stone of each patient were broad and mostly Ca and others(85.8%), and Ca oxalate stones were 65.2%. The incidence of patients with hypercalciuria and hyperuricosuria was observed in the Ca stone patients than in normal person. The same period showed increase of total monthly household expenditure as 3.2 times, food as 2.5 times and medical expenses as 2.4 times : The food expenditure decreased relatively In the expenditure composition. Daily hood consumption (g/person) increased as 3 times in meat, 4 times in milk, 2.4 times in seaweeds. Daily total Ca nutrition consumption was undulant and became 1.1 times during the same period. Daily food supply (g/person) was increased 1.9 times in meat, 1.4 times in spinach. However, anchovy, laver, brown seaweed, herring and makerel showed undulant tendency. Relationship (correlation coefficient) between the increase of urinary stone patients and of food intake were studied as follows. In the case of food intake, the relative index was 0.923 in seaweeds, 0.865 in meat and 0.대27 In milk And In food supply, the relative index was 0.855 in purine group which constitute meat, anchovy, herring and makerel. The relative index of Ca components which constitute anchovy, laver, brown seaweed and shrimp was 0.270. In the case of nutrition intake, the relative index was medium in protein(r: 0.443) and In animal protein (r: 0.488) but was negative in Ca(r: -0.028).

A Study on Marketing of Cultured Laver Products (양식해태의 유통에 관한 조사 연구)

  • Laver io one of the most necessary and seasonal items in Korean food from oldtimes. Laver is lagely eaten in dried form, and its supply depends entirely upon culture weeds. The history of laver culture in Korea about sixty or seventy years is older than in Japan. Significance of laver culture is divided into two aspects, one is food supply in the nation, and the other is export to other countries. Houses engaged in laver culture are about foully thousands, and laver production in 1972 is estimated as 1, 3 bitten sheets. (1 sheet is a dried laver of 20 cm sq, in the shape of paper) Especcially meaning of layer production is the concentration of labour input, and systematic management of labour. From around 1920, the method of laver culture was introduced by Japanese Imperialism for mono culture in shallow seas, and mass products of laver is provided to Japan market, DOMESTIC MARKET Fundamental consume function calculates at below, $D_{(68_71)}$=16354 $Y^{0.471}$ $P^{-1.0662}$ where D is total layer demand, Y income variable, P price variable. It means income elasticity is 476. in the whole country, and price elasticity is 1, 07. But generally income elasticity is higher in urban area than in rural area, as shown at 1, 3 in Seoul city. Expence of laver in house expenditure is mutually correlated with another expence, See Table 12 about the relative function. See Table 14 and 16 about the relation between the gathering and the changes of price in auction, wholesale and retail price support system is for two effects, one of which is constraint of the upper price, the other is rise of the lower price. Laver production in 1970 tile highest record till then, is estimated as six billion sheets. But the recent improvement of laver culture techniques, the production of seeds and freezing storage of seeds has been stabilized. Futher new culture farms have been developed by means of break- water fences or by floating culture method. These improvements have been backed up with increased demand of laver products. Import quantity and price of Korean laver products are restrained by three organizations, that is producer, distributor and consumer. This relationship calculated by regression equation shows that import is influenced only producer organization, at the sacrifice of consumer profit. For increase to export of laver products, we urgently require to open foreign trade of laver products for Japanese consumer, .and Japan has political responsibility to solve Korean laver structure. But with long run timeseries, as regards Japanese production and import quantity, importing function shows increasing trend as below, 250 million sheets <3, 947.1674+0.005 $L_{g}$ >) 600 million sheets where $L_{q}$ is relative production quantity of laver in Japan. Factors on the Seafood Preference and Eating Frequency of the Elementary School Children (초등학생의 수산식품 선호도 및 섭취 빈도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study was designed to determine the seafood prcference of the 480 elcmentaty school children in Pusan. The survey was conducted from February 8 to February 22 in 2000. The correlation between nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude is highly significant. However there were no differences in nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude berween male and frmale students. Children's prefercnce is high in laver, crab, common squid, mackerel, hair tail, shrimp, but is low in oyster, warty sea squirt and salt-fermented seafood. The factors affected on the intake frequcncy of seafood and preference were dietary attitude of the children, cducation level of the mother and recommendation of the mother. Children's opinion on the intake of seafood was influenced by their nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude and the recommendation of the mother. Eating frequcncies of the seafood were not influenced by sex, family type, monthly food expenditure and dietary attitude of the mother.
