  • Fuel cells are currently attracting tremendous interest because of their huge potential in stationary applications, in terms of substantiality of our energy use. They also offer environmental advantages, combining significantly higher efficiency with very much lower emission of SOx, NOx, and residual hydrocarbons, and significantly reduced $CO_{2}$ emissions compared to conventional power generation. The molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) was introduced from Fuel Cell Energy(FCE), which the one MCFC was operating by LNG and the other was operating by ADG. The ADG contains normally CH4, CO2 and various impurities such as sulfur compounds and siloxanes. Using the ADG as a fuel, MCFC have the potential to provide significant environmental and economic benefits. However, such impurities would be harmful to fuel cells. In this work, a purification process for the ADG was designed and installed in order to utilize the gas as a fuel for MCFC.

  • 기존 메탄 & 질소 팽창 사이클의 효율 개선을 위해 2개의 메탄 팽창 공정 (cold composite curve에 변곡점을 하나 더 추가하기 위해 warm & cold 2개 공정으로 나눔)과 1개의 질소 팽창 공정을 사용한 천연가스 액화 사이클을 소개하기 위한 논문이다. 이전 질소 팽창 사이클 및 메탄 & 질소 사이클과 비교했을 때, 13.92 및 13.13에서 12.08 kW/ton/day로 효율이 8~15% 정도 개선되었다. 순 현재가치(NPV) 기준으로 한 수명 주기 비용 분석(LCC analysis) 또한 약간의 CAPEX 증가는 있지만 프로젝트 순 현재가치가 개선된 결과를 보여준다.

Numerical Simulation of the Water Temperature in the Al-Zour Area of Kuwait

  • The Al-Zour coastal area, located in southern Kuwait, is a region of concentrated industrial water use, seawater intake, and the outfall of existing power plants. The Al-Zour LNG import facility project is ongoing and there are two issues regarding the seawater temperature in this area that must be considered: variations in water temperature under local meteorology and an increase in water temperature due to the expansion of the thermal discharge of expanded power plant. MIKE 3 model was applied to simulate the water temperature from June to July, based on re-analysis data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the thermal discharge input from adjacent power plants. The annual water temperatures of two candidate locations of the seawater intake for the Al-Zour LNG re-gasification facility were measured in 2017 and compared to the numerical results. It was determined that the daily seawater temperature is mainly affected by thermal plume dispersion oscillating with the phase of the tidal currents. The regional meteorological conditions such as air temperature and tidal currents, also contributed a great deal to the prediction of seawater temperature.

선박 수리작업장의 표준공정 및 환경 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Standard Process and Environmental Analysis in Ship Repair Workshop)

  • It is expected that the global market for vessel repair and remodeling will grow up to the scale of about 25 billion dollars by 2023. Korea's shipbuilding industry is leading the world with its international competitiveness in design and production technology. The actual status of vessel repair industry, however, is poor as there are only two or three companies for vessel repair that can deal with large vessels in the area of Gyeongnam. The reason is that civil complaints are filed severely about environmental problems and environment-related regulations are so strict that it is fairly hard to get governmental approval for the operation of a vessel repair workplace. Domestic vessel repair companies mainly target small- and medium-sized vessels. There are only few workplaces that can carry out regular examination or repair work on large vessels such as LNG vessels, and due to the high price of vessel repair, most of the domestic repair work on large vessels including LNG vessels tends to be snatched by markets in Southeast Asia or China. Despite the tremendous domestic demand of Korea that has established the world's first shipbuilding industry and world's sixth biggest harbor infrastructure, its vessel repair industry can be said to be in very poor condition. In order to vitalize vessel repair industry, this study is aimed to analyze the environmental influence of vessel repair workplaces in Gyeongnam where vessel repair companies are concentrated and suggest standard processes by analyzing vessel repair processes precisely.

발전소의 대기오염물질 배출 예측 모델 개발 (Development of Predictive Model for Pollutants Emission from Power Plants)

  • From the power plant in a steel plant, environment pollutants such as $SO_x$, $NO_x$, CO and $CO_2$ are emitted by combustion reactions of the fuels which are by-product gases, oil and liquefied natural gas(LNG). To reduce the amounts of the pollutants, it is important to build a predictive model for the emission of the pollutants. In this paper, model that predict the amounts of generated pollutants for the used fuel is developed by using Gibbs free energy minimization method[1] with the temperature correction technique. For some data set, the calculation results from this model are compared with the real emission amounts of $SO_x$, $NO_x$, and the result of the calculation by both ASPEN PLUS which is a commercial simulation software. This model shows good results and can be applied to other power plants.

  • 엑서지의 개념을 이용하여 에너지변환시스템의 성능을 분석함으로써 시스템의 최적화의 시스템효율을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하였다. 복합화력 열병합 발전 시스템을 운전방식에 따라 3가지 시스템조합으로 구분하고 이에 대한 엑서지효율, 그리고 시스템조합의 각 흐름들에 대한 엑서지량과 엑서지 손실량을 계산하였다. 또한 이 양들에 대한 경제적 가치를 평가하고 엑서지 효율이 낮고 비용이 많이 드는 장치를 규명하여 써브시스템의 교체와 보수·유지에 대한 우선 순위를 결정하였다. 이러한 결과는 에너지 변환시스템의 효율향상과 경제적 운영을 위한 계획수립에 도움을 줄 수 있다.

