  • Input filter for satellite communication transponder is the interface between the antenna and the receiver. It is used to provide the selection of the uplink signals with minimum insertion loss and to prevent downlink signals form reaching the LNA. This paper is intended to provide a description of the input filter for KOREASAT communication transponder. Included are description for the electrical and mechanical design and the requirments of environmental test. In expecting the electrical performine the optimum electrical configuration ot meet all requirements are performed. Mechanical requirements are charactersed by several constraints for weight, size of the filter and its type of input output interface. The standardized environmental tests are performed to confirm satisfactory performance of the filter with respect to the requirements of vibration and thermal vacuum shocks.

  • In this paper, the antenna the with linear active phased array of $1{\times}16$ operated in DBS band was designed. The antenna was composed of sixteen radiating elements, sixteen active channels and five Wilkinson power combiners with 4-channel inputs, a digital control board and a stabilizing DC bias board. The radiating element of the array has the structure of a microstrip stack patch with a left-hand circular polarization. And, each active channel consists of a low noise ampilifier, a 3-bit digital phase shifter and a variable analog attenuator. The breadboard of linear active phased array antenna was also fabricated to test the electrical performances. The radiation patterns of the antenna were measured after correcting initial phases of each active channel in aechoic chamber. And also, the beam scanning chracteristcs of $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ were measured.

  • A novel microstrip type law-pass filter using thin or thick film resistors is proposed to efficiently eliminate harmonic spurious response in stop-band. The proposed low-pass filter shows the spurious suppression enhancement of 20 dB over a conventional one. The designed low-pass filter could be used as a harmonic rejection filter of a local oscillator for Ku-band satellite payload system.

  • In this paper, a low noise amplifier(LNA) in a receiver of a Low Noise Block Down Converter (LNB) for direct broadcasting service(DBS) is implemented using GaAs HEMT. The 2-stage LNA is designed for the bandwidth of 11.7GHz - 12.2GHz. The result of a simulation of the LNA using Advanced Design System(ADS) shows that the noise figure is less than 1.4dB, the gain is greater than 23dB and the flatness is 1dB in the bandwidth of 11.7 to 12.2GHz.

  • The SSPA makes the power level of EIRP up to 16W, and compensates for temperature to the SSPA´s maximum stability. The up and the down converters are dually conversed like as individual synthesizers for selecting of independent transmit-receive transponder. The function of the up-converter is to convert the 70MHz IF signal modulated in the indoor unit modem into a 14.0 ∼ 14.5 GHz Ku-band up-link signal to be sent to the antenna. The down-converter converts the 12.25 ∼ 12.75 GHz Ku-band down-link signal or a trouble malfunction of SSPA may be a fatal factor to operation of the whole satellite communication network. Therefore, this study developed the remote monitoring and control program to monitor the SSPA´s status before the problem occurs for stable operation of the system. This software ...

  • This study is a Ku-band array antenna for the manufacture of low-orbit satellite communication terminals, designed to have miniaturization, high gain, and wide beam width. The transmission of low-orbit satellite communication has a right-rotating circularly polarized wave, and the reception has a left-rotating circularly polarized wave. The 4×8 array antenna was separated for transmission and reception, and it was combined with the RF circuit part of the transmitter and receiver, and was terminated in the form of a waveguide for RF signal impedance matching in the form of a transition from the microstrip line to the waveguide. The 30° beam width of the receiver maximum gain of 19 dBi and the 29° beam width of the transmitter maximum gain of 18 dBi are shown. Through this antenna configuration, the system was configured to suit the low-orbit satellite transmission/reception characteristics.

  • In this paper, a fully integrated Ku-band tripler differential MMIC voltage controlled oscillator(VCO), which consists of a differential VCO core and two triplers, is developed using high linearity InGaP/GaAs HBT technology. The VCO core generates an oscillation frequency of 3.583 GHz, an output power of 3.65 dBm, and a phase noise of -96.7 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset with a current consumption of 30 mA at a supply voltage of 2.9 V. The tripler shows excellent side band rejection of 23 dBc at 3 V and 12 mA. The tripler differential MMIC VCO produces an oscillation frequency of 10.75 GHz, an output power of -13 dBm and a phase noise of -89.35 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset.

  • The Ministry of Information-Communication assigned 18~19GHz frequency band for communication of cabins and platform to link between subway/train and it's station. In this paper, we propose wireless transmission devices which are 2 stage hybrid low noise amplifier of 18GHz band and mixer for 18GHz as well to apply for RF receiver. We designed LNA to be noise matched its 1st stage and gain matched for 2nd stage and mixer using $180^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler to suppress the spurious signal. The transistors of 18 GHz LNA and mixer are NE3210S01 of NEC and KMB-N51-1, respectively. As the result of simulation, we get 19.92dB gain and 2.06dB noise figure with LNA and 8.61dB conversion loss with mixer.
