Optoelectronic Properties Enhanced by Photodynamic Patterning of Azo Polymers

  • Azobenzene functionalized polymers have been extensively investigated due to the potential applications in the areas of optical switching, optical elements, optical information storage, and nonlinear optics. These applications are mainly achievable due to photoinduced properties of azobenzene groups with photoisomerization and photoinduced anisotropy. We report applications to the optoelectronic devices using inscribed one-(1D) and two-dimensional (2D) SRGs on azo polymer films. The inscribed holographic SRGs patterns were useful to control or enhance optoelectronic properties such as transparent electrode patterning, hybrid solar cell and ultraviolet GaN-based LED.

Temperature Dependence of Efficiency Droop in GaN-based Blue Light-emitting Diodes from 20 to 80℃

  • We investigate the temperature dependence of efficiency droop in InGaN/GaN multiple-quantum-well (MQW) blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in the temperature range from 20 to $80^{\circ}C$. When the external quantum efficiency (EQE) and the wall-plug efficiency (WPE) of the LED sample were measured as injection current and temperature varied, the droop of EQE and WPE was found to be reduced with increasing temperature. As the temperature increased from 20 to $80^{\circ}C$, the droop ratio of EQE was decreased from 16% to 14%. This reduction in efficiency droop with temperature can be interpreted by a temperature-dependent carrier distribution in the MQWs. When the carrier distribution and radiative recombination rate in MQWs were simulated and compared for different temperatures, the carrier distribution was found to become increasingly homogeneous as the temperature increased, which is believed to partly contribute to the reduction in efficiency droop with increasing temperature.

Performance Evaluation of Underwater Optical Wireless Communication Depending on the Modulation Scheme

  • Underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) is a good candidate for high-speed underwater wireless communication. In this work, we compare the performance of several modulation techniques for a UOWC system consisting of a light-emitting diode (LED) with an operating wavelength of 405 nm and a Si avalanche photodiode (APD). In this work, we consider six modulation schemes: 4-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), 8-QAM, quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), binary phase shift keying (BPSK), on-off keying (OOK), and 4-pulse amplitude modulation (PAM). We also consider the cases of pure water and seawater for the working conditions. Our results show that 4-QAM and 8-QAM perform the best, in terms of communication distance and transmission power efficiency, for all water types considered.

High-performance TDM-MIMO-VLC Using RGB LEDs in Indoor Multiuser Environments

  • A high-performance time-division multiplexing (TDM) -based multiuser (MU) multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) system for efficient indoor visible-light communication (VLC) is presented. In this work, a MIMO technique based on RGB light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with selection combining (SC) is utilized for data transmission. That is, the proposed scheme employs RGB LEDs for parallel transmission of user data and transmits MU data in predefined slots of a time frame with a simple and efficient design, to schedule the transmission times for multiple users. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme offers an approximately 6 dB gain in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at a bit error rate (BER) of $3{\times}10^{-5}$, as compared to conventional MU single-input single-output (SISO) systems. Moreover, a data rate of 66.7 Mbps/user at a BER of $10^{-3}$ is achieved for 10 users in indoor VLC environments.

Interference and noise analysis for hybrid FSO/RF-based 6G mobile backhaul

  • Optical wireless communication, or free space optics, is a promising solution for backhauls in sixth-generation mobile systems. However, the susceptibility of optical links to weather conditions has led to FSO links being furnished with radio frequency (RF) backups. These Hybrid FSO/RF systems provide enhanced link availability but lead to RF resource wastage. Cognitive radio technology, in contrast, is well known for its optimal use of RF resources and may be combined with an FSO link to create a Cognitive Hybrid FSO/RF system. This work uses such a system to analyze a configuration for a mobile backhaul in sixth-generation mobile systems. This configuration can seamlessly coexist with established large scale RF cellular networks. The performance of this configuration is analyzed with respect to outage probability and average bit error by considering the impact of optical channel turbulence, misalignment loss, RF interference, and noise. Mathematical closed-form expressions are verified by simulations.

