  • A7003 alloy has characteristics of their excellent weldability, high corrosion resistance and superior plastic working however the broadening of application for the alloy has been hampered by the lower extrudability associated by Mg content. For improvement of extrudability and enhanced recovery efficiency during Al scrap recyeling, it has been generally practiced to reduce Mg content in A7003 alloy. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the influence of Mg content on mechanical strength and extrudability of A7003 alloy. For efficient material processing which has small amounts, life cycle assessment in material processing(MLCA) is evaluated. The quantitative analysis of energy requirements and $CO_2$ emission for production of A7003 extruded bar are estimated with different Mg content and billet pre-heating process (heating source by light oil or LPG). In particular, the estimation of energy requirements was performed within shipping and gating range (except the mining and extraction stages)to investigate the influence of the variables on energy requirements and $CO_2$ emission in detail. As Mg content increased, the flow stress and the extrusion pressure for A7003 alloy increased. It has been thought that an increment in extrusion pressure with increasing Mg content is caused by the solid solution hardening of Mg atoms in the matrix and increment in volume fraction of intermetallic compound, $Mg_2Si$. The extrudability and the tensile strength are equal to, or above that of conventional A 7003 alloy even the content of Mg varied from $1.1wt.\%\;to\;0.5wt.\%$ alloy. This means that minimizing the content of Mg in A7003 alloy can enhance recovery efficiency during Al scrap recycling. It can be quoted that rather than Mg content energy source for billet heating is a prime factor to determine the atmospheric $CO_2$ emission.

  • As an effective utilization of biomass, organic wastes and coal, attention has been made to use syngas to a reciprocating engine to generate power. However, significant component variation of syngas depending upon origin and gasification conditions, and its lower heating value than that of LPG and CNG can create difficulties in stable engine operation. Thus it is necessary to address these issues in order to successfully develop power generation engines. As a primary step to resolve these problems, effects of H2 content variation in syngas on engine performance and emission characteristics were discussed in this study. The results show that as H2 % in syngas increases, more stable combustion was achieved with retarded MBT spark timing and engine efficiency becomes maximum with syngas of 10% H2. In addition, NOx emission increased while THC emission decreased as H2 % rises in the syngas.

  • In this study, performance evaluation of newly developed technology for the economical and safe removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) coming out from electronic devices washing operation and offensive odor induction materials was made. Metal oxidization catalyst has shown 50% of removal efficiency at the temperature of $220^{\circ}C$. Composite metal oxidization catalyst applied in this study has shown that the actual catalysis has started at the temperature of $100^{\circ}C$. Comprehensive analysis on the catalyst property using Mn-Cu metal oxidization catalyst in the pilot-scale unit was made and the removal efficiency was variable with temperature and space velocity. Full-scale unit developed based on the pilot-scale unit operation has shown 95% of removal efficiency at the temperature of $160^{\circ}C$. Optimum elimination effective rates for the space velocity was found to be $6,000hr^{-1}$. The most appropriate processing treatment range for the inflow concentration of VOCs was between 200 ppm to 4,000 ppm. Catalyst control temperature showed high destruction efficiency at $150{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ degrees Celsius in 90~99%. External heat source was not necessary due to the self-heat reaction incase of VOCs inflow concentration is more than 1,000 ppm. Equipment and fuel costs compared to the conventional RTO/RCO method can be reduced by 50% and 75% respectively. And it was checked when there was poisoning for sulfide and acid gas.

  • Characteristics of $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Dy^{3+}$ phosphorescent phosphors synthesized by solid state reaction and polymerized complex method were comparatively analyzed. In order to evaluate thermal stability of $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Dy^{3+}$ phosphorescent phosphors at high temperature, phosphorescent properties of $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Dy^{3+}$ were investigated with thermal treatment at $1250^{\circ}C$ under reducing atmosphere, which was the general heat treatment conditions for ceramic manufacturing process. The phosphorescent properties of thermally treated $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Dy^{3+}$ phosphors synthesized by solid state reaction and polymerized complex method were investigated. The crystal structure and crystallite size were observed through XRD analysis. Microstructure and particle size of thermally treated $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Dy^{3+}$ phosphors were analyzed by SEM and PSA. Photoluminescence and afterglow characteristics of thermally treated $SrAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Dy^{3+}$ phosphorescent phosphors were measured by spectrofluorometer.
