  • This paper is concerned with the stability analysis and the design of an auto pilot using direct model reference adaptive control for BTT missile with unknown dynamics when subjected to the longitudinal and lateral gusts. A motion of BTT missile can be separated into the longtudinal and lateral motione. The proposed algorithm is introduced different leakage terms about each motion into adaptation so as to prevent drift of the adaptive gain and alleviate gust effects and cross-coupling. The algorithm is applied to the 6DOF motion of an EMRAAT missile.

Lateral Dynamics of Multi-span Web System for Roll-to-roll Continuous Process (Roll-to-roll 연속 공정을 위한 Multi-span Web 시스템의 횡방향 운동 해석)

  • Based on the string, Euler beam, and Timoshenko beam theories, the transfer functions of axially translating web system to predict the lateral tracking are introduced in this paper. In addition, total transfer function of a multi-span web handling system is developed by the combination of the transfer functions of each single span. Experiments and computations are carried out and the results obtained for the Timoshenko beam model are compared with those of other models. The comparison indicates that the predictions from the Timoshenko and Euler beam models are quite different from that of the classical string model in both the gain and phase response. The results are expected to help in the development of high fidelity models of web tracking systems within a general computational framework.

  • In this paper, the finite element analysis model of the mult-axial wheel durability test configuration is created using SAMCEF. Mooney-Rivlin 2nd model is applied to the tire model, and the variation of the air pressure inside the tire is considered. Vertical load, lateral load and camber angle are applied to the simulation model. The tire rotates because of the friction contact with a drum, and reaches its maximum speed of 60 km/h. The dynamics stress results of the simulation and experiment are compared, and the reliability of the simulation model is verified.

Shimmy Vibration Analysis of Steering Wheel including Hydraulic Power Steering System (유압동력 조향시스템의 동역학 모델링을 통한 시미진동 해석)

  • The power steering system has been adopted in most vehicle system for an easy maneuverability. In this paper, a hydraulic power steering(HPS) model for the computer simulation is developed and used to power steering simulation. The simulation shows that the steering wheel torque with HPS model is less than that without HPS model. In addition, the shimmy vibration at the steering wheel is also simulated and compared to the test data. The lateral displacement of the steering wheel is calculated by imposing the lateral acceleration of the knuckle as a vibration input. The frequency response of the steering wheel is in a good agreement to the test data.

  • The VDC(Vehicle Dynamic Control) is a control system whose target is to improve stability of a vehicle under lateral motion. A lateral vehicle motion, especially on a slippery road, can lead to a hazardous situation, and the situation can even worsen by the driver`s inappropriate response. In this paper, two VDC systems, a fuzzy-based controller and an LQR-based controller have been developed. The controllers take as input the yaw rate and the sideslip angle of either body or rear wheel, and they yield the direct yaw moment signal by which the vehicle can gain stability during cornering. Simulations have been conducted to evaluate the performance of the control system. The results indicated that the controllers can successfully improve vehicle stability under potentially dangerous driving conditions.

Activated Physical Properties at Air-Polymer Interface

  • The surface molecular motion of monodisperse polystyrene (PS) films was examined using scanning vis-coelasticity microscopy (SVM) in conjunction with lateral force microscopy (LFM). The dynamic storage modulus, E', and loss tangent, $tan\delta$, at a PS film surface with number-average molecular weights, $M_n$, smaller than 30 k were found to be smaller and larger than those for the bulk sample, even at room temperature, meaning that the PS surface is in a glass-rubber transition or fully rubbery sate at this temperature when the $M_n$ is small. In order to quantitatively elucidate the dynamics of the molecular motion at the PS surface, SVM and LFM measurements were performed at various temperatures. The glass transition temperature, $T_g$, at the surface was found to be markedly lower than the bulk $T_g$, and this discrepancy between the surface and bulk became larger with decreasing $M_n$. Such an intensive activation of the thermal molecular motion at the PS surfaces can be explained in terms of an excess free volume in the vicinity of the film surface induced by the preferential segregation of the chain end groups.

  • Significant research efforts are ongoing to elucidate the complex molecular mechanisms underlying amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which may in turn pinpoint potential therapeutic targets for treatment. The ALS research field has evolved with recent discoveries of numerous genetic mutations in ALS patients, many of which are in genes encoding RNA binding proteins (RBPs), including TDP-43, FUS, ATXN2, TAF15, EWSR1, hnRNPA1, hnRNPA2/B1, MATR3 and TIA1. Accumulating evidence from studies on these ALS-linked RBPs suggests that dysregulation of RNA metabolism, cytoplasmic mislocalization of RBPs, dysfunction in stress granule dynamics of RBPs and increased propensity of mutant RBPs to aggregate may lead to ALS pathogenesis. Here, we review current knowledge of the biological function of these RBPs and the contributions of ALS-linked mutations to disease pathogenesis.

Development of a Wheel/Rail Geometric Contact Simulation Program (차륜/레일 기하학적 접촉 시뮬레이션 프로그램 개발)

  • Wheel/Rail geometric constraint relationships, such as effective conicity and gravitational stiffness, strongly influence the lateral dynamics of railway vehicles. In general, these geometric contact characteristics are nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral displacement. There is a need to develop a wheel/rail geometric contact simulation program for wheels and rails with arbitrary profiles for the prediction of the dynamic behavior of railway vehicles. An algorithm to simulate any combination of wheels and rails is employed and a GUI for easy analysis is constructed. The simulation program is applied to KTX which will run on both KTX and conventional rails, two rail standards having different rail profiles. The results show that the two rail systems have different geometric contact characteristic

The Structural and Frequency Response Analysis for the Bogie of the Rubber Wheel-type AGT (고무차륜형식 경전철(AGT) 대차의 구조해석 및 주파수 응답해석)

  • Rubber wheel-type AGT has two major kinds of bogie; one is the bogie type and the other and passenger loads. This paper deals with the statics analysis for two types of bogie frame subjected to combined external forces, as well as independent ones specified in UIC 515-4. Furthermore, the dynamics analysis is performed under vibrational loading conditions so as to compare dynamic characteristics, Numerical results by using commercial packages, Ⅰ-DEAS and NASTRAN show that maximum stresses do not exceed the yielding level of material used for both bogies. From an overall viewpoint of strength, the bogie type turns out to be superior to the steering type except the case of a lateral loading. It is also observed that the steering type shows a be stiffened. It is strongly anticipated that vibrational fatigue analysis should be carried out under realistic loading conditions closely matching to situations such as running surface and lateral clearances along the guideway.
