  • The quality of satellite imagery should be improved and stabilized to satisfy numerous users. The radiometric characteristics of an optical sensor can be a measure of data quality. In this study, a band aggregation technique and spectral response function of hyperspectral images are used to simulate multispectral images. EO-1 Hyperion and Landsat-8 OLI images acquired with about 30 minutes difference in overpass time were exploited to evaluate radiometric coefficients of OLI. Radiance values of the OLI and the simulated OLI were compared over three subsets covered by different land types. As a result, the index of agreement shows over 0.99 for all VNIR bands although there are errors caused by space/time and sensors.

  • The land use/cover information, which is periodically obtained from satellite imagery, can be effectively applied to change detection in rapidly changing urban areas. Also it can be used not only as base maps for spatial database in urban information system but as decision-making data for desired urban planning and development direction. In this study, we carried out both unsupervised and supervised classification on land use from Landsat TM and JERS-1 OPS data, which were collected respectively in 1991 and 1997, covering Kumi City and then detected land use changes.

  • In this study, We analyzed change of sea surface temperature due to cooling water around nuclear power station. Study area is around of Uljin nuclear power station, which is relatively large power station. There are many problems in monitering environmental change around of nuclear power station, because area is relatively large. We used Landsat 5, 7 Imagery which are useful in temperature analysis and can be easily obtained. After we georeferenced Landsat Imagery, radiance and sea surface temperature were calculated. As a result, As we compared sea surface temperature of surrounding area of nuclear power station with same area located 3 km east, there are $2.049^{\circ}C$ temperature difference.

  • The Landsat Program is the longest running enterprise for acquisition of imagery of the Earth from space. The first Landsat satellite was launched in 1972 and the most recent, Landsat 7, was launched on April 15, 1999. The Landsat satellites have acquired millions of images. The Landsat 7 receiving station is installed at more than 25 sites and will be installed in Korea. This paper will address the work being carried out for the development of image receiving and processing system for the Landsat 7 image data, which will be used at ground station of Landsat 7 in Korea.

  • In-situ water quality sampling is used for accurate water quality assessment. However, in-situ water quality sampling offers limited samples and requires much time and intensive labors. Remote sensing approach has recently applied for water quality assessment. It has shown the advantage of offering a synoptic view but also more efficient and economical. In this study, we utilized Landsat Imagery to estimate the water quality of the Tamsui River basin, considered as one of the most important rivers located in the north of Taiwan. In order to monitor water quality of Tamsui River basin, a linear regression relation between the value of spectral radiance and four water quality parameters are investigated with 38 water sampling stations. Through the regression model, we could estimate river pollution index (RPI) from the predicted value of four water quality parameters. By using RPI, we can examine the pollution level of Tamsui River. The accuracy of RPI conversion of this study ranged from 32.2% to 68.2%.

  • The coastal provinces of South China have been uniquely shaped by various tectonic events. During the midlate Mesozoic tectono-thermal event, the oblique subduction of the Paleo Kula-Pacific plate beneath the Eurasian plate has created a complicated tectonic setting for the whole region. However, the mechanism of this event is not completely understood. In this paper, we discuss the advantages of using LANDSAT TM satellite imagery over a small part of the region - the Mirs Bay Basin which is largely covered by dense vegetation and where limited outcrops is seen. The use of satellite imagery complements field mapping and the result shows a prominent sinistral offset along the eastern margin of the Mirs Bay Basin, which was not previously recognized on the ground.

  • Recently, developed countries have continuously been trying to recognize many issues about heat island in urban area and to make up countermeasures for them. This research is designed to extract change of land cover in the area under condition of land development with satellite images and to analyze its effect on the heat change in there. Heat change upon change of land cover in daejeon was analyzed with the four Landsat satellite images taken in April 1985, August 1994, May 2001, and May 2009. In order to measure the temperature on the surface in the city, the land surface temperature was produced with Landsat TM Band 6. Heat change is to detected with it. As a result, The urban area has been increased up to 23.59 percent. On the other hand, the forest area has been decreased up to 27.91%. Due to the urbanization, the temperature on the surface in urban center was higher than surrounding area. In that case, the temperature of urban center area was higher 2.4 to $5.7^{\circ}C$ compared with the forest area.

  • Earth observation satellite imagery having medium-resolution can provide the useful information very rapidly and cheaply. The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility for monitoring rice growth and yield using medium resolution satellite imagery at Seosan AB reclaimed area, Chung-nam province. Using the LANDSAT imagery at booting stage ($29^{th}$ July 2004), $NDVI_R$ had the most significant linear relationships with rice yield of Seosan AB reclaimed area with the correlation coefficient (r) as 0.68. Therefore, this relationship was established as rice yield equation as function of $NDVI_R$, where excluding the 10 small area having low number of pixel, the determination coefficient ($R^2$) of the linear regression between NDVIred and milled rice yield was improved to 0.66. In addition, raster masking method, which was easier and faster even if a little unaccurate than preexisting method, was established for extracting information paddy field zone. Adaptability of rice yield equation function of $NDVI_R$ on year and region was investigated using rice yield and $NDVI_R$ values, which were extracted with raster masking method, from 7 counties or cities, Kyeong-ki province in 2005. Relationship between observed and calculated rice yield showed 1:1 line indicating that the adaptability was admitted.

  • Landsat images were globally used to monitoring the Earth's. But it is not positively applied to a field of environment such as coastal environment, heat island effect and drought condition and so on. Until recently, Information about a ecology natural environment came to do by direct investigation. But Information about a ecology·natural environment of wide area were quickly getting possible with the progress of remote sensing technique. Specially, the up-to-date characteristic information about an ecology·natural environment as the basic intelligence for a country development activity are very important. So, it applies the satellite images that the periodic observation of data is possible. In this study, We planned the function which is possible helping the renewal of an ecology·natural environmental information using Landsat imagery. Also planned the DB suitable for these purpose. For application of thermal infrared band images we developed the function that extracts an isothermal line. It used the thermal infrared band images and it grasped a temperature distribution. The result is useful in analysis of the city heat island effectiveness.

  • The purpose of this study is focused on the development of compound classification process by mixing multitemporal data and annexing a specific image enhancement technique with a specific image classification algorithm, to gain more accurate land information from satellite imagery. That is, this study suggests the classification process using canonical correlation classification technique after principal component analysis for the mixed multitemporal data. The result of this proposed classification process is compared with the canonical correlation classification result of one date images, multitemporal imagery and a mixed image after principal component analysis for one date images. The satellite images which are used are the Landsat 5 TM images acquired on July 26, 1994 and September 1, 1996. Ground truth data for accuracy assessment is obtained from topographic map and aerial photograph, and all of the study area is used for accuracy assessment. The proposed compound classification process showed superior efficiency to appling canonical correlation classification technique for only one date image in classification accuracy by 8.2%. Especially, it was valid in classifying mixed urban area correctly. Conclusively, to improve the classification accuracy when extracting land cover information using Landsat TM image, appling canonical correlation classification technique after principal component analysis for multitemporal imagery is very useful.
