BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the combined effect of low-level laser treatment (LLLT) and recombinant human bone morphological protein-2 (rhBMP-2) applied to hypoxic-cultured MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cells and to determine possible signaling pathways underlying differentiation and mineralization of osteoblasts under hypoxia. METHODS: MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured under 1% oxygen tension for 72 h. Cell cultures were divided into four groups: normoxia control, low-level laser (LLL) alone, rhBMP-2 combined with LLLT, and rhBMP-2 under hypoxia. Laser irradiation was applied at 0, 24, and 48 h. Cells were treated with rhBMP-2 at 50 ng/mL. Alkaline phosphatase activity was measured at 3, 7, and 14 days to evaluate osteoblastic differentiation. Cell mineralization was determined with Alizarin red S staining at 7 and 14 days. Western blot assays were performed to evaluate whether p38/protein kinase D (PKD) signaling was involved. RESULTS: The results indicate that LLLT and rhBMP-2 synergistically increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and mineralization. Western blot analyses showed that expression of type I collagen, runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), and Osterix (Osx), increased and expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha ($HIF-1{\alpha}$), decreased more in the LLLT and rhBMP-2 combined group than in the rhBMP-2 or LLL alone groups. Moreover, LLLT and rhBMP-2 stimulated p38 phosphorylation and rhBMP-2 and LLLT increased Prkd1 phosphorylation. CONCLUSION: Combined treatment with rhBMP-2 and LLL induced differentiation and mineralization of hypoxic-cultured MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts by activating p38/PKD signaling in vitro.
Triglyceride molecular species In some vegetable oils were analyzed by capillary column gas chromatography and electron impact ionization mass spectrometry utilizing selected ion monitoring. Triglycerides were separated according to their molecular weights and their degrees of unsaturation on $25m{\times}0.25mm$ fused silica open tubular capillary column coated with a phenylmethylsilicone gum stationary phase and in an analysis time less than 13 min. Triglyceride molecular species were identified by analyzing the fragment ions having the same time on the selected ion monitoring profile . The major triglyceride molecular species in each oils were $C_{18:1}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(OLL:18.3%),\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(LLL;\;14.3%),\;C_{18:0}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(SLL;\;14.1%),\;C_{16:0}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(PLL;\;13.2%),\;C_{16:0}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:1}(PLO;\;11.6%)$ in corn oil, $C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(LLL;\;18.0%),\;C_{18:1}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(OLL;\;18.0%),\;C_{16:0}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(PLL;\;17.1%)$ in safflower oil, $C_{16:0}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(PLL;\;23.5%),\;C_{16:0}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:1}(PLO;\;13.8%),\;C_{18:0}.\;C_{18:1}.\;C_{18:1}(SOO;\;13.5%),\;C_{18:1}.\;C_{18:2}.\;C_{18:2}(OLL;\;10.6%)$ in cottonseed oil.
Epitaxial ultrathin films of $CoSi_2$ and double heteroepitaxial structure of Si/$CoSi_2$/Si(lll) were prepared on Si(111)-$7\times{7}$ substrate by in situ solid-phase epitaxy in a ultrahigh vacuum(LHV). The phase, chemical composition, crystallinity, and the microsructure of the Si/$CoSi_2$/Si(lll) interface were investigated by 2-MeV $^4He^{++}$ ion backscattering spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The growth mode of the Co film was the Stransky-Krastanov type with texture when the substrate temperature was room temperature. A-type $CoSi_2$ ultrathin film was grown by deposition of about 50A Co on Si(ll1)-$7\times{7}$ substrate followed by in situ annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The matching face relationships were $CoSi_2$[110]//Si[110] and $CoSi_2$(002)//Si(002) with no misorientation angle. The A-type $CoSi_2$/Si(lll) interface was abrupt and coherent. The best epi-Si/epi-$CoSi_2$2(A-type)/Si(lll) structure was obtained by deposition of Si film on the CoSii at $500^{\circ}C$ followed by in situ annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 min in UHV.
