  • The lack of industrial manpower that Korean companies have been suffering in 21st century is largely responsible for the low-fertility phenomenon. This research suggests an alternative solution with a program for fostering foreign laborers with technical skills in casting industry. Industrial manpower growth is feasible through accepting migrants who have had official education on the fundamental industrial technologies provided by Korean government. These technically trained migrants who can keep economical self-perpetuating ability are can help to effectively address the problem of the declining working-age population and the decreasing potential growth rate in Korea.

  • In any form of construction work, it is essential that accidents be prevented at every stage, from foundation preparation to build completion. For this, it is necessary to use models that can assess risk and provide instructions for safe work processes so that the risk of accidents is reduced. Currently, however, very few models can perform these tasks. In this paper, we present a model that assesses risk quantitatively by analyzing the risk factors involved in each stage of construction, such as foundation work, temporary work, structural work, equipment work, and finishing work. The model performs assessment based on examples of accidents and by investigating actual conditions during construction. In addition, we present in this paper a safety management system developed to assess risk during construction and to effectively train laborers.

  • The concepts of four parameters of nominal water-cement ratio, equivalent water-cement ratio, average paste thickness, fly ash-binder ratio were introduced. It was verified that the four parameters and the mix proportion of mortar can be transformed each other. The behaviors (strength, workability, et al.) of mortar primarily determined by the mix proportion of mortar now depend on the four parameters. The prediction models of strength and workability of mortar were built based on artificial neural networks (ANNs). The calculation models of average paste thickness and equivalent water-cement ratio of mortar can be obtained by the reversal deduction of the two prediction models, respectively. A mortar mix proportion design algorithm was proposed. The proposed mortar mix proportion design algorithm is expected to reduce the number of trial and error, save cost, laborers and time.

  • We study on the housewives'social contribution through their household labor. By the method of literature review, we discuss about the housewives'social roles, their negative problems and the private and public efforts to solve the problems, and ultimate direction to the solutions. We find their four roles-Invisible labors In this capitalist society. consumers without any sovereignty, substitutes for incomplete social welfare system and agents to develop and sustain the social network. A few solutions which they have found out or the Korean society has devised are not enough. The utmost and ultimate solutions should include the housewives'autonomy. subjectivity and community.

  • In this paper, an unmanned automation system for harvesting chili peppers through image recognition in the color space is proposed. We developed a cutting-edge technology in terms of convergence between information and communication technology (ICT) and agriculture. Agriculture requires a lot of manpower and entails hard work by the laborers. In this study, we developed an autonomous application that can obtain the head coordinates of a chili pepper using image recognition based on the OpenCV library. As an alternative solution to labor shortages in rural areas, a robot-based chili pepper harvester is proposed as a convergence technology between ICT and agriculture requiring hard labor. Although agriculture is currently a very important industry for human workers, in the future, we expect robots to have the capability of harvesting chili peppers autonomously.

  • Labor productivity issues within the construction industry are receiving increasing attention. With the improvement in the standard of living, domestic laborers are avoiding 3D(Difficult, Dirty, and Dangerous) jobs by degrees. Because of this situation, the problem of insufficient labor is exacerbating in several basic industries. In particular, insufficient labor is a serious problem in the construction sector, where the workers are ageing and labor costs are increasing. In this study, we adopt a systematic approach to identify factors that influence labor productivity and analyze the causality between the factors and their ripple effects with the aim that the results of the study will help improve labor productivity and ensure its effective management. The established labor productivity model using systems thinking will get a footing in the greatest strategy in the construction industry.

  • Ever since Hochschild (1983) introduced the concept of emotional labor in the workplace, it has constantly interested researchers due to its impact on employees' well-being as well as organizational outcomes. However, a thorough understanding of emotional labor and its relationship with various outcomes in sales people is not yet realized. In a systemic approach to the concept using quantitative methods is still necessary. The present study treats emotional labor as two factors (e.g. emotive dissonance and emotive effort). The psychological and behavioral outcomes of each sub-construct of emotional labor are investigated within a parsimonious framework. The findings suggest that emotional dissonance affected job satisfaction, while emotive effort had a significant influence on emotional exhaustion and job performance.

  • Detecting and assessing human-related risks is critical to improve the on-site safety condition and reduce the loss in lives, time and budget for construction industry. Recent research in neural science and psychology suggest inattentional blindness that caused by overload in working memory is the major cause of unexpected human related accidents. Due to the limitation of human mental workload, laborers are vulnerable to unexpected hazards while focusing on complicated and dangerous construction tasks. Therefore, detecting the risk perception abilities of workers could help to identify vulnerable individuals and reduce unexpected injuries. However, there are no available measurement approaches or devices capable of monitoring construction workers' mental conditions. The research proposed in this paper aims to develop such a measurement framework to evaluate hazards through monitoring electroencephalogram of labors. The research team developed a wearable safety monitoring helmet, which can collect the brain waves of users for analysis. A bispectrum approach has been developed in this paper to enrich the data source and improve accuracy.
