  • Let $C_1(X)$ be a normed linear space over ${\mathbb{R}}^m$, and S be an n-dimensional subspace of $C_1(X)$ with spaned by {$s_1,{\cdots},s_n$}. For each ${\ell}$- tuple vectors F in $C_1(X)$, the two-sided best simultaneous approximation problem is $$\min_{s{\in}S}\;\max\limits_{i=1}^\ell\{{\parallel}f_i-s{\parallel}_1\}$$. A $s{\in}S$ attaining the above minimum is called a two-sided best simultaneous approximation or a Chebyshev center for $F=\{f_1,{\cdots},f_{\ell}\}$ from S. This paper is concerned with algorithm for calculating two-sided best simultaneous approximation, in the case of continuous functions.

  • By analyzing the structure of the currently used Lead Tab tape structure, the outermost layer, low-temperature fusion functionalized olefin, was composed of pp base. To determine whether this could be used as the outermost layer of tab tape, the adhesive strength to metal foils such as copper and aluminum was measured and the adhesive strength was compared with commercially available functionalized olefin. When chlorine was grafted onto PP among the PP used in the composition, the average adhesive strength was similar to that of commercially available LT200T and superior to RE140R and LE320V. The maximum adhesive strength exceeded that of LE200T. When it comes to solvents, xylene has been shown to be better than any other. Physical methods such as substitution of other monomers, switching of additives or let-down hardly changed the adhesion of grafted PP, and the selection of PP is an important factor in preparing functional polymers.

  • Let G be an infinite countable group and A be a finite set. If Σ ⊆ AG is a strongly irreducible subshift of finite type and 𝓖 is the local conjugacy equivalence relation on Σ. We construct a decreasing sequence 𝓡 of unital C*-subalgebras of C(Σ) and a sequence of faithful conditional expectations E defined on C(Σ), and obtain a Toeplitz algebra 𝓣 (𝓡, 𝓔) and a C*-algebra C*(𝓡, 𝓔) for the pair (𝓡, 𝓔). We show that C*(𝓡, 𝓔) is *-isomorphic to the reduced groupoid C*-algebra C*r(𝓖).

  • Recently, spectral efficiency or reliability is required to be improved in the scenario of multiple access. In this paper, we consider a scenario where two source nodes access one destination node. Different with conventional multiple access studies, in our research, a part of the allocated resource is shared by two source nodes and this scheme is called partial multiplexing. Let $R_s$ denote the ratio of the amount of the shared resource to that of the resource allocated to each user. We analyze and optimize the performance of the partial multiplexing in term of $R_s$. We show that the optimal $R_s$ to maximize the throughput is 1 or 0 based on approximated bit error rate (BER). In addition, if we set a constraint on frame error rate (FER), $R_s$ can have a value between 0 and 1. We also find the approximated $R_s$ to meet the constraint as a closed form. Partial multiplexing can be a novel multiple access scheme.

  • In this paper, results of produced PCU(Power Control Unit) prototype was showed by suggesting and maintaining optimal operation status which let the three functional modules automatically operate with its necessity by prioritizing operation process. In order to validate effectiveness of the suggested method, we produced a test PCU and examined the results. PCU consists of S3R(Sequential Switching Shunt Regulator), BCR(Battery Charge Regulator), and BDR(Battery Discharge Regulator): converting photovoltaic power into constant voltage at linked bus voltage; storing dump power in the battery which is an auxiliary energy storage device; and supplying power charged in battery to the load. To maintain its high reliability and optimal condition of these three power conversion modules, each module operates in parallel and stable bus voltage is required to be retained at all-time due to the nature of power supply for satellite.

