A new non-destructive inspection technique has been developed. One characteristic of the technique is that defects are visualized by laser ray. Magnetic domains and domain walls of a magneto-optical sensor(MO sensor) are varied by the magnetic flux leaked by defects, and the variations are observed by the reflected light of the laser ray. The information of defect can remotely be inspected by this technique in a real time. This paper describes the results estimated on the 2-dimensional surface defects and opposite-side defects in a ferromagnetic material and the natural surface defect in a clutch disk wheel. The light region of a visible image and the magnitude of a reflected light increases as the input current of the magnetizer increases. The natural surface defect, that has not the width of crack's open mouth, can be also visualized like as 2-dimensional artificial defects.

Characterics of carrier-envelope-offset frequency ($f_{ceo}$) of a femtosecond laser stabilized by the direct locking method were investigated using two f-to-2f interferometers. The stability of $f_{ceo}$ was comaparable to that achieved with a conventional PLL method.

The characterization of laser mirrors is important for obtaining proper performance of femtosecond lasers. Characteristics of laser mirrors are usually described in terms of their reflectivity at a certain wavelength. In femtosecond laser applications, however, the dispersion property of the mirror should be considered because the temporal shape of a femtosecond light pulse changes during the reflection at the mirrors. DUPIC (Direct use of spent PWR fuel in CANDU reactors) nuclear fuel is a CANDU fuel fabricated remotely from spent PWR fuel materials in a hot cell. The soundness of the end closure welds of nuclear fuel elements is an important factor for the safety and performance of nuclear fuel. To evaluate the soundness of the end closure welds of DUPIC fuel element, a precise X-ray inspection system is developed using a micro-focus X-ray generator with an image intensifier and a real time camera system. The fuel elements made of Zircaloy-4 and stainless steel by an Nd:YAG laser welding and a TIG welding aye inspected by the developed inspection system. The soundness of the welds of the fuel elements was confirmed by the X-ray inspection process, and the irradiation test of DUPIC fuel elements has been successfully completed at the HANARO research reactor.

The purpose of this paper is to describe experimental results about the butt welding and bead on plate welding of the high power Continuous Wave (CW) Fiber laser for Ultra-low carbon Interstitial Free(IF) steel plate for gear part of car. After being welded of the gear parts by the fiber laser and electron beam Microstructures of melting zone had been mixed acicular, granular bainitic, quasi-polygonal and widmanstatten ferrite because of a radical thermal diffusion after welding, difference of critical volume and grain size. As a result of experiment, when gear parts were welded by the fiber laser and electron beam, the fiber laser welding has been stable properties without internal defects more than the electron beam welding. Therefore it has the very advantages of welding high quality and productivity more than conventional melting method. The optimal welding processing parameters for gear parts were as follows : the laser power and welding speed were 3kWatt, 30mm/sec respectively. At this time heat input was $21.2{\times}10^3J/cm^2$.

With an attempt to enhance the visibility of laser beam, we have investigated a black matrix with scattering particles by ray tracing simulations. As the scattering particle density is increased, the detected power by the receiver is increased, thereby enhancing the visibility. In reality, the visibility is reduced with increasing incident angle (away from the normal incidence) of laser beam, a phenomenon also observed by ray tracing simulations. It is due to the fact that the mean path is increased within a highly absorptive BM layer or a smaller number of rays hit the BM area when the incident angle is high. Embedding a number of scattering particles into BM may bring in crosstalk among pixels. However, it is negligible because scattered rays inside highly absorptive BM are re-scattered due to the high scattering particle density, decreasing the power of scattered rays into the active areas.

Laser plasma was generated by a 1 GW iodine photodissociation laser(λ=1.315${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, E-12.7J) whose output beam was focused on a molybdenum target surface. The experiment was conducted in the vacuum chamber under 10-5Torr and several tens of laser shooting were necessary for sufficient exposure to the PBS resist. A speciman was put directly on the resist and located at a distance of 3cm from the X-ray source. The replicas of a mesh, spider's tread, a red blood cell were obtained by PBS resist and were analyzed by Nomarski and SEM. Two main effects of limitation in resolution, source size and Fresnel diffraction, are mentioned and compared with the experimental result. In this experiment, a resolution better than 1000A could be obtained.
The variations of output energy due to tilt output coupler for different types of pulsed Nd:YAG laser resonators were compared by measuring FWHM (full width at half maximum) which means the width of angle displacement where maximum output energy decreases to half value. We proposed a new configuration of pulsed solid-state laser resonator which had high FWHM for tilting of output coupler and which was little sensitive for tilting of rear optics. We proved that our laser resonator had high alignment stability using ABeD ray matrix method because the ray matrix of such a resonator corresponded to unit matrix. atrix.
Head up display is in increasing demand for advanced devices in the modern luxury vehicles. It helps drivers focus on driving environment on the road. While HUD technology with LED has advanced, the brightness in daylight can be still an issue to be resolved. Laser light source is a possible solution to overcome the brightness problem and optimal optics design is required for the best performance. Sample design of optics is proposed and detail procedure of lens design evaluation is presented in this paper. The results were characterized by using a ray tracing method and qualitative analysis for spot and DEE is also presented. The overall error or image distortion remained in the target range of $25{\mu}m$ and the simulated image demonstrated possible use in the automotive applications.
The electrons injected into a laser wakefield undergo betatron oscillation and give rise to the emission of intense X-ray radiation. To investigate the generation conditions of the X-rays, the relativistic motion of an electron injected in an off-axis position has been simulated with wakefield profiles which are pre-calculated with a two-dimensional particle-in-cell code. The wakefield with a plasma density of $1.78{\times}10^{18}\;cm^{-3}$ is generated by the laser with an intensity of $1.37{\times}10^{18}\;W/cm^2$ and a pulse width of 30 fs. From the calculation of the single particle motion, the characteristics of the betatron radiation are investigated in the time domain. As the transverse injection position increases, the power and the duration time of the radiation increase, but the width of each pulse decreases.
