Offshore structure crossing navigation waterways must not only be designed to resist gravity, wind, and earthquake load, but also be capable of resisting ship and barge collision load. Current specifications for offshore structure design provide empirical relationships for computing impact loads generated during barge collision, however, these relationships are based on the limited experimental data. In this paper, the dynamic finite element analysis is used to computing force for vessel collision scenarios to offshore structures. Results obtained from the ANSYS/LS-DYNA are compared to AASHTO bridge design specifications.

There is a big risk of bullet impact because military rotorcraft is run in the battle environment. Due to the bullet impact, the rapid increase of the internal pressure can cause the internal explosion or fire of fuel cell. It can be a deadly damage on the survivability of crews. Then, fuel cell of military rotorcraft should be designed taking into account the extreme situation. As the design factor of fuel cell, the internal fluid pressure, structural stress and bullet kinetic energy can be considered. The verification test by real object is the best way to obtain these design data. But, it is a big burden due to huge cost and long-term preparation efforts and the failure of verification test can result in serious delay of a entire development plan. Thus, at the early design stage, the various numerical simulations test is needed to reduce the risk of trial-and-error together with prediction of the design data. In the present study, the bullet impact numerical simulation based on SPH(smoothed particle hydrodynamic) is conducted with the commercial package, LS-DYNA. Then, the resulting equivalent stress, internal pressure and bullet's kinetic energy are evaluated in detail to examine the possibility to obtain the configuration design data of the fuel cell.

In this study, the dynamic impact analysis for the passenger air-bag(PAB) module has been carried out by using FEM to predict the dynamic characteristics of vehicle ride safety against head impact. The impact performance of vehicle air-bag is directly related to the design parameters of passenger air-bag module assembly, such as the tie bar bracket's width and thickness, respectively, However, the product's design of PAB module parameters are estimated through experimental trial and error according to the designer's experience, generally. Therefore, the dynamic analysis of head impact test of the passenger air-bag module assembly of automobile is needed to construct the analytical methodology At first, the FE models, which are consist of instrument panel, PAB Module, and head part, are combined to the whole module system. Then, impact analysis is carried out by the explicit solution procedure with assembled FE model. And the dynamic characteristics of the head impact are observed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing with the experimental results. The better optimized impact performance characteristics is proposed by changing the tie bracket's width md thickness of module. The proposed approach of impact analysis will provides an efficient vehicle to improve the design quality and reduce the design period and cost. The results reported herein will provide a better understanding of the vehicle dynamic characteristics against head impact.
The LBS(Location-Based Service), which is based on individual's mobility, is required increasingly as mobile telecommunication and various infrastructures have developed rapidly. The technologies for LBS are location determination technology, service platform technology, contents provider technology and moving object database technology generally. Among these, service platform must be interoperable with location gate-way server and provide common function of billing, authentification, protect location information, privacy control, location trigger and intelligent acquisition and so on. The TTA(Telecommunications Technology Association) published specification that defines a standard protocol for safe and simple interface between LBS client and LBS platform and the OpenLS(Open Location Service) in OGC (Open GIS Consortium) released implementation specifications for providing Location based core services. In this paper, we implemented service platform for LBS which is able to interoperable with location gateway server and contents provider and is caracterized as follows. First, it could require and response location information from different types of location gateway server with same interface. Second, it complies with the standard interfaces with OpenLS 4 contents providers for core LBS. Third, it could provide location of wired phone as well as wireless mobile terminal compling with the standard protocol. Last, it could provide trajectorH information based past location as well as current location, because it is able to interoperable with moving object DBMS. This paper contributes to the construction and practical use of LBS by providing the method of implementation of service platform for LBS.

