Even though current LTE/LTE-A mobile networks provide enough high data rate and low latency to support conventional wireless services, to support ultra-low delay services, such as virtual reality and remote control, in the next generation mobile communication network, it is required to provide very low delay about several ms. However, in the uplink transmission of the LTE/LTE-A system, the process of scheduling grant is required to obtain uplink resources for uplink transmission from the eNB. The process of granting uplink resources from eNB brings additional fixed latency, which is one of the critical obstacles to achieve low delay in uplink transmissions. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel uplink transmission scheme called Cut-in uplink transmission, to reduce uplink latency. We provide the performance of the proposed uplink transmission scheme through simulations and show the proposed uplink transmission scheme provides lower uplink transmission delay than conventional uplink transmission scheme in LTE/LTE-A mobile networks.

It is essential to develop an estimation and cancellation algorithm for feedback signals in designing the interference cancellation systems (ICS) as a solution to extending the coverage of the TDD LTE networks. Unlike the radio access of FDD LTE networks, TDD networks utilize the same frequency band in downlink and uplink for radio access. For this reason, downlink and uplink are repeated in time and thus the estimation of the feedback signals in uplink and downlink, respectively, is periodically paused to cause performance degradation. In this study, the reciprocity of downlink and uplink is examined through experiments and exploiting the same frequency band in uplink and downlink, an efficient channel estimation and elimination algorithm is proposed since the algorithm utilizes the same structure for both downlink and uplink.

LTE-Advanced aims at peak data rates of 1Gbits/s for the downlink and 500 Mbits/s for the uplink, which can be accomplished only by using wide spectrum allocation of 100MHz as well as advanced multiple input multiple output antenna techniques to the uplink. This paper analyzes the uplink precoding techniques which include LTE codebook of downlink, singular value decomposition codebook, and equal gain transmission codebook over LTE defined single carrier frequency division multiplexing systems. Finally considering nonlinear transmit power amplifier model, it is shown that link-level performance of EGT is superior to those of any other precoding schemes.

This paper calculates estimated number of cell sites to build a nationwide PPDR(Public Protection and Disaster Relief) network of WiBro and LTE technical methods through a link budget calculation, presents the efficient technical method through a comparison between the number of cell sites using WiBro and LTE. As a calculation results, the number of cell sites using WiBro method are larger than twice compared to that of LTE method on the same frequency bands, due to the differences of uplink PAPR, uplink transmission technique and SINR. On the basis of the result, LTE mothod is considered as a more effective technology than the WiBro method on the economic, technical and marketing points of views on building a nationwide network.

In the 3GPP LTE systems, SC-FDMA is adopted for the uplink owing to its good PAPR efficiency. In the frequency domain, however, the performance of SC-FDMA is degraded due to frequency selective fading. As a compromise, a Hybrid OFDMA/SC-FDMA was proposed in the LTE-Advanced systems. Hybrid scheme uses SC-FDMA in the edge of cell area, while it uses OFDMA nearby the base-station. In this paper, uplink relays based on hybrid scheme is proposed to increase the performance of the 3GPP LTE systems. With different positions of mobile and relay, the proposed scheme can adaptively select SC-FDMA or OFDMA to improve the link performance. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a better performance in terms of end-to-end BER and power consumption.

In this letter, a DFT-based channel estimator is proposed for the uplink of LTE-A systems to solve the leakage and enhance the spectral efficiency. It is confirmed that the proposed estimator can significantly improve user and cell spectral efficiencies compared to conventional estimators.

The closed-loop multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system has been adopted by long term evolution (LTE) system. Many techniques are proposed to enhance the transmission of LTE's advanced version to meet the increasing requirement, in which differential codebook gains a lot of interest. Previous researches on designing differential codebooks focused on quasi-diagonal unitary matrix which cannot guarantee the equal gain property. The equal gain property is very important to uplink because the performance of uplink is very sensitive to the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In this paper, we derive the analytical expression of average bit error rate and PAPR for differential precoding MIMO system. Using the analytical results, we investigate the performances of several differential precoding schemes considering non-linear amplifier at the transmitter. Some selected simulation results indicate that the conventional differential precoding schemes have good performances without the consideration of non-linear amplifier. While considering non-linear amplifier, the proposed differential codebook outperforms other differential precoding schemes because it maintains the equal gain per transmit antenna.

LTE-Advanced system requires uplink multi-antenna transmission in order to achieve the peak spectral efficiency of 15bps/Hz. In this paper, the uplink MIMO system model for the LTE-Advanced is proposed and an efficient link adaptation shceme using precoding is considered providing error rate reduction and system capacity enhancement. In particular, the proposed scheme determines a transmission rank by selecting the optimal wideband precoding matrix, which is based on the derived signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) for the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) receivers of $2{\times}4$ multiple input multiple output (MIMO). The proposed scheme is verified by simulation with a practical MIMO channel model. The simulation results of average block-error-rate(BLER) reflect that the gain due to the proposed rank adapted transmission over full-rank transmission is evident particularly in the case of lower modulation and coding scheme (MCS) and high mobility, which means the severe channel fading environment.
Carrier aggregation is an essential feature in the Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) system, which allows the scalable expansion of the effective bandwidth to be delivered to user equipment (UE) through the concurrent use of radio resources across multiple component carriers (CCs). This system's optimal radio-resource use has received much attention under simultaneous access (SA) scenarios for multiple CCs (m-CCs). This letter establishes how many CCs a UE should simultaneously connect to maintain maximum uplink capacity. Under the m-CC LTE-A system, the spectral efficiency of the m-CC SA scheme ($m{\geq}2$) is compared with that of CC selection (CCS). Numerical results reveal that the 2-CC SA scheme outperforms CCS and performs almost equally to the m-CC SA scheme ($m{\geq}3$).

Long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems adopt closed-loop multiple-input multiple-output antenna techniques. Equal gain transmission which has equal gain property is the key factor in their codebook design. In this paper, a novel differential codebook structure which maintains the codebook design requirements of LTE or LTE-A systems. Especially, eight-phase shift keying (8-PSK) constellations are used as elements of codewords, which not only maintain equal gain property but also reduce the computation complexity of precoding and decoding function blocks. The equal gain property is very important to uplink because the performance of uplink is very sensitive to the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Moreover, the operation of the proposed differential codebook is explained as a rotation-lock structure. As the results of computer simulations, the steady-state throughput performance of the proposed codebook shows at least 0.9dB of SNR better than those of the conventional LTE codebook with the same amount of feedback information.