Interactions between proteins and genes are often considered essential in the description of biomolecular phenomena and networks of interactions are considered as an entre for a Systems Biology approach. Recently, many works try to extract information by analyzing biomolecular text using natural language processing technology. Previous researches insist that linguistic information is useful to improve the performance in detecting gene interactions. However, previous systems do not show reasonable performance because of low recall. To improve recall without sacrificing precision, this paper proposes a new method for detection of gene interactions based on syntactic relations. Without biomolecular knowledge, our method shows reasonable performance using only small size of training data. Using the format of LLL05(ICML05 Workshop on Learning Language in Logic) data we detect the agent gene and its target gene that interact with each other. In the 1st phase, we detect encapsulation types for each agent and target candidate. In the 2nd phase, we construct verb lists that indicate the interaction information between two genes. In the last phase, to detect which of two genes is an agent or a target, we learn direction information. In the experimental results using LLL05 data, our proposed method showed F-measure of 88% for training data, and 70.4% for test data. This performance significantly outperformed previous methods. We also describe the contribution rate of each phase to the performance, and demonstrate that the first phase contributes to the improvement of recall and the second and last phases contribute to the improvement of precision.
The carbinols, hydrazide, Schiff's bases and acryloyl derivatives of 2-thiobenzethiazole were prepared. The acid and nitrile of 20thiobenzothiazole were also obtained. The derivatives were tested for their antibacterial activities. Some derivatives showed the highest antifungal and activity.

From the results of triglyceride composition and the fatty acid at ${\beta}-position$ of glycerol, triglyceride molecular species of sunflower seed oil were found to be 26 kinds. The major triglyceride molecular species in sunflower seed oil were identified to PLL; 10.4%, OLL; 22.3%, and characterized that LLL species existed more than 31% of the total triglyceride molecular specie.
Xylenol Orange was bonded on an anion-exchange resin (Amberlite lRA 400, in $Cl^-$form) by batch equilibration. The resin was proved to be stable in acidic solutions of about 0.1 M HCl, $HNO_3$ or $H_2SO_4$. Sorption capacities for the metal ions on the Amberlite IRA 400 bonded with xylenol orange have been measured by batch method. The result showed that Fe(III) is higher than any other metals for sorption capacity. The preconcentration and the separation of Fe(lll) from the mixture soIution, therefore, were carried out with the 0.1 M sulfosalicylic acid as an eluent.
When GaAs single crystals are grown by LEC method, a serious problem is that longitudinal twins are often generated. the growth axis is changed from (100) to (221) direction by logitudinal twin. In this experiment, 3 inch GaAs single crystals, slaving (100) uonh axis, were von by LEC method. Striations and edge facets generated during crystal growth, were observed by SPW photo-etching. Relationship between striations and edge facets was studied. Instability of their generation was the cause of goneration of longitudinal twins. The shape of striations was changed with the growth conditions such as crystal diameter and melt volume. In the region of crystal edge: there was the microscopic fluctuation by the instability of melt convection. Edge facets consisting of {111} plane developed well in the region which striation were convex to the melt. Because the angle between striation and {111} edge facet decreased in that region. Longitudinal twins were generated on the crystal surface at the <111> direction which is perpendicular to the growth axis. These were generated by unstable melt convection and propagated in the crystal as crystal grew. Longitudinal twins were generated when regrowth rate was very fast after {111} edge facets were remelted. So, in order to supress the generation of longitudinal twin, abrupt change of melt convection must be prohibited.
The purpose of this study was to establish Korean norms that will be valuable aids for diagnosis in orthognathic surgery patients. Lateral cephalometric measurements were established for adult Koreans (60 males, 62 females) with normal occlusion and acceptable profiles. The results were as follows: 1. Means, standard deviation and sexual differentiation were included within each measurement. 2. In skeletal measurements, FH to SN and SN to mandibular plane measurements in females were larger than those in males while all linear measurements in males were larger than those in males were larger than those in females. 3. Significant differences were observed between male and female groups on all of the items that showed vertical relationship in dental measurements. And the measurements of ADH, PDH and overbite in males were larger than those in females while the measurements of incisor exposure in females were larger than those in males. 4. In all measurements of soft tissue except NLA, that is, of FCA, UFH, ULL and LLL, males were larger than those in females.