An optimization method is proposed for preform and billet shape designs in the forging process by using the Equivalent Static Loads (ESLs). The preform shape is an important factor in the forging process because the quality of the final forging is significantly influenced by it. The ESLSO is used to determine the shape of the preform. In the ESLSO, nonlinear dynamic loads are transformed to the ESLs and linear response optimization is performed using the ESLs. The design is updated in linear response optimization and nonlinear analysis is performed with the updated design. The examples in this paper show that optimization using the ESLs is useful and the design results are satisfactory. Consequently, the optimal preform and billet shapes which produce the desired final shape have been obtained. Nonlinear analysis and linear response optimization of the forging process are performed using the commercial software LS-DYNA and NASTRAN, respectively.
PURPOSE. The effect of core design on the fracture resistance of zirconia-lithium disilicate (LS2) bilayered crowns for anterior teeth is evaluated by comparing with that of metal-ceramic crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty customized titanium abutments for maxillary central incisor were prepared. Each group of 10 units was constructed using the same veneer form of designs A and B, which covered labial surface to approximately one third of the incisal and cervical palatal surface, respectively. LS2 pressed-on-zirconia (POZ) and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns were divided into "POZ_A," "POZ_B," "PFM_A," and "PFM_B" groups, and 6000 thermal cycles (5/55 ℃) were performed after 24 h storage in distilled water at 37 ℃. All specimens were prepared using a single type of self-adhesive resin cement. The fracture resistance was measured using a universal testing machine. Failure mode and elemental analyses of the bonding interface were performed. The data were analyzed using Welch's t-test and the Games-Howell exact test. RESULTS. The PFM_B (1376. 8 ± 93.3 N) group demonstrated significantly higher fracture strength than the PFM_A (915.8 ± 206.3 N) and POZ_B (963.8 ± 316.2 N) groups (P<.05). There was no statistically significant difference in fracture resistance between the POZ_A (1184.4 ± 319.6 N) and POZ_B groups (P>.05). Regardless of the design differences of the zirconia cores, fractures involving cores occurred in all specimens of the POZ groups. CONCLUSION. The bilayered anterior POZ crowns showed different fracture resistance and fracture pattern according to the core design compared to PFM.

In modern naval ships, the design of submarines has continually evolved to improve survivability and it is also important to design ship against shock response. Exiting underwater ship design has been peformed due to results of static analysis considering shock acceleration by simple method. However, it can not be anticipated good assesment. The present study applied the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) technique, a fluid-structure interaction approach, to simulate an underwater explosion and investigate the survival capability of a damaged submarine liquefied oxygen tank. The Lagrangian-Eulerian coupling algorithm and the equations of state for explosives and seawater were also reviewed. It is shown that underwater explosion analysis using the ALE technique can accurately evaluate structural damage after attack. This procedure could be applied quantitatively to real structural design.

NHTSA has been conducting biomechanical studies to reduce inujuries sustained sustained during automotive collision. Furthermore, NHTSA added the regulation to the FMVSS 201, limiting the equivalent HIC(Head Injury Criterion) value under 1000. In the presont work, a methodology was developed for the optimum design of the A-pillar trim with rib-structures. The design variables for the rib-strucrures were the transverse spacing, the longitudinal spacing, and the thickness. The required sets of the design varibles were decided based on the design of experiments. The head impact simulations were carried out using the LS-DYNA3D, and the HIC(d) values were computed using the resulrs of the head impact simulation. The objective function was constructed using the response surface methed (RSM). When the obtained optimum values were not inside the region of interest, the design proceduers were repeated by changing the region of interest. Finally, an A-pillar trim with rib-structures, which resulred in HIC(d) value under 850 for 15 mph head-trim impact, was developed.
Recently, environmental design are becoming a matter of grave concern in shipbuilding. Out of these concern, oil spilt which is induced by grounding accidents is very critical reason of the ocean pollution. Therefore, a series qf quarter of 105k tanker model grounding simulations were conducted to analyze it's characteristics for the accident. ship get using LS-DYNA3D. In this paper, to conduct whole simulations, a meshsize convergence test was carried out to determine appropriate meshsize for grounding test. After the series analysis. These results were analyzed as each case.

In this paper, two series of numerical simulations are performed using LS/DYNA3D: The first series of numerical simulations are collision events between a 310,000 DWT double hull VLCC (struck ship) and two 35,000 and 105,000 DWT tankers (striking ships). Collisions are assumed to occur at the middle of the VLCC with the striking ships moving at right angle to the YLCC centerline. The second ones, grounding accidents of two 40,000 DWT Conventional and Advanced Double Hull lanker bottom structures, CONV/PD328 and ADH/PD328 models. The overall objective of this study is to understand the structural failure and energy absorbing mechanisms during collision and grounding events for double hull tanker side and bottom structures, which lead to the initiation of inner shell rupture and cause the kinetic energy dissipation to bring the ship to a stop. These numerical simulations will contribute to the estimation of damage extents of collision and grounding accidents and the future improvements in lanker safety at the design stage.
