  • Human Thioredoxin (TRX) with with redox-active dithiol (C-C-Y-C-) in the active site has been cloned as adult T cell leukemia derived factor produced by HTLV-I transformed cells. Thioredoxin (TRX) is one of the major components of the thiol-reducing system and plays multiple roles in cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and gene expression.(omitted)

  • Further evaluation and modification were done on the new concepts plow (frontal plow), a plow which inverts the soil furrow without lateral displacement . First, kinematics of soil cutting section was analyzed and an experiment was conducted to report draft and power requirement. Second, function of main moldboards was examined and modification was made. As a result of the modification , force applied to the moldboard was reduced, but the furrow inversion became less stable.

  • The paper describes and presents the experimental results of a fuzzy control scheme applied to an electric power system. The fuzzy control scheme which was recently proposed by T. Hiyama and T. Nakano [1] is implemented on a digital processor with A/D and D/A converters and is tested on our laboratory system. The results show that the proposed fuzzy controller with optimal settings of its parameters gives better performance than the PSS (Power System Stabilizer) optimally adjusted. The problems encountered throughout the experiment are also discussed.

  • Superconductivity is key technology for 21st century. To suppress emission of green house effect gas, applied superconductivity is important. In this paper, the current status of superconducting power machines such as generatorand motor are described. Most of all studies are the step of demonstration of idea and possibility. There are large gap between physical idea and actual apparatus. Further collaboration between scientists and engineers has been required.

  • As one of advanced uses of radar, a physically based rainfall prediction method which uses a conceptual rainfall model assimilated by information from volume scanning radar is shown. As another example of advanced utilization of weather radar, results from analyzing a hierarchical time-scale structure in dependency of rainfall distribution en topography are shown.
