This paper introduces a MATLAB graphical user interface (GUI) based software for analysis of korea augmentation satellite system (KASS) availability performance. This software uses minimum variance (MV) estimator and Kriging algorithm to generate integrity information such as user differential range error (UDRE) and grid ionospheric vertical error (GIVE). The information is offered to ground and aviation users in Korean region. The software also gives accuracy data, protection level data and availability map about each user position by using the integrity information. In particular the software calculates the protection level along a path of aircraft. We verified the result of protection level of aviation user by comparing them with the results of SBASimulator#2, which is a simulation tool of european geostationary navigation overlay service (EGNOS). As a result, the protection level error between the result of our software and the SBASimulator#2 was about 2% which means that the result of our software is accurate.

We are able to construct and utilize DEM(Digital Elevation Model) throughout the NGIS(National Geographic Information System) project. It is important that interpolation methods and appreciate size of grid for the construction of accurate DEM(Digital Elevation Model). There were several references related to the DEM(Digital Elevation Model) construction method, however they couldn't consider various topographical characteristics in the korea. In this study, we recommended that suitable interpolation method for each topographic element. After dividing Poonggi area into mountain, hill, urban, agricultural land, we constructed DEM(Digital Elevation Model) with various interpolation methods and grid size using 1:5,000 digital map. Then evaluated accuracy using elevation data which extracted from air-photo. The interpolation methods were analyzed and compared for various topographical conditions. As a result, Kriging method was superior to TIN method for all the topographical conditions. Another experiment was performed to examine optimal grid space for DEM with each topographical condition. 10m grid space was most suitable for mountain area and hilly districts, while 30m grid space was most suitable for urban area and farm land.
The Hanon volcano located in the southern pan of Cheju Island, Korea has a wetland in its crater being used as a farmland. Previous researchers presumed this wetland was a maar lake in the past. Based on the seismic refraction method, the wetland sediment layer was estimated between 5 to 14 m deep, which is mostly in accordance with previous researches. However, this shows only the depths at some sites, not representing the whole spatial distribution. This study is an attempt to reconstruct the volcanic lake in Hanon crater by applying the spatial statistical techniques based on the depth information from the seismic survey and known data. The procedure of reconstruction is as follows: First, the depth information from the seismic survey and known data were collected and it was interpolated by IDW and Ordinary Kriging method. Next, with the interpolation map and the present DEM the paleo DEM was constructed. Finally, using the paleo lake level on core data, the boundary of volcanic lake was extracted from the paleo DEM. The reconstructed lake resembles a half-moon in the north of the central scoria cone. It is estimated that the lake was 5 m deep on average and 13 m deep at the deepest point. Although there are slight differences according to the interpolation techniques, it is calculated that the area of the lake was between 184,000 and $190000m^2,$ and its volume approximately $869,760m^3$. Because of the continuous deposition processes after the crater formation, the reconstructed volcanic lake would not indicate an actual lake at a specific time. Nevertheless, it offers a significant clue regarding the inner morphology and evolution of the crater.
Land surface temperature in ecohydrology is a variable that links surface structure to soil processes and yet its spatial prediction across landscapes with variable surface structure is poorly understood. And there are an insufficient number of soil temperature monitoring stations. In this study, a grid-based land surface temperature prediction model is proposed. Target sites are Andong and Namgang dam region. The proposed model is run in the following way. At first, geo-referenced site specific air temperatures are estimated using a kriging technique from data collected from 60 point weather stations. Then surface soil temperature is computed from the estimated geo-referenced site-specific air temperature and normalized difference vegetation index. After the model is calibrated with data collected from observed remote-sensed soil temperature, a soil temperature map is prepared based on the predictions of the model for each geo-referenced site. The daily and monthly simulated soil temperature shows that the proposed model is useful for reproducing observed soil temperature. Soil temperatures at 30 and 50 cm of soil depth are also well simulated.
Inversion result of geophysical data given as a block type was geostatistically simulated with borehole observation given as a point type and was applied to the rock classifying map. The geophysical data generally involved secondary information for the target material and were obtained for overall region. In contrast, borehole data provided direct information for the target material, but tended to be effective only for a narrow range of region and were dealt as a point type. Integrated simulation or kriging interpolation of these two different kinds of information required the covariance for point-point, point-block and block-block. Using the Bssim module included in SGeMS software, integrated result of geophysical data and borehole data were obtained. The results were then compared with the method of geostatistical inversion proposed by authors. Downscaling method used in this study showed relatively more flexible than the geostatistical inversion.
In Korea, specific thermal elements such as annual mean temperature (AMT) 13℃, 14℃, and Kira's coldness index (CI) -10℃, have been suggested about the northernmost distribution of the warm-temperate evergreen broad-leaved forest zone. We reviewed the relationship between three thermal elements and the actual distribution of evergreen broad-leaved woody plants or its communities. Thiessen and Kriging method using point-data calibrated by seasonal lapse rate according to altitude were utilized for the spatial distribution pattern analysis. Several phytoclimatic maps were also produced in order to compare different thermal values. We identified that the AMT 13℃ was the best thermal element to demarcate the northern limit of the warm-temperate forest zone. Its area was estimated ca. 20,334 ㎢ and larger than those of other thermal elements. We concluded that an indirectly fabricated index i.e. CI -10℃ is useless and it was enough for a direct value of AMT 13℃ to represent the northern-limit distribution of warm-temperate forest zone, at least in Korea. Further researches on the reciprocity between floristic regions and phytoclimate zones are raised.
In this paper, we introduce the linear regression model taking the parametric spatial association structure into account and employ it to five-year averaged wind speed data measured at 460 meteorological monitoring stations in South Korea. From the prediction map obtained by the model with spatial association parameters, we can see that inland area has smaller wind speed than coastal regions. When comparing the spatial linear regression model with classical one by using one-leave-out cross-validation, the former outperforms the latter in terms of similarity between the observations and the corresponding predictions and coverage rate of 95% prediction intervals.
In the Cheju Island, there are high salinity water yield in the coastal area. There are various reason; the main reason is low-groundwater level by the structure of geology, and over-yielding etc. This study analysis water quality, the distribution of high salinity wells. 16 sample well logged the electronic geology survey. As result of distribution of Cl$^-$ is the East Area is high than other areas. Water quality test data divides 6 group by sea level of well bottom: over Om, Om~-1Om, -10~-20m, -20~-30m, -30~-40m, under -40m. According collect data of Kriging, and logged the electronic geology survey, and other survey are related chlorine(Cl$^-$). The map of Cl$^-$ distribution was made. Bukcheju Gun, Hallim Up, there are 2 wells prevent high salinity water. Both of well are effective grout sill salinity water intrusion aquifer.

