  • This paper presents robustness propertis of the Kalman Fiter and the associated LQG/LTR method for linear time-invariant output-delayed systems. It is shown that, even for minimum phase plants, the LQG/LTR method can not recover the target loop transfer function. Instead, an upper bound on the recovery error is obtained using an upper bound of the solution of the Kalman filter Riccati equations. Finally, some dual properties between output-delayed systems and input-delayed systems are exploited.

투광율과 토양수분함량이 묘삼(苗蔘) 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Light Transmission Ratio and Soil Moisture Content on Growth Characteristics of Seedling in Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer)

  • 비닐하우스 내에서 일평균 투광율을 21.2%, 24.8%, 30.3%와 같이 3수준으로, 토양수분을 11.0%, 12.5%, 15.3%, 18.9%와 같이 4수준으로 조절하여 묘삼의 생육 및 수량을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 엽록소 함량은 투광율이 낮은 조건에서 토양수분함량의 감소에 따라 완만히 감소되었으나 투광량이 높은 조건에서 토양수분함량이 낮아지면 엽록소 함량은 현저히 감소되었다.고온장해율은 투광율이 낮은 조건에서 토양수분함량이 11.0%처럼 매우 낮을 때에만 현저히 증가되었지만 투광량이 높은 조건에서는 토양수분함량의 감소에 따라 고온장해율은 급격히 증가되었다. 3.3$m^2$(칸)당 생근중, 주당 생근중 및 사용가능묘삼수는 투광율이 증가되고 토양수분함량이 감소될수록 뚜렷이 감소되었는데, 토양수분함량이 적절한 조건(18.9%)에서는 투광율이 증가되어도 묘삼수량의 감소는 적었으나 토양수분함량이 부족한 조건에서는 투광율이 증가될수록 묘삼수량은 현저히 감소되었다. 적변율은 투광율이 높고 토양수분함량이 많을 때 현저히 증가되었는데, 투광율이 높은 조건에서 토양수분함량이 감소되면 적변율도 차차 감소되었으며, 투광율이 낮은 조건에서 적변율은 토양수분함량에 따라 큰 변화를 보이지 않았다.

  • Long terminal repeats(LTRs) of the human endogenous retrovirus(HERV) heve been found to be coexpresed with genes located nearby. It has been suggested that the LTR elements have contributed to the genetic variation of human genome connected to various diseases. Recently, HERV-W family was identified in the cerebrospinal fluids and brains of individuals with schizophrenia. Using cHNA library derived from human fetal brain, we performed PCR amplification and identified seven new HERV-W LTR elements. Those LTR elements showed a high degree of sequence similarity(98∼99%) with HERV-W (AF072500). A phylogentic tree obtained by the neighbor-joining method revealed that seven new HERV-W LTR elements(FB-1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 12) were closely related to the AX000960, AF072504, and AF072506 from Gen Bank database. Our data suggest that several copy numbers of the HERV-W LTR elements are expressed in human feta brain and may contribute to an understanding of biological function connected to neuropsychiatric diseases.

  • The LQG/LTR method is applied to the real servomechanism with the unknown modeling error and system noise variance Q$_{2}$. The equivalent discretized LQG controller is implemented on the 16-bit microcomputer and the experimental results show the improved stability and the satisfactory performance when the noise variance Q$_{2}$ is increased infinitly.

  • A LQG/LTR(linear quadratic Gaussian/loop transfer recovery) controller with an integrator is designed to control the electro-hydraulic positioning system. Without considering the nonlinearity in the dead-zone, computer simulations are performed and show good performances and tracking abilities with the feedback controller based on the linear system model. However, the performance of the closed loop hydraulic positioning system shows big steady-state error in real system because of the dead-zone. In this paper, the feedback controller with a nonlinear compensator is introduced to overcome the dead-zone phenomenon in hydraulic systems. The inverse dead-zone as a nonlinear compensator is used to cancel out the dead-zone phenomenon. Experimental tests are performed to verify the performance of the controller.

Insertional Mutation of the Rice Blast Resistance Gene, Pi-b, by Long Terminal Repeat of a Retrotransposon

  • The Pi-b is the rice gene conferring race specific resistance to the blast fungus Magnaporthe grisea race having a corresponding avirulence gene, AVR-Pi-b. All resistant cultivars have two copies of the Pi-b gene, but susceptible cultivars have a single copy of the gene. About 1 Kbp insertion sequence was detected in the open reading frame of the Pi-b gene from the susceptible cv. Nipponbare. The nature of insertion sequence was identified as a solo long terminal repeat (LTR) of new rice Tyl-copia-like retrotransposon. LTR was widely distributed in the rice genome. Various types of different patterns of restriction fragment length polymorphism of LTR were detected in indica cultivars, whereas a single type was detected from japonica cultivars. The insertion of LTR sequence in the Pi-b gene in the susceptible cultivar suggested that retrotransposon-mediated insertional mutation might played an important role in the resistance breakdown as well as evolution of resistance genes in rice.

개선된 LQG/LTR방법에 의한 보일러-터빈제어 시스템의 설계 (Design of a Boiler-Turbine Control System Using a Modified LQG/LTR Method)

  • In this paper, a multivariable robust controller for a boiler-burbine system is designed by using a modified LQG/LTR method. From the known nonlinear dynamic model, a linearized model is obtained with the saturations at both input magnitude and input varying rate. The modeling error is analyzed at various operation points. A new dynamics augmentation method in the LQG/LTR method is suggested which can be applied to LQG/LTR method to reject the input and output disturbances and to follow reference inputs under modeling errors. The good performance of the designed controller is shown by simulations in various conditions.

  • In this paper, a transfer function was obtained for a PWM high speed solenoid valve controlled metal belt CVT system. The transfer function was defined as the ratio of speed ratio to PWM duty ratio and derived in time domain by linear regression analysis from the experimental results. The transfer function obtained showed different dynamic characteristics for the up and down shift. Also, LQG/LTR controller was designed for the CVT system using the transfer function. It is seen from the experimental results that LQG/LTR control showed good performance for the speed ratio tracking and disturbance rejection. The phase difference and relatively slow response are considered due to the inaccuracy os the transfer functions, which resulted from the inherent nonlinearities of the transmission characteristics of the metal belt CVT.

  • This paper presents a 3-DOF hovering flight controller for a model helicopter using the minimal order LQG/LTR technique. A model helicopter is an unstable multi-input multi-output nonlinear system strongly exposed to disturbances, so a robust multi-variable control theory should be applied to control it. The minimal order LQG/LTR technique which uses a reduced-order observer in the LTR procedure is used to design the controller. Performances for the 3-DOF hovering flight controller are evaluated through computer simulations.
