We studied the historical changes of intervertebral disc displacement using magnetic resonance imaging. The phenomenon of the spontaneous regression of herniated discs is well known. The case of a 40-years-old male presenting with a large disc herniation at L5-S1, experiencing severe sciatic pain, and having the straight leg raising test positive at 25 degrees is presented. The extruded disc was documented by clinical examination. He was treated conservatively with epidural steroid injection (ESI), medication, physical therapy and self-exercise and reevaluated in 10 weeks later, 30 and 1 year. Large extruded disc can be treated successfully by physical therapy with ESI. However, the degeneration and the dehydration of disc result in decrease of disc height. Consequently, the regression of extruded disc might have been due to the resorption and the dehydration.

A case of periocular dirofilariasis has been diagnosed in Iran. A 27-yr old female referred with a history of edema and redness in the left eye since 2 wk ago. On slit lamp examination, a moving thread-like worm was seen in the subconjunctival area. Two days later, a 126 mm long, live filaria worm was extracted from the lower lid subcutaneous tissue. The worm was diagnosed as, likelihood, Dirofilaria immitis on microscopic examinations. The present case suggests that D. immitis can cause periocular infections.

The diagnosis of isolated tuberculosis of the brachioradialis muscle without osseous involvement was made by excision of the lesion and histologic examination in a 72-year-old woman who was in a poor general state. The patient was free of other systemic symptoms or other foci of infection. The wound healed without complication with the aid of antituberculous chemotherapy. Two years later, the patient remains symptom-free with no signs of recurrence.

A 47-year-old man was referred for TEF. He underwent tracheostomy three months ago to maintain prolonged ventilator care. Computed tomography (CT) scan and fiberoptic examination showed bilateral vocal cord palsy with median fixation and about 2 inch sized long segmental tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) tract along the necrotic cricoid and tracheal cartilages. Narrow field total laryngectomy was performed to remove devitalized cartilages and mucosa, and repair TEF. He discharged without complication except mild stenotic change of tracheal fenestration 19 days later.

A 14-year-old castrated male Persian cat presented with epiphora, blepharospasm, brownish ocular discharge, corneal neovascularization, and corneal opacity in the left eye. Medial lower eyelid entropion was diagnosed through an ophthalmic examination. Since the cat was old and suffered from chronic kidney disease, we decided to perform a hyaluronic acid (HA) subdermal filler injection without general anesthesia rather than surgical correction. After topical anesthesia by lidocaine jelly and disinfection, HA filler was injected into the medial lower eyelid under minimal physical restraint. At the last follow-up 139 days later, lower eyelid entropion was not observed and related clinical signs disappeared. Therefore, HA subdermal filler can be an effective intervention for the treatment of entropion in cats.

The alkaline comet assay, employing a single-cell gel electrophoresis(SCGE), is a rapid, simple and sensitive technique for visualizing and measuring DNA damage leading to strand breakage in individual mammalian cells. The protecting effect of pretreatment with vitamin C and cysteine on the DNA damage of gamma ray was investigated in mice splenic lymphocytes. Vitamin C and cysteine were administered orally for five consecutive days before irradiation. Four week old ICR male mice were irradiated wish 3.5Gy of γ-radiation and were sacrificed 3 days later. Spleens were taken for DNA damage examination by Comet assay and the tail moments of DNA single -strand breaks in tole splenic lymphocytes were evaluated. The results show that pretreatment with vitamin C and cysteine were effective in protecting against DNA damage by gamma ray. Administration of antioxidants like vitamin C and cysteine to mice before irradiation was effective in reducing the tail moment of splenic lymphocytes DNA.

A 12-year-old female was referred from a dental clinic due to a radiolucent area under the lower right first and second premolars. The lesion was diagnosed as a simple bone cyst radiographically. However, she complained lasting pain during 10 month follow up. Therefore curettage was performed and it defined as an osteoid osteoma on the histopathologic examination. As the lesion recurred, one year later, enucleation was performed. We report this case to help the diagnosis of osteoid osteoma in mandible.

Sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare and occurs mainly in the upper aerodigestive tract such as the oral cavity, esophagus and vocal cords. It is a unique variant of squamous cell carcinoma. We report the case of a patient with spindle cell squamous cell carcinoma involving the mandible. At initial examination, overlying mucosa of that lesion was normal appearance. One week later, that lesion showed ulcerative and bloody change and rapid growth in size. This case showed unpredictable rapid growth although rapid growth in size was suspected of undergoing malignancy.

This paper aims at the examination on the fallacy of the name of 'Dadaepo-gaeksa'. The results are as follow: The so called 'Dadaepo-gaeksa' was one of the official buildings of Dadaejin, the naval forces in the late period of J osun dynasty. The building was moved to Molundae near the original site in 1970. And two years later, it was designated as a cultural asset. However it's real name is 'Dadaejin-dongheon', because Dadae-jin gaeksa was demolished about the time of the foundation of Dadaepo-elementary school. Otherwise, Dadae-jin donheon was used as a school building from 1904 to 1970. Futhermore, the architectural style of the existing building is different from the general gaeksa's in the period of J osun dynasty. Therefore, the name of Dadaepo-gaeksa needs to change into Dadaejin-gaeksa and to restore as its original style.

The purpose of this investigation was to examine and compare pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers' beliefs about Science-Technology-and Society (STS), particularly beliefs about the nature of science and technology, their interaction within society, and the epistemology of science. Large percentage of pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers were understood to perceive as follows : 1. they regarded the science as 〃Knowledge scheme aiming content'and technology as 'skill for solution of actual problems'. 2. they revealed themselves to perceive tat science/ technology influence our lives through new terms and ideas, that science/ technology is affected by governmental policies and that all the people concerned including scientist and technologist should participate in the course of decision making. 3. they perceived that scientist perform their studies by characteristic abilities and that the studies are affected by their religious viewpoint. Moreover, they were understood to perceive that scientific knowledge are constructed through social interaction. 4. they perceived that scientist discover and develop scientific laws by scientific methods such as verification and certification, and that those scientific laws could be changed later.
