  • In this paper, we introduced a LIF measurement method and summarized the theoretical side. When an altered wavelength of laser and electric power, lamp applied electric power, we measured the relative density of the metastable state in mercury after observing a laser induced fluorescence signal of 404.8nm and 546.2nm, and confirmed the horizontal distribution of plasma density in the discharge lamp. Due to this generation, the extinction of atoms in a metastable state occurred through collision, ionization, and excitation between plasma particles. The density and distribution of the metastable state depended on the energy and density of plasma particles, intensely This highlights the importance of measuring density distribution in plasma electric discharge mechanism study The results confirmed the resonance phenomenon regarding the energy level of atoms along a wavelength change, and also confirmed that the largest fluorescent signal in 436nm, and that the density of atoms in 546.2nm ($6^3S_1 {\to} 6^3P_2$ ) were larger than 404.8nm ($6^3S_1 {\to} 6^3P_1$). According to the increase of lamp applied electric power, plasma density increased, too. When increased with laser electric power, the LIF signal reached a saturation state in more than 2.6mJ. When partial plasma density distribution along a horizontal axis was measured using the laser induced fluorescence method, the density decreased by recombination away from the center.

  • A mixture which was made from organic gel, glass powder and ceramic powder was masklessly etched for fabrication of barrier rib of PDP(Plasma Display Panel) by focused Ar$^{+}$ laser( λ =514 nm) and Nd:YAG(λ =532, 266 nm) laser irradiation at the atmosphere. The depth of the etched grooves increases with increasing a laser fluence and decreasing a scan speed. Using second harmonic of Nd:YAG laser, the threshold laser fluence was 6.5 mJ/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for the sample of PDP barrier rib softened at 12$0^{\circ}C$. The thickness of 130 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of the sample on the glass was clearly removed without any damage on the glass substrate by fluence of 19.5 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$....

  • Laser Thomson scattering measurements of electrom temperature and density in a neutral loop discharge (NLD) plasma were performed in order to reveal the electron behavior around the neutral loop (NL). The experimental results were examined by using a simulation model that included effects of a three dimensional electromagnetic field with spatial decay of the RF electric field, and the limitation of the spatial extent of the electron motion and collision effect. From the experiments and modeling of the electron behavior, it was found that NLD plasma posses the electron temeprature $T_{e}$ and density ne peaks around the NL is essential for the formation of plasma. Also, the optimum condition of plasma production could be simply estimated by the calculation of $U_{av}$ and $F_{0}$././.

  • In this paper, design feature and operation characteristics of compact Ruby laser for plasma diagonostics are described. A linear Xe flashlamp and a single elliptical cavity are adopted as optical pumping system. With charging energy of 484J, the maximum output energy of 170mJ, laser pulse width $110{\mu}s$, and slope efficiency 0.09% were obtained. If Q-switch system is added to this laser, we suppose this laser will be quite enough for diagonizing plasma.

  • We introduce Helicon discharge plasma source and Laser Thomson scattering system recently finished an installation in KRISS. Laser Thomson scattering method is promising for diagnostics in Helicon plasma because a measurement by electrical probe typically used has significant errors due to the gyromotion of electrons induced by high magnetic field. However, we found that LTS is affected by magnetic field so that we applied the normalization method for processing data and the results show a clear Maxwellian distribution at various conditions of magnetic field and RF power at low energy part without distortion.

  • Fluctuation of light intensity from the keyhole becomes more significant in full penetration welding than partial penetration welding, since the plasma produced in the keyhole can escape from the rear side of the keyhole. The plasma optical radiation emitted during Nd:YAG laser welding of S45C steel samples has been detected with a Photodiode and analyzed under different process conditions. As the results, the BOP was performed for welding, behavior of plasma, spatter or plume was monitored to determine the reference signal. Then, random combination was made for comparison with the reference signal, which aimed at verifying reliability of the welding monitoring system that this study intended to develop.

  • The laser-induced plasma affects greatly on the results of welding process. moreover selective evaporation loss of alloying elements leads to change in chemical composition of weld metal as well as the mechanical properties of welded joint. this study was undertaken to obtain a fundamental knowledge of pulsed laser welding phenomena especially evaporation mechanism of different aluminum alloys. The intensities of molecular spectra of AlO and MgO were different each other depeding on the power density of a laser beam Under the low power density condition the MgO band spectrum was predominant in intensity while the AlO spectra became much stronger with an increase in the power density. These behaviors have been attributed to the difference in evaporation phenomena of Al and Mg metals with different boiling points and latent heats of vaporization. The time-averaged plasma temperature and electron number density were determined by spectroscopic methods and consequently the obtained temperature was $3,280{\pm}150K$ and the electron number density was $1.85{\times}10^{19}\;l/m^3$.

  • A concept in which laser-sustained plasmas (LSPs) are combined with inductively coupled plasmas (ICPs) is proposed. The concept is aiming at extensions of operative conditions of a CW laser thruster due to the fact that the ICP has some characteristics which are in contrast to those of LSPs. An estimation confirmed that the concept would effectively work. And a fundamental experiment was conducted. The results showed that the radio frequency magnetic field induced by a alternate current of 13.56 MHz coupled inductively with LSPs, resulting in the enlargement of the plasma region and the attainment of the enthalpy. It is expected that some improvements will enable to transfer the RF power to the work gas more effectively and to demonstrate the synergy effect between the LSPs and the ICPs.