  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate expression of mRNAs in many biological pathways. Liver plays an important role in the feed efficiency of animals and high and low efficient cattle demonstrated different gene expression profiles by microarray. Here we report comprehensive miRNAs profiles by next-gen deep sequencing in Angus cattle divergently selected for residual feed intake (RFI) and identify miRNAs related to feed efficiency in beef cattle. Two microRNA libraries were constructed from pooled RNA extracted from livers of low and high RFI cattle, and sequenced by Illumina genome analyser. In total, 23,628,103 high quality short sequence reads were obtained and more than half of these reads were matched to the bovine genome (UMD 3.1). We identified 305 known bovine miRNAs. Bta-miR-143, bta-miR-30, bta-miR-122, bta-miR-378, and bta-let-7 were the top five most abundant miRNAs families expressed in liver, representing more than 63% of expressed miRNAs. We also identified 52 homologous miRNAs and 10 novel putative bovine-specific miRNAs, based on precursor sequence and the secondary structure and utilizing the miRBase (v. 21). We compared the miRNAs profile between high and low RFI animals and ranked the most differentially expressed bovine known miRNAs. Bovine miR-143 was the most abundant miRNA in the bovine liver and comprised 20% of total expressed mapped miRNAs. The most highly expressed miRNA in liver of mice and humans, miR-122, was the third most abundant in our cattle liver samples. We also identified 10 putative novel bovine-specific miRNA candidates. Differentially expressed miRNAs between high and low RFI cattle were identified with 18 miRNAs being up-regulated and 7 other miRNAs down-regulated in low RFI cattle. Our study has identified comprehensive miRNAs expressed in bovine liver. Some of the expressed miRNAs are novel in cattle. The differentially expressed miRNAs between high and low RFI give some insights into liver miRNAs regulating physiological pathways underlying variation in this measure of feed efficiency in bovines.

  • Recently, various efforts for the extended utilization of woody biomass has been attempted due to the fact that global warming, energy and environmental problems are urgent ones to be solved. Development of new energy sources at our national security level is desperately needed as we depend on almost all of energies supplied from other countries, let alone the economic crisis caused by oil price hike. Woody biomass can be converted to energy by means of thermochemical, biological, or direct combustion processes. Many processes are available for producing bioenergy, such as bioethanol, wood pellet, wood chip, combined heat, and power system. Political support and R&D investment should be provided that can boost the utilization of the wood biomass, the eco-environment, and recyclable and alternative energy resources for national power security. In addition, a long-term strategy that can utilize unused and low efficient woody biomass resources, and systematically collect and manage them in a national level should be set up. Even though the possibility in total exchange of fossil oil with woody biomass is quite low, technology developments of woody biomass for the solution to global warming and environmental problem through its commercialization are expected to grow steadily.

  • Let M be a connected n-dimensional submanifold of a Euclidean space $E^{n+k}$ equipped with the induced metric and ${\Delta}$ its Laplacian. If the position vector x of M is decomposed as a sum of three vectors $x=x_1+x_2+x_0$ where two vectors $x_1$ and $x_2$ are non-constant eigen vectors of the Laplacian, i.e., ${\Delta}x_i={\lambda}_ix_i$, i = 1, 2 (${\lambda}_i{\in}R$) and $x_0$ is a constant vector, then, M is called a 2-type submanifold. In this paper we showed that a 2-type surface M in $E^3$ satisfies ${\langle}{\Delta}x,x-x_0{\rangle}=c$ for a constant c, where ${\langle},{\rangle}$ is the usual inner product in $E^3$, then M is an open part of a circular cylinder. Also we showed that if a quadric hypersurface M in a Euclidean space satisfies ${\langle}{\Delta}x,x{\rangle}=c$ for a constant c, then it is one of a minimal quadric hypersurface, a genaralized cone, a hypersphere, and a spherical cylinder.

  • Digital technology has been changing everyday life of ordinary people let alone the structure of world industry. The elderly care service is also going through changes influenced by the unavoidable impact from torrents of digital technologies. There are numerous reports and news about the digital technologies increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of care service yet lacking systematic understanding of the sources of such improvement. This study aims to present a new classification framework for digital elderly care service innovation to fully utilize the power of digital technologies drawing on insights from innovation studies and service studies. First, 4 features of digital technologies are identified as sources of new value in service innovation. The co-creation of value by users and producers in service and technology development is discussed to illuminate users' contributions to service innovation. Communication of needs and ideas with producers and application of new technologies into everyday practice of life are identified as the source of new value which can be attributed to the elderly. Customization along with efficiency gains is the key to digital elderly care service innovation. The classification framework, thus, incorporates the needs of the elderly as one axis of criteria in the conventional technology-centered framework. The new classification framework would help give due weight to user-driven or demand-driven innovation in the elderly care service R&D activities.
