  • This paper presents a compact and miniaturized power detector utilizing low temperature co-fired ceramics(LTCC) technology for the application in wireless handset system to monitor the transmitting power at the frequency of 824-849MHz. The proposed power detector is composed of detector diode, lumped components for matching network, and LTCC stripline coupler based on LTCC substrate technology. A 20dB LTCC stripline direction coupler is designed and implemented with many bending section in order to reduce the practically occupied area for miniaturization. A zero bias schottky diode is adopted for detector design because of its high speed operation with minimized loss. The measured performances of fabricated detector agree well with the predicted results with a good linearity within the effective input RF power range.

  • A coupler is a microwave passive component used for power coupling or dividing. Regarding the trend of current telecommunication systems it is highly desirable for monolithic integration of passive components as such LTCC(Low temperature cofired ceramics) technology offers potential advantage in size, cost and performance. Utilizing LTCC technology a 2012 size type dual band coupler for DCS and EGSM band was fabricated. Its characteristics such as coupling, insertion loss, isolation and directivity was measured and compared with simulation results

  • Nowadays, the study on the ceramic components and modules used in telecommunication system is being performed. Coupler is a microwave passive component used for power coupling or dividing and directional coupler is designed to be possible optional dividing percentage. In our research, We developed 14dB and 19dB directional couplers of EGSM band. The good characteristics, the target insertion loss and high isolation, of couplers is obtained by LTCC processing using a ceramic material.

  • A push-push voltage controlled dielectric resonator oscillator (VCDRO) with a modified frequency tuning structure using broadside couplers is investigated. The push-push VCDRO designed at 16 GHz is manufactured using a low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology to reduce the circuit size. The frequency tuning structure using a broadside coupler is embedded in a layer of the A6 substrate by using the LTCC process. Experimental results show that the fundamental and third harmonics are suppressed above 15 dBc and 30 dBc, respectively, and the phase noise of push-push VCDRO is -97.5 dBc/Hz at an offset frequency of 100 kHz from the carrier. The proposed frequency tuning structure has a tuning range of 4.46 MHz over a control voltage of 1-11 V. This push-push VCDRO has a miniature size of 15 mm×15 mm. The proposed design and fabrication techniques for a push-push oscillator seem to be applicable in many space and commercial VCDRO products.

  • In this paper, a novel lumped equivalent circuit for a conventional parallel directional coupler is proposed. The equivalent circuit and design formula for the presented lumped element coupler is derived based on the even-and odd-mode properties of a parallel-coupled line. By using the derived design formula, we have designed the 3㏈ and 10㏈ lumped element directional couplers at the center frequency of 100Mhz. Furthermore, a chip type directional coupler has been designed to fabricate with multilayer configurations by employing the Low Temperature CofiredCeramic (LTCC) process. Designed chip-type directional coupler has a 10㏈-coupling value at the center frequency of 2㎓. Excellent agreements between simulations and measurements on the designed directional couplers show the validity of this paper

  • The sintering behavior of LTCC (low temperature cofired ceramics) chip couplers was investigated in relation with Ag diffusion at the interface of glass ceramic substrate-Ag electrode. Sintering temperature was in the range of 825$^{\circ}C$-975$^{\circ}C$. The commercial green sheet and silver electrode were used. Below 875$^{\circ}C$ the diffusion of the Ag ion into the substrate and the penetration of glassy phases into the electrode occurred due to an increase of fluidity. Thus the lectrode line was severely deformed and damaged. At 975$^{\circ}C$ the transformation of crystalline phases into glassy phases and the melting of the Ag electrode resulted in the diffusion of the considerable amount of Ag ions.
