As the population of olds increases, the number of old people with capability increases, and they actively participate to social works with interests in healthy life and leisures. Therefore the demand rises to expand social facilities to support their spare time, while there are limitation, such as land, financial state, to build such facilities. In case of Japan, a solution of such problem occurs by compounding Social facilities for Old people and local facilities in practical and finacial aspect of the selection of site and managing the facilities and social aspect of supporting oppotunities to use various facilities. Such community based complex facilities supports services depending on the health state of Old people locally residing and increases the communication between different generation. The purpose of this research is aimed to analyze programs and space organization of advanced facilities in Japan and provide basical data for planning complex facilities for old people in Korea.
The Bamboo stands, which had been planted for agricultural uses, have been spreading from fields to hills and mountains beyond farmers’ expectation over the last 50 years. Bamboo stands yield bamboo shoots to be served as a vegetable dish (‘takenoko in Japanese’) every spring, and supply materials for bamboo crafts in various ways. Now, as bamboo products have lost their social demand, bamboo stands has been gradually abandoned. This has resulted in the wild and unfavorable spread of bamboo stands in many regions over the western half of Japan. This paper illustrates the unfavorable spread of bamboo stands regionally in the southern Kyoto from 1985 to 1999 and the Yamashiro area from 1948 to 2000 through the observation of satellite images and aerial photographs.

Damage to high-rise buildings caused by earthquakes is less frequency due to small distribution of high-rise buildings and low transmissibility of seismic motion to high-rise buildings. However, demand for high-rise buildings is increasing for development of construction technology and efficient land use. In addition, if high-rise buildings are constructed on soft ground such as landfill, transmissibility of seismic motion due to long-periodization of seismic waves is likely to increase. Thus, with development of technology, buildings are required to expand range of seismic design such as safety for long-period seismic waves. Therefore, in this study, dynamic experiments were performed to evaluate response characteristics of high-rise buildings according to period characteristics of seismicwaves and time history analysis was performed to verify them.

The rapid urbanization and modernization observed in countries like Myanmar have led to significant concerns regarding traffic congestion, especially in urban areas. This study focuses on the analysis and revitalization of urban transport in selected areas of Myanmar. The core of urban transportation planning lies in travel forecasting, which employs models to predict future traffic patterns and guide decisions related to road capacity, transit services, and land use policies. Travel demand modeling involves a series of mathematical models that simulate traveler behavior and decision-making within a transportation system, including highways, transit options, and policies. The paper offers an overview of the traditional four-step transportation modeling system, utilizing a simplified transport network in the context of Mandalay City, Myanmar.
Recently, the population growth and agricultural development are rapidly undergoing in the South-West Texas. The junction of three river basins such as Lavaca river basin, Colorado-Lavaca Coastal basin and Lavaca-Guadalupe Coastal basin, are interesting for non-point and point source pollutant modeling: Especially, the 2 basins are an intensively agricultural region (Colorado-Lavaca Coastal/Lavaca-Guadalupe Coastal basins) and several cities are rapidly extended. In case of the Lavaca river basin, there are many range land. Several habitat types wide-spread over three relatively larger basins and five wastewater discharge regions are located in there. There are different hazardous substances which have been released. Total nutrient loads are composed of land surface load and river load as Non-point source and discharge from wastewater facilities as point source. In 3 basins region, where point and non-point sources of poll Jtion may be a big concern, because increasing fertilizers and pesticides use and population cause. This project objective seeks to how to assess and control the accumulation of non-point and point source and discuss the main impacts of agriculture and environmental concern as non-point source with water quality related to pesticides, fertilizer, and nutrients and as point source with wasterwater discharge from cities. The GIS technique has been developed to aid in the point and non-point source analysis of impacts to natural resource within watershed. This project shows the losses in $kg/km^2/year$ of BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), TN (Total Nitrogen) and TP (Total Phosphorus) in the runoff from the surface of 3 basins. In the next paper, sediment contamination will show how to evaluate in Estuarine habitats of these downstream.

