  • With the development of automation technology and the increase of large-scale automation projects, sensors used for state monitor and parameter measurement have become more and more important. Once the sensor faults occur, which will lead to the degradation of automation system's performance, and even disastrous consequences. In this paper, sensor output value modeling is performed using Kung's Algorithm for direct fault diagnosis of sensor, and fault diagnosis method based on decision theory is presented.

  • AODV algorithm is one of the widely used algorithm for wireless ad-hoc environment In AODV, the destination node selects the route with smallest hop count. Since AODV only consider hop count, the selected route could have low capacity link, and degrade QoS. In this paper, we propose a modified AODV algorithm that consider successful transmission rate of each link. Advantage of proposed algorithm is that AODV can support QoS without significant change of the algorithm using modified hop count.

  • Mobile WiMAX system provides various classes of traffic such as real-time and non-realtime services. These services have different QoS requirements and the QoS aware scheduling has been an important issue. Although many of scheduling algorithms for various services in OFDMA system have been proposed, it is needed to be modified to be applied to Mobile WiMAX system. Since Mobile WiMAX supports five kinds of service classes, it is important to take QoS characteristics of each class into consideration. In this paper, we propose an efficient packet scheduling algorithm to support QoS of each class. Proposed scheme selects a service class first considering QoS Characteristics of each class and choose an appropriate user in the selected class. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the other algorithm.

  • A local alignment algorithm does comparing two strings and finding a substring pair with size l and similarity s. To find a pair with both sufficient size and high similarity, existing normalization approaches maximize the ratio of the similarity to the size. In this paper, we introduce normalization by functions that maximizes f(s)/g(l), where f and g are non-decreasing functions. These functions, f and g, are determined by experiments comparing DNA sequences. In the experiments, our normalization by functions finds appropriate local alignments. For the previous algorithm, which evaluates the similarity by using the longest common subsequence, we show that the algorithm can also maximize the score normalized by functions, f(s)/g(l) without loss of time.

  • Cognitive map (CM) has long been used as an effective way of constructing the human thinking process. In literature regarding CM, a number of successful researches were reported, where CM based what-if analysis could enhance firm's performance. However, there exit very few researches investigating the CM generation method. Therefore this study proposes a GENCOM (Genetic Algorithm based Cognitive Map Generator). In this model combined with CM and GA, GA will find the optimal weight and input vector so that the CM generation. To empirically prove the effectiveness of GENCOM, we collected valid questionnaires from expert in S/W sales cases. Empirical results showed that GENCOM could contribute to effective CM simulation and very useful method to extracting the tacit knowledge of sales experts.

  • The modem production systems are required to produce many items. This is due to the fact that society has become more complex and the customers' demands have become more varied. The demand for complex production systems of various purposes, which can flexibly change the content of work, has increased. One of such production systems is FMS (Flexible Manufacturing System). Limited resources must be used in FMS when a number of working procedures are simultaneously being undertaken because the conditions of stand-by job processes cannot be changed. Researchers are currently being conducted to determine ways of preventing deadlocks. In this study, we proposes the algorithm for detection and recovery of a deadlock status using the DDAPN(Deadlock Detection Avoidance Petri Net). Also, we apply the proposed algorithm has a feature to the FMS.

  • Recently, multimedia data transmission becomes important issues in the wireless sensor network. For the multimedia data transmission in wireless sensor network, QoS (Quality of service) is an important factor to determine the system performance. AODV algorithm is one of the widely used algorithm for wireless ad-hoc environment. In AODV, the destination node selects the route with the smallest hop count. Since AODV only considers the hop count, the selected route could have low channel condition, and degrade QoS. In this paper, we propose a modified AODV algorithm that considers the successful transmission rate of each link. The proposed algorithm regards the number of retransmission which can be obtained from the successful transmission rate as the hop count, and applies the modified hop count to AODV. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the modified AODV can support QoS without significant change of the conventional algorithm.

  • Backoff mechanism serves as one of the key technologies in the MAC-layer of wireless mobile networks. The traditional Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) mechanism in IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) and other existing backoff mechanisms poses several performance issues. For instance, the Contention Window (CW) oscillations occur frequently; a low delay QoS guarantee cannot be provided for real-time transmission, and services with different priorities are not differentiated. For these problems, we present a novel Multi-Priority service differentiated and Adaptive Backoff (MPAB) algorithm over IEEE 802.11 DCF for wireless mobile networks in this paper. In this algorithm, the backoff stage is chosen adaptively according to the channel status and traffic priority, and the forwarding and receding transition probability between the adjacent backoff stages for different priority traffic can be controlled and adjusted for demands at any time. We further employ the 2-dimensional Markov chain model to analyze the algorithm, and derive the analytical expressions of the saturation throughput and average medium access delay. Both the accuracy of the expressions and the algorithm performance are verified through simulations. The results show that the performance of the MPAB algorithm can offer a higher throughput and lower delay than the BEB algorithm.

  • Conventional fractal image compression methods have many problems in searching time for matching domain block. Proposed method is an improved method of Fisher's Quadtree Decomposition in terms of time, compression ratio, and PSNR. This method determines range block in advance using QR algorithm. First, input image is partitioned to $4{\times}4$ range block and then recomposition is performed from bottom level to specified level. As a result, this proposed method achieves high encoding and decoding speed, high compression ratio, and high PSNR than Fisher's Quadtree Decomposition method.

  • A new approach of constructing a suffix tree $T_s$for the given string S is to construct recursively a suffix tree $ T_0$ for odd positions construct a suffix tree $T_e$ for even positions from $ T_o$ and then merge $ T_o$ and $T_e$ into $T_s$ To construct suffix trees for integer alphabets in linear time had been a major open problem on index data structures. Farach used this approach and gave the first linear-time algorithm for integer alphabets The hardest part of Farachs algorithm is the merging step. In this paper we present a new and simpler merging algorithm based on a coupled BFS (breadth-first search) Our merging algorithm is more intuitive than Farachs coupled DFS (depth-first search ) merging and thus it can be easily extended to other applications.
