Modelling and Measurements of Normal and Lateral Stiffness for Atomic Force Microscopy

  • Modelling and measurements of normal and lateral stiffness for atomic force microscopy (AFM) are presented in this work. Important issues, such as element discretisation, stiffness calibration, and deflection angle are explored using the finite element (FE) model. Elements with various dimension ratios are investigated and comparisons with several mathematical models are reported to verify the accuracy of the model. Investigation of the deflection angle of a cantilever is also shown. Moreover, AFM force measurement experiments with conical and colloid probe tips are demonstrated. The relationships between force and displacement, required for stiffness measurement, in normal and lateral directions are acquired for the conical tip and the limitations of the colloid probe tip are highlighted.

  • Fracture and dislocation of the four lateral metatarsal head and neck at the metatarsophalangeal joint, which may be associated with a hyperextension force, axial load, and additional rotating force, has rarely been reported. The patient was a 32-year-old man who sustained the injury in a motor vehicle accident. Manual reduction was easily performed but maintenance of reduction was difficult, due to the associated fractures of the metatarsal necks. Thus percutaneous internal fixation with Kirshner's wires was required.

We used three types of club(driver, iron7, pitching wedge). This analysis method can compare between top class golfer and beginner. And the comparison data can be used to correct the swing pose of trainee. If motion analysis system, which can measure the swing speed and instantaneous acceleration at the point of hitting a ball, is combined with this plantar foot force analysis method, new design development of golf shoes to increase comfort and ball flight distance will be available. 1. Address acting, forces concentrated in rare foot regions and lateral foot of right foot. Back swing top acting, relatively high force occurred in medial forefoot region of left foot and forefoot region of right foot. Impact acting, high force value observed in the lateral rarefoot region of left foot and medial forefoot region of right foot. Finish acting, force concentration observed on the lateral region and rarefoot region of left foot. 2. Forces were increased in address of right foot with clubs length increased. All clubs, back swing top acting, high force value observed in the lateral forefoot region of right foot.   • Railway noise and vibration has been recognized as major problems with the speed-up of rolling stock. As a kind of solution to these problems, the decrease of stiffness of track pad have been tried. However, in this case, overturning of rail due to lateral force should be considered because it can have effect on the safety of running train. Therefore, above two things - decrease of stiffness of track pad and overturning of rail due to lateral force - should be considered simultaneously for the appropriate determination of spring coefficient of track pad. With this viewpoint, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated through the comparison between the theoretical relationship about the overturning of rail and 3-dimensional FE analysis result. Two kinds of Lateral force and wheel load are used as input loads. Extracted values from the conventional estimation formula and the Shinkansen design loads are used. It is found that the overturning of rail changes corresponding to the change of the stiffness of track pad and the ratio of lateral force to wheel load. Moreover, it is found that the analysis model can have influence on the results. Through these procedure, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated.

Relationships for prediction of backstay effect in tall buildings with core-wall system

  • One of the prevailing structural systems in high-rise buildings is the core-wall system. On the other hand, the existence of one or more underground stories causes the perimeter below-grade walls with the diaphragm of grade level to constitute of a very stiff box. In this case or a similar situation, during the lateral response of a tall building, underground perimeter walls and diaphragms that provide an increased lateral resistance relative to the core wall may introduce a prying action in the core that is called backstay effect. In this case, a rather great force is generated at the diaphragm of the grade-level, acting in a reverse direction to the lateral force on the core-wall system, and thus typically causes a reverse internal shear. In this research, in addition to review of the results of the preceding studies, an improved relationship is proposed for prediction of backstay force. The new proposed relationship takes into account the effect of foundation flexibility and is presented in a non-dimensional form. Furthermore, a specific range of the backstay force to lateral load ratio has been determined. And finally, it is shown that although all suggested formulas are valid in the elastic domain, yet with some changes in the initial considerations, they can be applied to some certain non-linear problems as well.

Numerical Investigation of the Shock Interaction Effect on the Lateral Jet Controlled Missile

  • A computational study on the supersonic flow around the lateral jet controlled missile has been performed. Case studies have been performed by comparing the normal force coefficient and the moment coefficient of a missile body for several different jet flow conditions, angle of attacks, circumferential jet locations, and spouting jet angles. For the several different jet flow conditions, which include the jet pressure, the jet Mach number, and the corresponding jet mass flow rate, the results show that the normal force coefficient is almost proportional to the jet thrust but the moment coefficient is not. Distinctly different flow phenomena can be noticed as the pressure ratio and the jet Mach number increase. By investigating the angle of attack effect to the normal force and the pitching moment, it has been identified that the normal force and the pitching moment show nonlinearity with respect to the angle of attack. From the detailed flow field analyses with respect to the jet flow conditions and the angle of attacks, it is verified that most of the normal force loss and the pitching moment generation are taken place at the low-pressure region behind the jet nozzle. Furthermore, the normal force and the pitching moment characteristics of the missile have been identified by comparing different circumferential jet locations and spouting jet angles.

  • 도시형 자기부상열차는 U 자형 전자석만을 사용하여 부상공극을 일정하게 유지하며 주행한다. U자형 전자석은 그 형상 특성으로 인하여 전자석 위치에 따라 안내력을 동시에 갖기 때문에 능동적 횡공극 제어가 없이도 차량을 레일에 따라 안내할 수 있는 장점을 갖는다. 그러나 횡공극을 제어하기 않기 때문에 횡진동이 증가하여 승차감 및 주행안정성에 악영향을 미칠 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 능동제어가 없이도 횡진동을 저감시키기 위한 방법으로 횡댐퍼 적용 효과에 대한 분석이 이루어진다. 이를 위하여 자기부상열차의 횡방향 고유진동특성을 우선 해석하고, 횡방향 댐퍼를 설치했을 때의 진동저감 효과 분석이 이루어진다. 정확한 횡진동 예측을 위하여 자기부상열차의 3 차원 다물체 동역학 모델을 사용하였다. 본 논문의 결과를 통해서 자기부상열차의 횡진동 저감을 위한 횡댐퍼 채택 제안에 활용하고자 한다.

  • To reduce lateral force of traditional plunger type piston in the swash plate type hydraulic piston pumps and motors, we have proposed rod type piston with ball joint on both ends. We have studied the theoretical reaction force on two types of piston moving in the cylinder block bore. and made an experiment for the resistance force measurement on a reciprocating motion of plunger and rod type piston, changing the test condition such as swash plate angel and supply oil pressure and so on. As a result. a rod type piston has more smaller resistance force, about 29%. than a plunger type one.

  • 본 연구에서는 부상에 필요한 소비전력을 최소화 할 수 있고, 부상력과 추진력을 동시에 얻을 수 있는 제어-영구자석형 선형동기전동기에 대하여 횡변위가 기기의 추진력, 부상력, 안내력에 미치는 영향을 3차원 유한요소해석을 통하여 검토하였다. 횡변위에 대한 공극자속밀도의 분포특성과 힘 특성의 변화에 대하여 검토하고 횡변위 및 공극 길이의 변화가 기기의 특성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 해석과 실험을 통하여 분석하였다. 본 연구결과 횡변위 및 공극의 변화가 제어-영구자석형 선형동기 전동기의 특성에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 알 수 있었다.