The objective of this research was to test a hypothesis that sprawl increases congestion, and so the estimated evacuation time become longer. For this, sprawl was thought to be poor accessibility so that vehicle miles of travel become longer. This research shows that the daily vehicle miles per lane mile that are thought to be an accessibility index had a strong and statistically significant relationship to the estimated evacuation time, while urban population density has no statistically significant relationship to the evacuation time. The result of this research recommends that we should consider sustainable land use patterns that decrease traffic demand by providing good accessibility.
The Legal Floor Area Ratio (L-FAR) has been used as a major urban planning tool for efficient management of land use, landscape, and density. The Developed Floor Area Ratio (D-FAR) in each parcel is realized by such physical and institutional factors as urban tissue, local characteristics, and zoning with the L-FAR. The Achieved Floor Area Ratio (A-FAR), the ratio of the D-FAR to the L-FAR, is the relationship between realized density and the intended/desired outcomes of the regulations. The A-FAR informs the efficiency of L-FAR and its effect on parcels, and is an indicator of the demands of real estate developments under the zoning regulation. This study used detailed data of each parcel's characteristics, including parcel size, road width, and the number of roads bordered by a parcel, to identify the influencing factors on A-FAR. This analysis confirmed that the parcel size has a non-linear negative effect in the residential zone but a linear positive effect on A-FAR in the commercial zone. The width of the parcel's frontage in the commercial zone has a positive effect on the value, while in the residential zone the narrower width has higher A-FAR. In Seoul, the residential zone has higher A-FAR than the commercial zone, which means that the former has a relatively higher development pressure but a lower designated L-FAR. This result reflects that Seoul's residential zone absorbs the demand of commercial uses because of the significant permitting of mixed land use and has high-density residential buildings.

New Zealand is a hydrologically diverse and active country. This paper presents an overview of the major hydrological issues and problems facing New Zealand and provides examples of some the research being undertaken to solve the problems. Fundamental to any environmental decision making is the provision of good quality hydrometric data. Reduced funding for the national hydrometric network has meant a reduction in the number of monitoring sites, the decision on how to redesign the network was made using information on geographic coverage and importance of each site. New Zealand faces a major problem in understanding the impacts of rapid land use change on water quantity and quality. On top of the land use change is overlain the issue of agricultural intensification. The transfer of knowledge about impacts of change at the small watershed scale to much larger, more complex watersheds is one that is attracting considerable research attention. There is a large amount of research currently being undertaken to understand the processes of water and nutrient movement through the vadose zone into groundwater and therefore understanding the time taken for leached nutrients to reach receiving water bodies. The largest water management issue of the past 5 years has been based around fair and equitable water allocation when there is increasing demand for irrigation water. Apart from policy research into market trading for water there has been research into water storage and transfer options and improving irrigation efficiency. The final water management issue discussed concerns the impacts of hydrological extremes (floods and droughts). This is of particular concern with predictions of climate change for New Zealand suggesting increased hydrological extremes. Research work has concentrated on producing predictive models. These have been both detailed inundation models using high quality LIDAR data and also flood models for the whole country based on a newly interpolated grid network of rainfall.

The acceleration of global warming has required better understanding of carbon cycles over local and regional areas such as the Korean peninsula. Since forests serve as a carbon sink, which stores a large amount of terrestrial carbon, there has been a demand to accurately estimate such forest carbon sequestration. In Korea, the National Forest Inventory(NFI) has been used to estimate the forest carbon stocks based on the amount of growing stocks per hectare measured at sampled location. However, as such data are based on point(i.e., plot) measurements, it is difficult to identify spatial distribution of forest carbon stocks. This study focuses on urban areas, which have limited number of NFI samples and have shown rapid land cover change, to estimate grid-based forest carbon stocks based on UNFCCC Approach 3 and Tier 3. Land cover change and forest carbon stocks were estimated using Landsat 5 TM data acquired in 1991, 1992, 2010, and 2011, high resolution airborne images, and the 3rd, 5th~6th NFI data. Machine learning techniques(i.e., random forest and support vector machines/regression) were used for land cover change classification and forest carbon stock estimation. Forest carbon stocks were estimated using reflectance, band ratios, vegetation indices, and topographical indices. Results showed that 33.23tonC/ha of carbon was sequestrated on the unchanged forest areas between 1991 and 2010, while 36.83 tonC/ha of carbon was sequestrated on the areas changed from other land-use types to forests. A total of 7.35 tonC/ha of carbon was released on the areas changed from forests to other land-use types. This study was a good chance to understand the quantitative forest carbon stock change according to the land cover change. Moreover the result of this study can contribute to the effective forest management.
