Objective: The purpose of this clinical study is to report the case of a 79-year-old man with weakness of the right lower limb due to postzoster femoral nerve palsy. Methods: A patient was treated with Korean medicine, including herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and bee-venom, during 17 days of hospitalization. We evaluated the improvements of symptoms using manual muscle testing (MMT) and measuring the change in walking distance. Results: After 17 days of Korean medicine treatment, there was improvement in the patient's symptoms. MMT improved from 3- to 5, and walking distance improved from 2 spaces to 120 spaces. Conclusions: This study suggested that Korean medical treatment might be effective in the patient's recovery from postzoster femoral nerve palsy.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) on a patient with Miller Fisher Syndrome. ■ Methods A patient with Ataxia, Diplopia, Mydriasis diagnosed as Miller Fisher Syndrome was treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, and press needles. Then we evaluated the improvement with the size of pupil, NRS(Numeral Rating Scale) of Diplopia, Assessment for Gait disturbance. ■ Results We could observe decrease in pupil size and NRS of Diplopia and improve in assessment for gait disturbance after the TKM treatment. ■ Conclusion This case showed the effect of TKM treatment on Miller Fisher syndrome.

Brady-arrhythmia is defined as an arrhythmia in which the heart rate slows to less than 60 beats per minute. Brady-arrhythmia reduces cardiac output and causes changes in blood flow. As a result, dizziness occurs because not only ischemia occurs in the central nervous system, but also blood flow in major organs decreases. The insertion of an artificial pacemaker is known as almost the only treatment alternative for patients with brady-arrhythmia with symptoms. This study reports a case of 85 year old male diagnosed with brady-arrhythmia complaining presyncope type of dizziness. The patient underwent complex Korean medicine treatments by herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion. The daily average value of pulse rate, K-DHI score, NRS score and the patient's subjective expression of symptoms were used as evaluation tools. This study suggested a significant improvement in symptoms through complex Korean medicine treatments without the use of anti-arrhythmic drugs or insertion of an artificial pacemaker in the patient with brady-arrhythmia complaining dizziness.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) on a patient with insomnia occurred after onset of thalamic hemorrhage. ■ Methods A patient with insomnia diagnosed as thalamic hemorrhage was treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion. Then we evaluated the improvement with the number of times the patient woke up, PSQI-K(Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index-Korean), ISI-K(Insomnia Severity Index-Korean) and KESS(Korean version of Epworth sleepiness scale). ■ Results Decrease in scores of PSQI-K, ISI-K, KESS and the number of times the patients woke up were observed after the TKM treatment. ■ Conclusion This case showed the effect of TKM treatment on poststroke insomnia.

Objective: The purpose of this case report is to evaluate the effect of electroacupuncture on Pal-sa (EX-UE9) for unilateral motor disturbance of the hand after cerebral infarction. Methods: One patient with unilateral motor disturbance of the hand following cerebral infarction (right basal ganglion and corona radiata) was treated with acupuncture, herbal medication, and electroacupuncture on Pal-sa (EX-UE9) once daily from June 30, 2016 to July 4, 2016. We evaluated improvement using the Box and Block Test (BTT) and 10-seconds Test, including the Finger Individual Movement Test (FIMT), the Hand Pronation and Supination Test (HPST), and the Finger Tapping Test (FTT). Results: After five days of treatment, increase of FIMT and FTT scores was observed after electroacupuncture on Pal-sa (EX-UE9). However, no increase was observed in BBT or HPST scores. Conclusions: This study suggests that electroacupuncture on Pal-sa (EX-UE9) can help treat motor disturbance of the hand after cerebral infarction.

Objective: In this care report, we address a case of a Parkinson's disease patient with nausea and vomiting. Methods: A patient was treated with Korean medicine therapies including herbal medication (Hyungbangjihwang-tang, Boikyangwie-tang), acupuncture, and electroacupuncture during 35 days of hospitalization. We evaluated the improvements of symptoms by checking the number of vomiting episodes and the presence of nausea. Results: During 35 days of Korean medicine treatment, there was improvement in patient's symptoms. The frequency of vomiting had decreased, and the nausea had decreased and not appeared for the last 7 days. Conclusions: This study suggested that Korean medicine therapies might be effective in relieving gastrointestinal symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

A case of a 73-year-old male patient who fell down, presented with unusual traumatic subdural hematoma localized on the lesion of tentorium cerebelli. He was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture and herbal medicine - 五苓散(Oreong-san). To evaluate the progress, we followed up computed tomography imaging and checked up changing of symptoms. After 17days of treatment, there were notable improvement in computed tomography imaging and symptoms. Oreong-san might be effective in treating tentorium cerebelli subdural hematoma.

Objective : To report cases of patients with Parkinson's syndrome. Design : Case-series Patients and methods : 35 of patients with Parkinson's syndrome who visited Department of Cardiovascular and Neurologic Diseases of Kyunghee Oriental Medical Center were treated by acupuncture and herbal medicine from May until December 2007. 35 patients were participated in this study. 21 patients were dropped out during the trial, and we evaluated symptom progress of 14 patients by using several questionnaires such as Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS), modified Hoehn & Yahr stage (H&Y stage) and Schwab & England ADL scale(S&E ADL scale). Results : The whole group consists of 14 male patients and 21 female patients. Mean±SD age range is 64.5±8.4. There were no significant differences of the demographic and clinical characteristics between the case group and drop-out group. The mean±SD medical treatment period of the Case group were 8.4±6.3weeks, the mean±SD of the total score in first medical treatment UPDRS section 1~3 were 29.6±11.0, the mean±SD of the final score were 27.1±12.6, all of which showed significant improvement(p=0.007). There were no significant changes on the H&Y stage and S&E ADL scale. Conclusion : Patients with Parkinson's syndrome who visited Department of Cardiovascular and Neurologic diseases of Kyunghee Oriental Medical Center had a tendency of showing improvement in clinical symptoms.

A 70-year-old Korean female with diplopia and left ptosis due to oculomotor nerve palsy presented to the hospital. The patient was treated with electroacupuncture, sweet bee venom pharmacopuncture, and moxibustion. She also received acupuncture and herbal medicines Siryeng-tang and Boikyangwi-tang. The change in length (mm) from the medial canthus to the lateral iris was measured to evaluate limitation of eye movement, and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for diplopia. Limitation of eye movement and diplopia was used to determine diplopia. The limitation of eye movement and diplopia were improved after the administration of the Korean medicines. Korean medicine may be effective in treating limitation of eye movement and diplopia due to oculomotor nerve palsy.

A case of a 47-year-old male patient with Lt.hand pain & cold sensation due to Thrombotic occlusion of Lt. brachial a. is presented. He was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture and herbal medicine - 桂枝茯苓丸(Gyejibongnyeong-hwan, Keishibukuryo-gan). We used NRS of pain and Digital Infrared Thermal Image(DITI) to evaluate the progress. After 11days of treatment, there were notable improvement in pain scale, DITI. Korean medical treatment may be effective in treating thrombotic occlusion.
