  • The change detection of XML documents is a major research area. However, though XML becomes a file format for Hangul documents, research on change detection of Hangul documents based on the characteristics of Hangul documents is rather scarce. Since format data in Hangul documents are very large, which is different from ordinary XML documents, it is not proper to apply general XML change detection algorithms such as X-treeDiff+ to Hangul documents without any change. In this paper, we propose new contents-based matching algorithm and implement it in X-treeDiff+. The result of our testing shows better performance for most documents in editing process.

  • As XML emerging as the Internet electronic document language standard of the next generation, the number of XML documents which contain vast amount of Information is increasing substantially through the transformation of existing documents to XML documents or the appearance of new XML documents. Consequently, XML document retrieval system becomes extremely essential for searching through a large quantity of XML documents that are storied in and managed by DBMS. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of BADA-IV/XML query processor that supports content-based, structure-based and attribute-based retrieval. We design XML query language based upon XQL (XML Query Language) of W3C and tightly-coupled with OQL (a query language for object-oriented database). XML document is stored and maintained in BADA-IV, which is an object-oriented database management system developed by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) The storage data model is based on DOM (Document Object Model), therefore the retrieval of XML documents is executed basically using DOM tree traversal. We improve the search performance using Node ID which represents node's hierarchy information in an XML document. Assuming that DOW tree is a complete k-ary tree, we show that Node ID technique is superior to DOM tree traversal from the viewpoint of node fetch counts.

  • XML is increasingly important in data exchange and information management. A large amount of efforts have been spent in developing efficient techniques for accessing, querying, and storing XML documents. In this paper, we propose a new method to cluster XML documents efficiently. A bit vector which represents a XML document is proposed to cluster the XML documents. The similarity between two XML documents is measured by a bit-wise AND operation between two corresponding bit vectors. The experiment shows that the clusters are formed well and efficiently when a bit vector is used for the feature of a XML document.

  • As the research work about XML based on the development of Internet and according to the information exchange standard is being carried out, the need of discovering new methods to store XML documents and manage them efficiently according to the frequency of large-capacity XML documents increases. Consequently, as a kind of back-end database system, XML storage systems such as RDBMS, OODBMS and Native XML DBMS etc. are coming forth in order to save XML documents. It is an urgent task to make comparisons among usage expense, function comparison storage, inquiry, and manage dimension for each DBMS. This paper makes an analysis and comparison of DTD-independent XML document access methods in RDBMS, OODBMS and Native XML DBMS for XML storage and management. After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of each access method and comparing the function of typical commerce DBMS such as Oracle 8i, eXcelon and Tamino for finding the possibility of military applications, an another appropriate method to save XML documents is proposed as to find an implementation approach to save structural XML documents.

  • Recently, as the Importance of the management on internet documents has highly increased, the research of an XML repository system has been actively made to store, retrieve and manage large XML documents. The version management for XML documents is required in the XML applications such as patent documents, software design and system manual that the modified documents have to be managed. In this paper, we propose a data model based on a fragmentation model that supports document versioning. We also design and implement an XML repository system supporting document versioning. It is shown through Performance evaluation that our system outperforms the existing repository system.

  • XML is increasingly important in data exchange and information management. A large amount of efforts have been spent in developing efficient techniques for accessing, querying, and storing XML documents. In this paper, we propose a new method to cluster XML documents efficiently. A new prepresentative path called a virtul path which can represent both the structure and the contents of a XML document is proposed for the feature of a XML document. A method to apply the well known hierarchical clustering techniques to the representative paths to cluster XML documents is also proposed. The experiment shows that the true clusters are formed in a compact shape when a virtual path is used for the feature of a XML document.

  • As the Internet is growing, the use of XML which is a standard of semi-structured document is increasing. Therefore, there are on going works about integration and retrieval of XML documents. However, the basis of efficient integration and retrieval of documents is to cluster XML documents with similar structure. The conventional XML clustering approaches use the hierarchical clustering algorithm that produces the demanded number of clusters through repeated merge, but it have some problems that it is difficult to compute the similarity between XML documents and it costs much time to compare similarity repeatedly. In order to address this problem, we use clustering algorithm for transactional data that is scale for large size of data. In this paper we use common structures from XML documents that don't have DTD or schema. In order to use common structures of XML document, we extract representative structures by decomposing the structure from a tree model expressing the XML document, and we perform clustering with the extracted structure. Besides, we show efficiency of proposed method by comparing and analyzing with the previous method.

  • XML is increasingly important in data exchange and information management. Starting point for retrieving the structure and integrating the documents efficiently is clustering the documents that have similar structure. The reason is that we can retrieve the documents more flexible and faster than the method treating the whole documents that have different structure. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the similar structure-based incremental clustering method useful for retrieving the structure of XML documents and integrating them. As a novel method, we use a clustering algorithm for transactional data that facilitates the large number of data, which is quite different from the existing methods that measure the similarity between documents, using vector. We first extract the representative structures of XML documents using sequential pattern algorithm, and then we perform the similar structure based document clustering, assuming that the document as a transaction, the representative structure of the document as the items of the transaction. In addition, we define the cluster cohesion and inter-cluster similarity, and analyze the efficiency of the Proposed method through comparing with the existing method by experiments.

  • XML has the characteristics of self-describing and uses DTD or XML schema in order to constraint its structure. Even though the XML schema is only at the stage of recommendation yet, it will be prevalently used because DTD is not itself XML and has the limitation on the expression power. The structure defined by the XML schema as well as the data of the XML documents can vary due to complex reasons. Those reasons are errors in the XML schema design, new requirements due to new applications, etc. Thus, we propose XML schema evolution operators that are extracted from the analysis of the XML schema updates. These schema evolution operators enable the XML schema updates that would have been impossible without supporting tools if there are a large number of XML documents complying the U schema. In addition, these operators includes the function of automatically finding the update place in the XML documents which are registered to the XSE system, and maintaining the XML documents valid to the XML schema rather than merely well-formed. This paper is the first attempt to update XML schemas of the XML documents and provides the comprehensive set of schema updating operations. Our work is necessary for the XML application development and maintenance in that it helps to update the structure of the XML documents as well as the data in the easy and precise manner.

  • Recently, WWW(World Wide Web) has become a source of a large amount of information, and is now recognized not only as an information-sharing tool, but also as an information repository. Currently, the majority of documents on the web were created using HTML(Hypertext Markup Language). Although HTML is simple and easy to learn, its inherent lack of describing document structure makes it difficult to retrieve information effectively. One possible solution would be to convert such HTML documents into XML (extensible Markup Language) documents. This is a standard markup language for exchanging data on the web. It can describe a document structure freely by defining its own DTD (Document Type Definition). This makes it possible to integrate, store, and retrieve data on the web efficiently In this paper, we will propose a converter that automatically converts HTML documents with similar pattern into XML documents by analyzing the document structure and recognizing its path information.
