  • Applying graph and correlation developed in other countries to the domestic field has limits. Therefore, it is necessary that Piezocone factor should be determined by including ground characteristics obtained from various test results in the domestic site for better application. In this study, laboratory tests and field tests were performed to find the characteristics of soft ground which was widely distributed around Siwha lake. A comparative analysis of these tests with Piezocone penetration test was performed and the Piezocone factor was estimated by correlationship analysis of undrained shear strength and cone resistance. Also, an appropriate Piezocone factor in the study site was reestimated by utilizing statistical analysis method for deriving reliable result.

  • The generation of precise digital elevation model (DEM) is very important in coastal area where time series are especially required. Although a LIDAR system is useful in coastal regions, it is not yet popular in Korea mainly because of its high surveying cost and national security reasons. Recently, precise DEM has been made using radar interferometry and waterline methods. One of these methods, spaceborne imaging radar interferometry has been widely used to measure the topography and deformation of the Earth. We acquired ALOS PALSAR FBD mode (Fine Beam Dual) data for evaluating the quality of interferograms and their coherency. We attempted to construct DEM using ALOS PALSAR pairs - One pair is 2007/05/22 and 2007/08/22, another pair is 2007/08/22 and 2007/10/22 with respective perpendicular baseline of 820 m, 312m and respective height sensitivity of 75 m and 185m at southern of Ganghwa tidal flat, Siwha- and Hwaong-lake over west coastal of Korea peninsula. Ganghwa tidal flat has low coherence between 0.3 and 0.5 of 2007/05/22 and 2007/08/22 pair. However, Siwha-lake and Hwaong-lake areas have a higher coherence value (From 0.7 and 0.9) than Ganghwa tidal area. The reason of difference coherence value is tidal condition between tidal flat area (Ganghwa) and reclaimed zone (Siwha-lake and Hwaong-lake). Therefore, DEM was constructed by ALOS PALSAR pair over Siwha-lake and Hwaong-lake. If the temporal baseline is enough short to maintain the coherent phases and height sensitivity is enough small, we will be able to successfully construct a precise DEM over coastal area. From now on, more ALOS PALSAR data will be needed to construct precise DEM of West Coast of Korea peninsular.

  • The integrated power system combining a tidal power plant and two ocean current power parks is suggested. It is characterized by the set up of an ocean current power park in the lake side by installing a number of ocean current turbines generating electricity by using sea water flow discharged into the lake side from the turbine generator of a tidal power plant and an ocean current power park in the sea side by installing a number of ocean current turbines generating electricity by using sea water flow exiting into the sea side through the sluice gate from the lake side. The vision of the integrated power system is demonstrated by the simple theory and simulation results of the SIWHA Tidal Power Plant. And it is shown that the newly proposed integrated power system combining tidal power and ocean current power can produce very high economical benefits.

  • This research is aim to analyze of changing landscape and according to phenological cycle from image information of coastal environment obtained by multi-media were analyzed by camera and satellite image. The digital camera and satellite image were used for tidal flat vegetation monitoring during the construction of Sihwa lake. The vegetation type and phenological cycle of Sihwa tidal flat have been changed with the Sihwa lake ecosystem. The environment changes of Sihwa tidal flat area and ecological change were analyzed by field work digital camera images and satellite images. The airborne, UAV and satellite images were classified with the changed elements of coastal ecological environment and tidal flat vegetation monitoring carried out the changed area and shape of vegetation distribution with time series images.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of STS modules reflecting Ansan's geological characteristics in Chemistry I on high school students' science related attitudes and preference for STS lessons. The subjects were 10th grade students from K High School in Ansan and comprised 71 students in the experiment group and 78 students in the control group from 2 classes each. Pretest-posttest control group design was employed for the purpose of research. Four STS modules with lesson plans and teaching materials with themes of water, air, and energy, all of which are closely related to high school Chemistry I were developed and applied to the experiment group. The science related attitudes and preference for STS lessons were then examined in pre- and post-tests. The science related attitudes of the experiment group were significantly high in three out of five domains compared to the control group who was taught traditionally. The preference for STS lessons of the experiment group were highly positive in all five areas and were particularly high in the area of 'relation to society'. Such results imply that in order to make effective high school Chemistry I curriculum units related to STS, emphasized by both the 7th National Curriculum and the Revised 7th National Curriculum, it is necessary to use episodes reflecting local characteristics in which students show greater interest and active participation.