Representing and constructing liquefaction cycle alternatives for FLNG FEED using system entity structure concepts

  • To support the procedure for determining an optimal liquefaction cycle for FLNG FEED, an ontological modeling method which can automatically generate various alternative liquefaction cycles were carried out in this paper. General rules in combining equipment are extracted from existing onshore liquefaction cycles like C3MR and DMR cycle. A generic relational model which represents whole relations of the plant elements has all these rules, and it is expressed by using the system entity structure (SES), an ontological framework that hierarchically represents the elements of a system and their relationships. By using a process called pruning which reduces the SES to a candidate, various alternative relational models of the liquefaction cycles can be automatically generated. These alternatives were provided by XML-based formats, and they can be used for choosing an optimal liquefaction cycle on the basis of the assessments such as process simulation and reliability analysis.

폴리이서설폰 중공사모듈을 이용한 연소배가스로부터 이산화탄소 분리회수를 위한 다단계 막분리공정 연구 (Multi-stage Membrane Process for $CO_2$ Separation from Flue Gas Using PES Hollow Fiber Membrane Modules)

  • 본 연구는 LNG를 연료로 하는 화력발전소의 보일러를 대상으로 여기에서 배출되는 $8\~15\%$ 내외의 이산화탄소 배가스 1,000 $Nm^3$/일로부터 이산화탄소를 회수율 $90\%$, 농도 $99\%$로 회수하기 위한 다단 막분리 공정을 설계 및 제작하기 위한 선행연구결과이다. 본 연구실에서 이산화탄소에 대한 가소화안정성 및 이산화탄소/질소의 분리특성이 탁월한 폴리이서술폰(PES)소재를 대상으로 비대칭구조의 중공사형 분리막 및 모듈이 개발되었다[1].. 개발된 중공사막을 대상으로 모듈의 투과현상을 전산모사 하였으며 이를 이용하여 막분리 공정의 최종 회수조건에 적합하게 하기 위해 재순환공정이 가능한 4단 막분리 공정을 전산모사 하였다. 설계된 다단계 막분리 공정의 타당성을 입증하기 위해 개발된 중공사막모듈을 대상으로 설계된 운전 압력(공급측의 압력 및 투과측의 압력)과 공급 농도의 변화에 따른 막분리 공정의 투과량 및 농도를 조사하였다. 얻어진 결과를 공정모사를 통하여 계산된 결과를 비교한 결과 운전조건에 따른 유량, 순도, 막 면적 등에서 이론치와 실험치가 매우 잘 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다.

탄소세 변화에 따른 IGCC와 이산화탄소 저감기술 진입경쟁력 및 온실가스 저감효과 분석 (A Study on Competitiveness and GHG Mitigation Effect of IGCC and Carbon Capture Technology According to Carbon Tax Change)

  • 2005년 2월 16일 발효된 교토의정서 체제에서 부속서 I 에 포함된 선진국들은 온실가스에 대하여 2008년부터 2012년까지 연간 1990년 대비 년 평균 5.2%를 감축하도록 목표량을 규정하였다. 이러한 목표량을 달성하기 위하여 EU등의 국가는 배출권 거래제도 및 청정개발체제(CDM)사업 등 온실가스를 저감하기 위하여 힘쓰고 있다. 교토-의정서 1차 공약기간 중에서 온실가스 감축목표를 부여받지 않은 OECD국가는 우리나라와 멕시코 두 나라 뿐이며, 이산화탄소 배출량 9위인 우리나라에 2차 공약기간(2013년$\sim$2017년)부터 의무저감에 대한 국제적 압력이 가중되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 탄소세를 변화시키면서 발전소 건설의 변화와 그에 따른 $CO_2$ 저감량을 계산하고, 시나리오 별 석탄가스화복합발전(Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle; IGCC)과 $CO_2$ 저감장치 설치 발전소의 진입경쟁에 대하여 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 탄소세가 증가하더라도 원자력발전소의 건설이 무조건 증가하는 것이 아니라 일정한 비율만을 차지하고, 석탄화력발전소의 감소비중을 LNG 복합화력이 차지하는 것을 알 수 있었으며, IGCC와 같은 대안 기술이 존재한다면 석탄화력의 감소비중의 일부를 차지한다.

복합발전플랜트 내의 가스 화재 거동에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Study of Fire Behavior Induced by Gas Leakage in Combined Cycle Power Plant)

  • To date, the demand for Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) has been continuously increased to overcome the problem of air pollution and lack of energy. In particular, the underground CCPP is exposed to substantial fire and explosion risks induced by gas leakage. The present study conducted numerical simulations to examine the fire behavior and gas leakage characteristics for a restricted region including gas turbine and other components used in a typical CCPP system. The commercial code of FLUENT V.14 was used for simulation. From the results, it was found that flammable limit distribution of leakage gas affects fire behavior. Especially, the flame is propagated in an instant in restricted region with LNG gas. In addition, consequence analysis factors such as critical temperature and radiation heat flux are introduced. These results would be useful in making the safety guidelines for the underground CCPP.
