We performed a comparative analysis using a Real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and LC/MS (Liquid-Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer) method in order to detect microcystin in environmental sources. Among the three different primer sets tested for microcystin using three positive strains of Microcystis aeruginosa by Real-time PCR assay, only TOX2P/TOX2M primer pairs were able to detect Microcystis aeruginosa. According to the results of a survey carried out from June 2009 to September 2009, 11 out of 11 (100%) raw water samples were were found to have microcystin when the Real-Time PCR and LC/MS method was used, with total microcystin concentration ranging from 5.98~219.0 ${\mu}g/l$. A microcystin removal treatment process was used to ensure entire removal, by passing it through a BAC filtration step. It was concluded that real-time PCR assay can be used to estimate micrucystin detection more rapidly and easily than the LC/MS method.

The purpose of this study is to understand the direction of the community reading campaign in the U.S.A. known as 'One Book, One City' reflected in the books selected for this campaign for the past 20 years in terms of their classification numbers, subject headings, publication dates, and genres. Analyzed are the author and state lists of 'One Book, One City' Reading Promotions Projects available from the website of the LC (Library of Congress) Center for the Books, and bibliographic records of 735 books selected in only one 'One Book' program, accessed from LC OPAC. Major findings include continuing influences of the all-time favorite 'One Book' selections, including To Kill a Mockingbird and the extension of their span of life through The Big Read, preference for the recent publications, importance of P (Literatures and Languages) Class (530 titles, 72.1%) and PS(American Literatures) subclass (307 titles, 57.9%) in the LC Classification Scheme, distribution of books in 43 genres, including domestic fiction, historical fiction, and psychological fiction, etc., the use of 535 unique LC subject headings and much interests in "City and town life" (10 titles) and "World War, 1939-1945" (8 titles), and prominence of subject groups which begin with "African American..." and "Woman..." out of 96 groups of subject headings. It is found that the subjects and focus of the selected books expand from integration, understanding, integrity to human rights, environment, peace, etc. The limitations of this study is that the influence of the selected books and the changes in communities are not properly analyed.
Lidocaine has been studied for many chronic pain conditions, including postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) and recently it has also been increasingly used in transdermal drug delivery systems. In this study, pharmacokinetics of a lidocaine patch was studied in four hairless male rats. The plasma concentration was determined by a validated LC/MS/MS method after applying a $3{\times}2cm^2$ (30mg) patch for 12 hours. From the plasma lidocaine concentration vs time curves, $AUC_{0-20h}$, Cmax, and Tmax of lidocaine patch were $2,926.32{\pm}335.28ng{\cdot}h/ml$, $256.86{\pm}29.63ng/ml$, and $6.00{\pm}2.31h$, respectively.
We investigated the interaction of auxin and Ca2+ on coleoptile segment elongation in seedlings of Zea mays L. Seedlings imbibed and raised either in the presence of 10 mM CaCl2 (HC), or in the absence of Ca2+ (LC) were used. Exposure to 10-5M auxin of coleoptiles from either HC or LC seedlings resulted in strong promotion of elongation. However, longer latent period (90 min) of the auxin effect was observed in HC than in LC seedlings (20 min). The length of latent period observed in HC coleoptiles was proportional to the concentration of CaCl2. The latent period of auxin effect observed in HC seedlings was abolished by pretreatment of the coleoptiles with TMB-8 which inhibits IP3-induced Ca2+ release from the tonoplasts. In segments of LC seedlings, the promotive effect of IAA (10-5M) was abolished by treatment with 5 mM calcium but was reversible upon treatment of the segments with 5 mM EGTA. These results suggest that the effect of auxin on coleoptile elongation is closely related to intracellular Ca2+ level.

The effects of PCB Board on the filter characteristics such as insertion loss and transmission characteristics were investigated for the measurement of 5GHz LC filter. Insertion loss measured with PCB Board of Teflon is 0.3 dB lower in comparion with FR-4. The filter characteristics measured in the passband were different from the calculated results. In comparison with the calculated value, the measured value shows that center frequency is 20MHz lower, passband is narrower and insertion loss is larger. The difference of Insertion loss between Teflon and FR-4 increases with increasing measurement frequency.
Effects of sublethal dose of imidacloprid on biological characteristics, such as longevity, fecundity and excretions from brown planthopper (BPH) and its repellency to imidacloprid were examined. Topical application of imidacloprid to BPH at the dose of $LD_{10}$ and $LD_{30}$ (These values were determined at 48 hours after topical application of imidacloprid) was remarkably increased the mortality from 3 days after application and showed over 90% mortality on 4 days after application. Topical application of imidacloprid at dose of $LD_{10}$ (16 days) showed no difference compared to the control (16.9 days) in the longevity, while application of $LD_{30}$ was reduced the longevity of BPH to 13.5 days. Application of sublethal dose of imidacloprid to BPH adults reduced the number of eggs laid per day and for adult stage, and the hatchability of their eggs. By root zone application at the dose of $LC_{30}$, 50% longevity and 40% fecundity was reduced respectively, but showed no effect on number of eggs laid per day. The day on which BPH laid 50 % of eggs in number were 7.6 days at the $LC_{10}$ and 5.9 days the of $LC_{30}$ respectively. Hatchabilities of the groups treated with imidacloprid were lower than that of the control. Topical application to BPH at the dose of $LD_{10}$ did not reduce the amount of excretes, but application at the dose of $LD_{30}$ was reduced 26.5% of excretion compared to the control. Leaf dipping into the solution of concentration of $LC_{10}$ and $LC_{30}$ was reduced 96.4% and 98.0% of excretion, respectively. And root zone treatment at the concentration of $LC_{10}$ and $LC_{30}$ reduced 79.5% and 96.6% of excretion, respectively. Repellency rates of BPH to imidacloprid were 20% regardless of the dose of application.

