  • The study is designed to understand on the farmer's life in Yanbian, China. The major findings are: 1) The people in farmhouse use wood as a fuel for cooking and the method of cooking is traditional style using their iron pots. The floor heating of the house and cooking food can be carried out simultaneously. Most of the farmer use pump system. 2) Korean traditional foods should be inherited and they usually eat rice. Kimchi, Soy-sauce, and Hot-pepper paste are mostly made at home. 3) Housewives do actively participate in income management. Results indicated that overall Korean immigrants in China maintain their ethnic identity, ethnic language and culture.

  • Synchronization Markup Language (SyncML) is a specification of a common data synchronization framework for synchronizing data on networked devices. SyncML is designed for use between mobile devices that are intermittently connected to a network and network services that are continuously available on the network. We have designed and developed a data synchronization system based on the SyncML protocol and evaluated the throughput of the system using the stochastic Petri nets package (SPNP) and analyzed the relationship between the arrival rate and the system resources. Using this model, we evaluate various performance measures in different situations, and we estimate the relationship between the arrival rate and the system resources. From the results, we can estimate the optimal amount of resources due to the arrival rate before deploying the developed system.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the preparation of medical institutions for medical tourism and its effects. The sample of this study were 99 case which were selected from Korea Health Industry Development Institute list. Data were collected through the mail questionnaire survey from Sept. 15 to Oct. 30 in 2010. The collected data were analyzed using Chisquare test, t-test. The main findings of study are as follows: Using Chisquare test, we found statistically significant differences in resources prepared for medical tourism between hospitals and clinics. In general, hospitals were well prepared in human resources(e.g., proportion of employees with foreign language capability) and physical resources(e.g., helpdesk, brochures) compared to clinics.

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in zero-shot cross-lingual transfer, which leverages cross-lingual language models (CLLMs) to perform downstream tasks that are not trained in a specific language. In this paper, we point out the limitations of the data-centric aspect of quality estimation (QE), and perform zero-shot cross-lingual transfer even in environments where it is difficult to construct QE data. Few studies have dealt with zero-shots in QE, and after fine-tuning the English-German QE dataset, we perform zero-shot transfer leveraging CLLMs. We conduct comparative analysis between various CLLMs. We also perform zero-shot transfer on language pairs with different sized resources and analyze results based on the linguistic characteristics of each language. Experimental results showed the highest performance in multilingual BART and multillingual BERT, and we induced QE to be performed even when QE learning for a specific language pair was not performed at all.

  • This study investigated characteristics of H.T.P test responses according to home environment variables. The subjects were 183 children in the fifth grade at an elementary school in Taejon. SAS was utilized in order to analyze data using x2 technique. The result of the study were as follows. The more home environment stimuli the children were provided by parents, the more stable in emotion they were. Especially four out of six home environment variables were found significant in helping children become emotionally stable, confident, well-adjusted, and high in achievement. These four variables were language stimulus, social maturity educational resources, and housing environment. It is concluded that children used to be provided with good home environment including language stimulus, social maturity, educational resource, housing environment, and plenty of family activities in order to become emotionally stable, confident, high in achievement, and adjustment.

  • The search for relevant and actionable information is a key to achieving clinical and research goals in biomedicine. Biomedical information exists in different forms: as text and illustrations in journal articles and other documents, in images stored in databases, and as patients' cases in electronic health records. This paper presents ways to move beyond conventional text-based searching of these resources, by combining text and visual features in search queries and document representation. A combination of techniques and tools from the fields of natural language processing, information retrieval, and content-based image retrieval allows the development of building blocks for advanced information services. Such services enable searching by textual as well as visual queries, and retrieving documents enriched by relevant images, charts, and other illustrations from the journal literature, patient records and image databases.

  • Request for network becomes complicated gradually and network traffic is increasing, To overcome this situation, the structure of network node should be changed to accept new service quickly and economically by executing program code in node itself. Active Network's research can use net resources more properly because of executing program within node itself. In this paper, we design a programming language, namely ASL, for Active Sensor to describe function and behavior of active sensor. We also design and implement the interpreter for proposed ASL.

  • The network encironment includes a number of autonomous agents which are widely distributed, have different platforms, and change very dynamically. The information system operated on this environment must solve some basic problems; restrictive client-server models, heterogeneous systems, and intellignet agents. We are using KQML for knowledge management. Java language provides solutions against a strong server dependency and a heterogenous troubles. We introduce KQML as an agent communication language and JATLite as a java agent template. these increase an efficiency of communication on network and enable us to use resources distributed in world wide web. Also, we describe a new agent system architecture and implement it through an example scenario

  • This article reports an attempt to perform a similarity analysis on a collection of 25 culinary manuscripts in Chosun periods using a set of quantitative text analysis methods. Historical culinary texts are valuable resources for linguistic, historic, and cultural studies. We consider the similarity of two texts as the distributional similarities of the functional components of the texts. In the case of culinary texts, text elements such as food names, cooking methods, and ingredients are regarded as functional components. We derive the similarity information from the distributional characteristics of the two key functional components, cooking methods and ingredients. The results are also quantified and visualized to achieve a better understanding of the properties of the individual texts and the collection of the texts as a whole.