The objective of this study was to suggest technical approaches for preparation and down scaling of climate data used for predicting the potential forest distribution. To predict the forest distribution, we employed a Korean-specific forest distribution model, so-called the TAG(Thermal Analogy Group), and defined the PFT(Plant Functional Types) based on the HyTAG(Hydrological and Thermal Analogy Group). The climate data with 20km spatial resolution were interpolated to fit on the input data format with 1km spatial resolution. Two potential forest distribution maps were estimated using climate data constructed by kriging, one of the interpolation and down-scaling approaches, with and without lapse rate considered. Through the verification process by comparing two potential maps with the actual vegetation map, the forest distribution using the lapse rate was proven to be 38% more accurate.

The deep sea camera system could render it possible to obtain the detailed information of the nodule distribution, but difficult to estimate nodule abundance quantitatively. In order to estimate nodule abundance quantitatively from deep seabed photographs, the nodule abundance equation was derived from the box core data obtained in KODOS area(long.: $154^{\circ}{\sim}151^{\circ}W$, lat.: $9^{\circ}{\sim}12^{\circ}N$) during two survey cruises carried out in 1989 and 1990. The regression equation derived by considering extent of burial of nodule to Handa's equation compensates for the abundance error attributable to partial burial of some nodules by sediments. An average long axis and average extent of burial of nodules in photographed area are determined according to the surface textures of nodules, and nodule coverage is calculated by the image analysis method. Average nodule abundance estimated from seabed photographs by using the equation is approximately 92% of the actual average abundance in KODOS area. The measured sampling points by box core or free fall grab are in general very sparse and hence nodule abundance distribution should be interpolated and extrapolated from measured data to uncharacterized areas. The another goal of this study is to depict continuous distribution of nodule abundance in KODOS area by using PC-version of geostatistical model in which several stages are systematically proceeded. Geostatistics was used to analyse spatial structure and distribution of regionalized variable(nodule abundance) within sets of real data. In order to investigate the spatial structure of nodule abundance in KODOS area, experimental variograms were calculated and fitted to a spherical models in isotropy and anisotropy, respectively. The spherical structure models were used to map out distribution of the nodule abundance for isotropic and anisotropic models by using the kriging method. The result from anisotropic model is much more reliable than one of isotropic model. Distribution map of nodule abundance produced by PC-version of geostatistical model indicates that approximately 40% of KODOS area is considered to be promising area(nodule abundance > $5kg/m^2$) for mining in case of anisotropy.