효율적인 라인램프를 위한 발광다이오드-광섬유 결합기의 설계 및 해석 (Design and Analysis of LED.Optical Fiber Coupler for Efficient Line Lamps)

  • 플라스틱 광섬유의 주기적인 bending을 이용한 누설광섬유에 기반을 둔 라인램프를 제안하고, 그 핵심요소로서 높은 광결합효율을 갖는 LED-광섬유 결합기를 설계 및 해석하였다. Monte Carlo photon simulation 기법을 이용하여 해석한 결과, 결합기의 광결합효율은 반사컵 옆면의 기울기각 $\theta_w$와 반사컵의 반사도 $\rho_{ref}$에 대해 상대적으로 민감하게 영향을 받는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 광결합효율은 $\theta_w=60^{\circ}C$ 근처에서 최대가 되었는데, 이 값은 일반적인 LED 램프에서 흔히 사용하는 반사컵 옆면의 기울기각 $\theta_w=45^{\circ}$보다 상당히 큰 값이다. 그리고 반사컵의 반사도 $\rho_{ref}$가 0.8정도 이상이 되면, 광결합효율은 보통의 LD-광섬유 결합기에서 얻을 수 있는 광결합효율인 80% 정도를 뛰어 넘었다.

안경용 순티타늄 wire 제조 공정개발 (Development of Manufacturing Process of Pure Titanium Wire to make Eyewear Frame)

  • 직경 400mm 순티타늄 잉고트(Gr2)를 제작하고 성분 분석한 결과 산소함량이 0.073wt%이고 철함량이 0.03wt%로서 ASTM Gr.2 규격을 만족하였다. 이들을 가공하여 42mm 선재를 만들고 18단 열간 압연하여 9mm 선재를 만들었다. 10단 열간 가공한 15.8mm 선재를 표면에서 부터 중심부로 가면서 경도 분석한 결과 Hv150~200로서 거의 일정한 값을 나타내고 있었다. 최종 9mm 선재는 열간 압연기에 인입시 온도에 따라 항복강도와 연신율은 달랐지만 인장강도는 근사한 값을 나타내었으며 모두 ASTM B863규격을 만족하였다.

  • 본 논문은 광원 및 디스플레이 기기의 중요한 품질 지표 중 하나인 색특성 측정과 관련하여 대표적인 측정량인 CIE 1931(x, y) 색좌표, CIE 1960(u, v) 색좌표, 상관색온도(correlated color temperature, CCT), 분포온도(distribution temperature)에 대한 측정불확도 평가방법과 그 산출 예를 소개한다. 분광복사계를 사용하여 광원의 상대분광분포를 측정하고 이로부터 위의 색특성 측정량을 계산하는 경우에 대하여 표준소급체계를 소개하고, 상대분광분포의 불확도가 각 색특성 측정량의 불확도로 전파되는 과정을 파장간 상관관계를 고려한 행렬식을 이용하여 일관되게 유도한 후, CIE A 표준광원, LED 백색광, LCD 백색광에 대해 측정불확도 산출 예를 보였다.

Transition-based Data Decoding for Optical Camera Communications Using a Rolling Shutter Camera

  • Rolling shutter operation of CMOS cameras can be utilized in optical camera communications in order to transmit data from an LED to mobile devices such as smart-phones. From temporally modulated light, a spatial flicker pattern is obtained in the captured image, and this is used for signal recovery. Due to the degradation of rolling shutter images caused by light smear, motion blur, and focus blur, the conventional decoding schemes for rolling shutter cameras based on the pattern width for 'OFF' and 'ON' cannot guarantee robust communications performance for practical uses. Aside from conventional techniques, such as polynomial fitting, histogram equalization can be used for blurry light mitigation, but it requires additional computation abilities resulting in burdens on mobile devices. This paper proposes a transition-based decoding scheme for rolling shutter cameras in order to offer simple and robust data decoding in the presence of image degradation. Based on the designed synchronization pulse and modulated data symbols according to the LED dimming level, the decoding process is conducted by observing the transition patterns of two sequential symbol pulses. For this, the extended symbol pulse caused by consecutive symbol pulses with the same level determines whether the second pulse should be included for the next bit decoding or not. The proposed method simply identifies the transition patterns of sequential symbol pulses other than the pattern width of 'OFF' and 'ON' for data decoding, and thus, it is simpler and more accurate. Experimental results ensured that the transition-based decoding scheme is robust even in the presence of blurry lights in the captured image at various dimming levels

  • 노광기는 회로 패턴을 원하는 위치에 전사시켜주는 장비로 패턴을 광학적 특성의 변형 없이 기재 상에 나타내기 위해서는 노광광학계의 특성이 매우 중요하다. 따라서 미세회로 패턴을 형성하기 위해서는 조사 면적에 작은 발산각으로 입사되어야 한다. 또한, 광원에서 나온 빛이 감광제와 균일하게 반응해야 하기 때문에 높은 광효율과 조도 균일도를 가져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 협각 구현의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 방법으로 반사형 타입인 파라볼라 반사경과 비구면 렌즈 설계를 진행하였고, 배열 후 시뮬레이션 분석 결과 광속 각도, 균일도, 최대조도가 목표 성능을 만족하는 것을 확인하였다.
