Blast Damage Assessment to a Modern Steel Structures

  • The terrorist attack of September $11^{th}$ 2001 has enforced a new examination of the response of modern steel structures, such as those found in large warehouses, auditoriums and airport terminals, to terrorist bomb attack. The effort described in this paper assesses the potential damage to such a newly designed structure form a medium-size car bomb. The structure is mostly composed of a lightweight complex beam structure with large windows and skylights piercing through a corrugated roof. The structural response to the terrorist attack requires the modelling of various physics phenomena including bomb detonation, blast wave propagation, reflections, and refractions and resulting blast impact on the structure. Hence, a fluid/structure coupled methodology is used to perform the assessment.

A Feasibility Study of Seismic Isolation for Wolsong Reactor Building

  • To predict effects of seismic isolation, seismic isolation bearings were applied to the Wolsong reactor building and the analytical study was performed. For this study, the Wolsong reactor building was modeled using lumped masses and beam elements. Design Basis Earthquake with a ground acceleration of 0.2g was applied. And then, the behavior of the isolated structure was compared with that of the unisolated structure. The horizontal response acceleration at the top of the unisolated reactor building was 0.99g, while that of the isolated one was 0.14g(15% damping) and the acceleration response along the height of the structure was constant. The maximum displacement of the unisolated structure was 8.3mm, while that of the isolated structure was 66mm. The application of isolation bearings on the reactor building reduces seismic loads but increases the displacement of the structure on a large scale. Therefore, when using isolation bearings, the reactor building and BOP should be located on a common mat to cover the large displcement.

Seven new species of genus Dysidea (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Dysideidae) from Korea

  • Seven new species of genus Dysidea (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Dysideidae) are described from Jejudo Island and Geomundo Island, Korea. These new species are compared with other reported species in fibre structure and arrangement, and cored detritus. Dysidea reticulum n. sp. is similar to D. glavea in skeletal structure but differ in sponge shape. Dysidea simplex n. sp. is close to D. glavea with loosely arranged skeletal structure but fibres in this new species are not cored with large sands. Dysidea pyeongdaensis n. sp. is characterized by tube-like surface oscules open toward the sandy bottom. Dysidea capillus n. sp. is similar to D. dokdoensis in skeletal structure, but differs in long surface conules. Dysidea mukriensis n. sp. is close to D. corallina in distinct dense surface conules, but differs in sponge shape and skeletal structure. Dysidea membrana n. sp. is similar to D. sabulum in primary fibres cored with numerous large sands, but differs in sponge surface conules and secondary fibres. Dysidea chujaensis n. sp. is unique in the sponge shape and skeletal structure.

방진재를 이용한 대형구조물의 철도 진동에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Railway Vibration Isolation of a Large Structure using Isolation Materials)

  • The paper deals with the vibration isolation of a large structure using an experimental technology. In the case of vibration isolation for the vicinity of a subway or a railroad station, most of vibration isolation techniques using isolation materials with high isolation efficiency only, have been applied. Therefore, the quantitative evaluation and design technologies are required for a vibration isolation of large structures. In this study, firstly, vibration characteristics due to train or subway are analyzed. Secondly, the performance of existing vibration isolation materials such as precision isolation material, elastomer is estimated through the experiments. Thirdly, the performance of a tire isolation material and its frame is tested and evaluated. Finally, it is shown that tire isolation materials can be applied to the vibration isolation or vibration reduction of large structures.

  • 스월 연소기의 비반응 난류 유동특성을 파악하기 위하여 3차원 Large Eddy Simulation(LES)을 수행하였다. 연소기는 GEAE LM6000 연소기를 이용하였으며, 실제 실험 결과에 따른 인젝터 유입 형상을 적용하였다. 주 흐름 부분에서 강한 vortex breakdown, 중심 재순환영역, 모서리 재순환영역, 축방향으로 전진하는 스월링 형상, 주기적으로 나타나는 난류 구조를 관찰하였다. 계산된 결과는 실제 실험결과와 선행연구자들의 LES 계산결과와 비교하여 잘 맞음을 확인하였다.