GLP-1-based drugs (GLP-1 analogues and DPP IV inhibitors) and incretin mimetics are currently one of the most exciting classes of agents for type II diabetes. GLP-1, a gut peptide, is an incretin that potentiates glucose-dependent insulin release from the pancreas, slows GI-transit and stimulates the proliferation of beta-cells. DPP IV inhibitors act like incretins by inhibiting DPP IV which inactivates GLP-1. LC15-0133 is a competitive, reversible DPP IV inhibitor ($IC_{50}$ = 24 nM, Ki=0.247 nM) with excellent selectivity over other critical human proteases such as DPP II, DPP 8, elastase, trypsin. and urokinase. LC15-0133 showed long half-life and good bioavailability in rats and dogs. Inhibition of plasma DPP IV activity by LC15-0133 was kept more than 50% 24 hours after oral dosing in rats and dogs at 0.1 mg/kg and 0.02 mg/kg, respectively. The Minimum effective doses of LC15-0133 were 0.01 mg/kg for lowering blood glucose excursion during oral glucose tolerance test and 0.1 mg/kg for increasing glucose-induced GLP-1 response in C57BL/6 mice. Repeat oral administration of LC15-0133 for 1 month delayed the progression to diabetes and reduced HbA1c levels in a dose-dependent manner in Zucker Diabetic Fatty rats. In conclusion, LC15-0133 is a novel, potent, selective and orally active DPP IV inhibitor and showed an excellent blood glucose lowering effects in various animal models.
Ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) has been used as traditional herbal drug in Asian countries. Ginsenosides are major components having pharmacological and biological efficacy like anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-tumor effects. To control the quality of the components in diverse ginseng products, we developed a new quantitative method using LC-MS/MS for 13 ginsenosides; Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd, Re, Rf, 20(S)-Rh1, 20(S)-Rh2, Rg1, 20(S)-Rg3, F1, F2, and compound K. This method was successfully validated for linearity, precision, and accuracy. This quantification method applied in four representative ginseng products; fresh ginseng powder, white ginseng powder, red ginseng extract powder, and red ginseng extract. Here the amounts of the 13 ginsenosides in the various type of ginseng samples could be analyzed simultaneously and expected to be suitable for quality control of ginseng products.

The gold (LC-AuNPs) and silver (LC-AgNPs) nanoparticles were rapidly synthesized by fruit extract of Lycium chinense within 1.15 and 25 min respectively in an eco-friendly way. The synthesized nanoparticles confirmed by relevant surface plasmon resonance peaks for gold and silver nanoparticles at 536 and 480 nm, respectively. FE-TEM results revealed that LC-AuNPs were 20-50 nm and LC-AgNPs were 50-100 nm. The maximum distribution of gold, silver elements and the crystallographic nature of synthesized were confirmed using EDX, elemental mapping and XRD. LC-AgNPs showed inhibitory activity against pathogenic microorganisms such as E. coli and S. aureus, whereas LC-AuNPs did not show inhibitory activity. The LC-AgNps nanoparticles exhibited significant cytotoxicity to human breast cancer MCF7 cell line and less cytotoxicity to non-diseased RAW264.7 (murine macrophage) cells whereas LC-AuNps showed minimal toxicity to both cell lines. In-depth research on this rapid, facile and greenery nanoparticles may play a potential role in biomedical applications.

New classes of LC resonators for micro magnetic sensor device were proposed and fabricated. The first type LC resonator (Type I) consists of a small piece of microwire and two cylindrical electrodes at the end of the microwire without direct contact to its ferromagnetic core. In type I resonator the ferromagnetic core of the microwire and cylindrical electrodes act as an inductor and two capacitors respectively to form a LC circuit. The second type LC resonator (Type II) consists of a solenoidal micro-inductor with a bundle of soft magnetic microwires as a core. The solenoidal micro-inductors fabricated by MEMS technique were $500\sim1,000\;\mu{m}$ in length with $10\sim20$ turns. A capacitor is connected in parallel to the micro-inductor to form a LC circuit. A tiny glass coated $CO_{83.2}B_{3.3}Si_{5.9}Mn_{7.6}$ microwire was fabricated by a glass-coated melt spinning technique. A supergiant magneto-impedance effect was found in a type I resonator as much as 400,000% by precise tuning frequency at around 518.51 MHz. In type II resonator the changes of inductance as a function of external magnetic field in micro-inductors with properly annealed microwire cores were varied as much as 370%. The phase angle between current and voltage was also strongly dependent on the magnetic field. The drastic increments of magnetoimpedance at near the resonance frequency were observed in both types of LC resonators. Accordingly, the sudden change of the phase angle, as large as $180^{\circ}C$, evidenced the occurrence of the resonance at a given external magnetic field.
