  • Flexible tactile sensors can provide valuable feedback to intelligent robots regarding the environment around them. This is especially important when robots such as, service robots share a workspace with humans. This paper presents a contact force measurement algorithm of a flexible tactile sensor. This sensor is manufactured by a direct-writing technique, which is one 3D printing method, using multi-walled carbon nano-tubes. An analog signal processing circuit has been designed and implemented to reduce noise contained in the sensor output. In addition, a digital version of the Butterworth filter was implemented by software running on a microcontroller. Through various experiments, characteristics of the sensor system have been identified. Based on three traits, an algorithm to detect the contact and measure the contact force has been developed. The entire system showed a promising prospect to detect the contact over a large and curved area.

  • Recently, the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country due to a high economic growth, require optimization, usage and the expansion of underground space. Therefore the consturction of large and deep basements takes place in braced excavated area where their earth retaining structures cause many problems such as settlement and damages of nearby buildings and underground utilities. this study deals with the influence distance of settlement and the amount for settlement based on the measurement which were obtained at five excavation construction sites. Maximum ground surface settlement, (0.28∼0.3)(%)H utilizing depth, is similar to the measurement and the value by Clough's method. It was found that the settlement and the influence distance of settlement calculated by Clough's method were rational.

  • Saemankeum is well known for its high speed wind, and it is known that the blueprint of a future city around Saemankeum, including new industrial complex, has been planned. As a result, large-scale offshore wind farm, on the basis of the measurement of wind resource for a long time, can be considered, so that generated electricity can be used to meet the energy demand near the wind farm. Wind speed in Kokunsando of Saemankeum is measured and analyzed with its statistical distribution and wind directions. The probability of wind power resource over Kokunsando of Saemangeum is reviewed with the measured data in one island of Kokunsando. According to measured data, the shape and scale factor of Weibull distribution of wind speed are obtained, and then power density is analyzed as well. Through this study, it is clear that the Saemangeum area has a fluent and abundant wind power source to develop the wind farm in Korea.

  • Characteristics of anbient at Korean, Cheju Island have been studied during the intensive field study period on March 11 .sim. 17, 1994 in collaboration with other research organizations from Korea and abroad. The particle size distribution was measured using an Electrical Aerosol Analyzer(EAA) and an Optical particle Counter(OPC). Fine particles(PM1 and PM3) have been collected by filter pack samplers and their ionic compositions have been analyzed. sampling errors inherent to the filter pack sampling method are discussed and the method to analyze those errors are presented. The rine mass concentrations of this study show very similar mass concentrations when Seoul is clear. This is somewhat surprising result, because the most of researchers believe that Kosan is one of the cleanest area in Korea. Bimodal volume size distributions with peak values around 0.1 .sim. 0.2.mu.m and 3.mu.m in particle dimeter were observed for most of the measurement period, particle mass loadings and ionic composition data show a large fraction of particles are from non-sea salt origins. Estimation of water content and acidity of particles based on measurement by a gas/particle equilibrium model, SCAPE, reveals that the pH values of particles are comparable to or lower than those estimated based on measurements in Los Angeles, U.S.A. during the SCAQS study. These findings with the meteorological conditions during the study period suggest that the particles collected during the period have originated from outside Cheju Island.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe 3-Dimensional technique to obtain spatial information automatically using PhotoModeler Pro. PhotoModeler Pro is excellent software with the three-dimensional measurement function used by a personal computer using Windows operating system However, it is not sufficient to carry out the automatic matching work with two stereo images. This is very large neck as a 3-D measurement software. In this study, the automatic stereo matching work using the self-making program and DDE interface within PhotoModeler Pro was tried. The experiment field is the hillside and stair zone of Tateyama region, Nagasaki City. The results of automatic stereo matching work were very good with $100\%$ hitting ratio of target.