드릴쉽의 유탄성 응답해석 (A Hydroelastic Response Analysis of Drillships in Waves)

  • To design very large ships, such as very large drillships, we have to estimate the hydroelastic responses of the very large ships in waves. A numerical procedure is described for estimating the hydroelastic responses of very large ships advancing with slow speed in waves. The developed numerical approach is based on a combination of the three-dimensional source distribution method and the finite element method, including fluid-structure interaction by regarding a very large ship as many hull elements connected with elastic beam elements. Numerical results are compared with experimental and numerical ones obtained in the literature. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach.

Analysis of Blood Flow Interacted with Leaflets in MHV in View of Fluid-Structure Interaction

  • Interaction of blood flow and leaflet behavior in a bileaflet mechanical heart valve was investigated using computational analysis. Blood flows of a Newtonian fluid and a non-Newtonian fluid with Carreau model were modeled as pulsatile, laminar, and incompressible. A finite volume computational fluid dynamics code and a finite element structure dynamics code were used concurrently to solve the flow and structure equations, respectively, where the two equations were strongly coupled. Physiologic ventricular and aortic pressure waveforms were used as flow boundary conditions. Flow fields, leaflet behaviors, and shear stresses with time were obtained for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid cases. At the fully opened phase three jets through the leaflets were found and large vortices were present in the sinus area. At the very final stage of the closing phase, the angular velocity of the leaflet was enormously large. Large shear stress was found on leaflet tips and in the orifice region between two leaflets at the final stage of closing phase. This method using fluid-structure interaction turned out to be a useful tool to analyze the different designs of existing and future bileaflet valves.

  • 본 논문에서는 시분할-파장분할 방식이 혼합된 라우팅 구조를 가지는 대용량 광ATM 스위치 구조를 제안하였다. 제안된 구조는 셀의 경로배정 과정에서 겪게되는 광 파워의 손실 및 시스템 구성시 요구되는 하드웨어를 줄일 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 수동소자를 사용함으로써 전기적 제어부분의 복합성을 피할 수 있다. 또한 제안된 스위치는 확장이 용이하도록 설계되어졌기 때문에 처리용량에 있어서 미래의 대욜양 광 교환 시스템에 적합한 구조라고 할 수 있다.

위상 최적화 방법에 의해 설계된 대구경 구조물 (The Large Optical Structure Designed by Topology Optimization Methodology)

  • 최근, 광학기계시스템에 새로운 구조 모델은 저비용, 고성능 및 품질의 개념설계에서 출발해야 할 필요성이 있다. 이런 관점에서, 기계적 구조의 개념설계와 연관된 구조적-위상적 형상은 구조적 강성과 감량과 같은 시스템 성능에 큰 영향을 끼친다. 본 연구에서는, 최적설계방법이 대구경 구조물의 설계단계에 제시되었다. 먼저, 위상 최적화법을 이용하여 구조물의 최적 배열과 보강방안을 얻었고, 사이즈 최적화와 다분야 최적기법을 사용한 세부 설계를 수행하였다. 그 일례로, 이 방법들을 대구경 구조물 설계에 적용하였다.

학교체육관의 구조계획을 위한 구조시스템 구성요소의 변화와 건축특성의 영향분석 (An Analysis on the Relationship of Architectural Features and Composition Elements for Structure Planning in School Gymnasium)

  • School gymnasium is a multi-purpose large space building for various events and physical education activities, and is a facility that requires an approach to the desirable structural design, besides mechanical problems of structure against loads. For the integrated structure design concerning the architectural features, the major considerations of gymnasium planning that are the internal and external shape of the gymnasium, the space scale with structure members, the structural efficiency by members weight reduction and openness of the gymnasium space will have to take into account in the structural planning. From this point of view, the several cases of the school gymnasium were investigated and the parametric analyses were performed to the models using the various structural system. The parameters were the composition elements of structure system that are profile of structure, rigidity of member, connection and anchorage and stability. At the result, It was presented that the profile of structure member was the most influential factor to structural efficiency and the effect of the form and space of gymnasium. Also the design informations of structure design having the various feature of form and space were presented for the initial gymnasium planning.
