A survey of canine heartworm (nirofilaria inmitis) infections among German shepherds in five areas of South Korea was performed from October 1994 to August 1995 using a microfilarial test (modified Knott's test) and an antigen test (DiroCHEKⓑ Synbiotics, USA). The infection rate of 127 German shepherds (71 males and 56 females) was 10.2% (13/127) by the microfilarial test, but was 28.3% (36/127) by the antigen test, revealing that 24 of the 36 antigen-positive dogs were microfilaria-negative in the peripheral blood . All dogs that were microfilaria-positive were also antigen-positive. Three of the microfilaria-negative and antigen-positive dogs contained 4-15 adult heartworms in the heart and pulmonary arteries upon necropsy. The infection rate among German shepherds was the highest in Hoengsong-gun (Kangwon-do, 84.4%) , while those of Yechon-gun (Kyongsangbuk-do) and Chungwon-gun (Chungchongbuk-do) areas were 20.0% and 14.3%, respectively. None of the dogs in the Kimhae-shi (Kyongsangnam-do) and Kwangiu areas was heartworm positive. The infection rates of heartworm in dogs at the age of 1-3, 4-6. and 7-11 years were 6.3%, 21.4%, and 56.4%, respectively. Based on the fact that the antigen test is more accurate than the microfilarial test, this study strongly indicates that the prevalence rate of canine heartworm in Korea may be higher than previously reported (3.1-23.0%) which utilized microfilarial tests.

It has been frequently asked the question not only by academicians but also by practitioners whether employment flexibility can be compatible with employment stability. This study tries to find the answer by investigating the German model of employment flexibility practices and job stability policies. The German model of employment flexibility is mainly based on working-time accounts and short-time work programs. It is found that social partnership and government support have played a crucial role to stabilize German labour market. Workers, employers, and government have harmoniously interplayed in order for overcoming the economic hardship. Adapting the German experience of overcoming economic turbulence by introducing employment flexibilization can help Korean firms. However, it is important to recognize that there are some differences in practices of labour relations, cultural and social background while applying the German practices.

Based on pathological findings, 5 German shepherds, revealed a mean age of 7.6 years, showing no clinical signs were diagnosed as tracheopathia osteochondroplastica(TOC). Grossly, multiple small-sizecd nodules, appeared as cobble-stones, on the cartilage rings situated in the anterior trachea and the mucosal surface of the epiglottis were showed. Numerous tiny nodules were scattered on the pleural surface of the lung. The vascular walls of the heart were irregular and coarse apearance with calcification. Histopathologically, nodules in the trachea represented an irregular expansion of the underlying tracheal ring with protrusion into the submucosa and consisted of proliferated and calcified cartilage and bone with marrow spaces containing numbers of hematopoietic cells. Pulmonary calcinosis and calcification of the vascular walls of the heart were observed. Our observations suggested that TOC arises form eccondroses and exostoses of the tracheal cartilage rings.

A male German Shepherd dog, $2{\frac{1}{2}}$years of age, was admitted with sudden anemia, weakness, hyperpyrexia, anorexia and lethargy. The patient showed hypoplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia, absolute and relative lymphocytosis, absolute and relative granulocytopenia, hypoalbuminemia, slight hepatic disorder, slight azotemia, hematuria and proteinuria by the screening examination. The bone marrow aspiration smear showed high cellularity, severs infiltration of lymphoblasts and prolymphocytes, and mitotic figures of lymphoid cells. The liver aspiration smear demonstrated infiltration of lymphoblasts. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia was diagnosed as none of the superficial lymph nodes showed enlargement and marked functional disorder of important organs other than the liver was not found. The patient was treated with vincristine, cyclophophamide, predniosolone for chemotherapy and blood transfusion and either ampicillin or cefoperazone for supportive treatment. But the patient did not show marked remission and died 9 days after the start of the chemptherapy. The necropsy was not permitted.

State of the art and current issues related with the RC and PSC structure system for the German magnetic levitation train were investigated. The German magnetic levitation train adopted a new kind of a structure to enable high-speed transportation, which allows the use of the space over a ground. The loading from Transrapid is light-weight compared with a regular train due to load distribution to a supporting structure. Therefore, Transrapid is considered an economical and efficient transportation system, and is also an environmentaly-sustainable structure, In this paper, the structural design and construction technology specific to a magnetic levitation train were discussed, and structural considerations related with an actual operation of the train were pointed out. In addition, the future research area of a magnetic levitation train was proposed.

This study was performed to compare the individual characteristics of the vocalization and behavior in the adult female German Shepherd in military service. In this study, a stranger and an other strange dog approached their kennel. Their body postures included ears forward and up, slowly wagged tails, lips raised, mouth open and teeth exposed. It was Interesting that their vocalizations were only the bark without any combination of other vocalizations. There were significant differences between duration of call(DC), pitch(P), Fl formant, F2 formant, F3 formant and F4 formant(p<0.05) except interval between call(IBC) and intensity(I) among their barks. It was suggested that the differences between same breed dogs'barks could be recognized and the data of spectrogram, especially formant contour, could be used to discriminate the sender characteristics. The body postures could also be used to understand their mind.

This paper addresses the issue of constraints on the conversion of the participle II in German, proposing a constraint-based lexical semantic approach. I argue against the widely accepted syntactic view which is based on the dichotomous distinction of intransitive verbs, which has been advanced by the Unaccusative Hypothesis [Perlmutter (1978)]. Several arguments are also given against the semantic view which is based on some aspectual notions such as 'telicity', 'transformativity' or 'terminativity'. The crucial constraints on the conversion of the participle II in German, it is argued, is instead two lexical semantic entailments, movement with a definite change of location and affectedness. These and other lexical semantic entailments in the sense of Dowty (1991) are encoded into the multiple inheritance type hierarchy of qfpsoa. The proposal made in this paper is based on the multiple inheritance hierarchy which is envisaged in a recent framework of head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar.

We proposed a design procedure for Korean Precast Slab Track system. Korean Precast Slab Track system cannot use the same design procedure to German slab track system because of different shapes and some problems. We identified the problems of German slab track design system that cannot simulate effects of loads. This proposed procedure is implemented for the commercial software of ABAQUS. Using this procedure, one can consider uncombined effects between slab panel and hydraulic sub base, effect of close sleepers.

This paper aims to describe a German-Korean machine translation system for nominal phrases. Besides, we have two subgoals. First, we are going to revea linguistic differences between two languages and propose a language-informational method fo overcome the differences. The method is based on an integrated model of translation knowledge, efficient information structure, and concordance selection. Then, we will show the statistical results about translation experiment and its evaluation as an evidence for the adequacy of our linguistic method and translation system itself.