  • To guarantee more exact maximum power of solar cell module, it is absolutely required to have performance characteristics of various solar cells. Today, there are many types of solar simulator for large area measurement. But it is very opaque how to select the best one for various solar cell module like crystalline silicon solar cell, high efficiency solar cell, amorphous silicon thin film solar cell, CdTe and CIGS solar cell module. So, in this paper 4 types of photovoltaic module were selected to compare the electrical characteristics by changing light pulse duration time and voltage scan direction. Light pulse duration time was varied from 10msec to 800msec. And two types of voltage scan directions, Voc->Isc and Isc->Voc were selected. From this results, optimum measuring condition was suggested and electrical variation was analysed for each types of solar cell module. The detail description is specified as the following paper.

  • Today, rolling stock has become a fast and convenient mode of transportation and has witnessed increased demand. But the speed improvement has resulted in increased aerodynamic noise and therefore residential districts near the railroad tracks are exposed to ever increasing noise level. A study on methodologies for measuring and appraising rolling stock's environmental noise has therefore become an important area of endeavor. In the case of the environmental noise, there are no changes in tone so prediction can be made by reducing areas around the railway. The present study explores estimation of the noise around the railway using scale model, and the source of the noise has been investigated as well. The scale model of rolling stock will have to be able to measure high frequency noise and it is required to be generated in a short amount of time. Since popping a balloon or firing a gun fits this requirement the present study analyzed the characteristics of these two different noise sources. Measurement was made in a large vacant lot and the reflection due to the ground was also examined. The method proposed here can be used in the future for predicting the environmental noise of railway vehicles.

  • The Integration technique of combining the measurement method with the fine precision of the sensor collecting the satellite-based information to determine the displacement space is available to a variety of diagnostic information. The measurement method by a GNSS with the sensors is needed since there will always be occasional occurrence of natural disasters caused by various environmental factors and the surroundings. Such attempts carried out nationally by distributed torsional displacement of the terrain and facilities. The combination of the various positioning analysis of mm-class for the facility of main area observed is required constantly in real time information of the USN/IoT Smart sensors and should be able to utilize such information as a precisely fine positioning information for the precisely fine displacement of the semi-permanent main facilities. In this study, for the installation of the receiving system, the USN/IoT base line positioning are easily accessible for the target bridges. Transmitting hourly from the received data is also executed in real time using the wireless Wi-Fi/Bluetooth bridges and related facilities to automatically process a fine position displacement. The results obtained from this method can be analyzed by real-time monitoring for a large structure or facilities for disaster prevention.

  • A new methodology to analyze the nuclear material accountability for pyroprocessing system is developed. The $Pu-to-^{244}Cm$ ratio quantification is one of the methods for Pu accountancy in pyroprocessing. However, an uncertainty in the $Pu-to-^{244}Cm$ ratio due to the non-uniform composition in used fuel assemblies can affect the accountancy of Pu. A random variable, LOPu, is developed to analyze the probability of detection for Pu diversion of hypothetical scenarios at a pyroprocessing facility considering the uncertainty in $Pu-to-^{244}Cm$ ratio estimation. The analysis is carried out by the hypothesis testing and the event tree method. The probability of detection for diversion of 8 kg Pu is found to be less than 95% if a large size granule consisting of small size particles gets sampled for measurements. To increase the probability of detection more than 95%, first, a new Material Balance Area (MBA) structure consisting of more number of Key Measurement Points (KMPs) is designed. This multiple KMP-measurement for the MBA shows the probability of detection for 8 kg Pu diversion is greater than 96%. Increasing the granule sample number from one to ten also shows the probability of detection is greater than 95% in the most ranges for granule and powder sizes.

  • The slope design of an open-pit mine must ensure slope stability and economic feasibility. The overall slope angle of the pit is therefore the main factor of concern because of limited support or reinforcement options available in such a setting. This study examines the optimal measurement system for monitoring the behavior of the slope in an open-pit mine using displacement measurement, data analysis, and numerical simulations for a coal mine at Pasir, Indonesia. The area of slope to be managed is extensive and the maximum displacement, as calculated by numerical analysis, is about 3,000 mm. The displacement data, measured by inclinometer and GPS, were analyzed, and the applicability of SSR (slope stability radar) was reviewed in comparison with other monitoring systems.
