This paper deals with utilization of traditional Indian textile design found in 21st century fashion. It examines the decoration of the traditional Indian textile design which inspires and widely adopted in the modern fashion design, and the immanent meaning of the traditional pattern. This paper also analyzes the trend of its utilization in the modern fashion design. In order to examine variety of Indian textile design and its modernization, the Indian ethnic dresses found in 21st century western designer collections were compared with the Indian traditional textile design adopted by Indian fashion designers. The result of the study shows followings : Firstly, the typical traditional decoration in Indian textile design contains plangi, chintz, ikat, roghan and embroidery (mirror-work), and the traditional Indian patterns are roughly divided into natural pattern, plant pattern, animal pattern and geometric pattern. Secondly, comparison of 203 fashion items of world top 4 collections with 422 fashion items of Indian designer's collections shows that the paisley pattern obtains the majority in western design collections, while the geometric pattern in Indian designer collections. Thirdly, the comparison and analysis of the 21st century western fashion design shows that the traditional Indian textile design is mostly used in the seasonal trend color or is mixed & matched with other patterns. You can also find the feeling of the traditional Indian patterns in some western collections. In Indian designer collections, on the other hand, the traditional Indian patterns are widely used in the manner that they maintain the traditional feeling, while they are reconstructed in modern style.
This study was performed to investigate the pollution-free Korean traditional papermaking characteristics from paper mulberry by sulfomethylation pulping. Bast fibers were pulped by sulfomethylated cooking liquor, and by alkali and alkali-peroxide processes for the comparison. Sulfomethylated pulping resulted in the superior pulp with high yield and better quality compared to those of alkali and alkali-peroxide pulps. Since the pulp was so bright, there was almost no need additional bleaching. Pollutant loads of sulfomethylated pulping effluent were very low in terms of pH, turbidity and color compared to those of alkali. Pollution-free effluents was accomplished by simple filtering treatment with pine bark, charred rice hull and sawdust compost. Pine bark was the most effective in reduction rate of pollutants.

Korean traditional houses have been developed in sympathy with natural environment and formed comfortable indoor condition by properly using surrounding natural resources including building layout, space construction and material. Or traditional wooden windows adjusting ambient temperature and humidity have both the functions of window and door, although they are clearly divided in the West. While window paper is attached from the outside in China and Japan, it is attached from the inside in Korea. The opening and closing mode of windows is similar and their dimensions are shown not to be standardized but diverse in terms of the characteristic of wooden furniture and that of components placed between columns. Thus this study is to look into the performance of band-lattice door of a typical traditional one by observing changes in sound insulation characteristics according to difference in thickness and finishing method of window paper and those in sound insulation characteristics with the changed thickness of air layer in traditional windows and doors.

To evaluate the anisotropic characteristics of Korean traditional paper-Hanji, the physical and mechanical characteristics of hand-made hanji, and machine-made hanji were investigated in this research. The densities of copying paper and newsprint paper appeared to be two times higher than the densities of hand-made hanji using Ssangbal sheet forming and hanji made of paper mulberry fiber. The breaking length, and tear index of both Hanji using Owangbal sheet forming, and hand-made Hanji using Ssangbal sheet forming appeared to be different according to the directions in paper. The breaking lengths of Hanji using Owangbal sheet forming showed little differences according to the directions. Breaking length of Hanji using Ssangbal sheet were slightly higher than those of Hanji using Owangbla sheet forming. The breaking lengths of machine-made hanji, copying paper, and newsprint paper were two to four times higher than those of hand-made Hanji. The breaking length showed higher differences according to the direction than the tear index. The tensile strength according to the directions in paper showed significant differences (${\alpha}$=0.05) in all papers used in this research.
The traditional dress of a nation represents that nations organic culture. The traditional Hanbok dress has become our traditional wear through many centuries of history. This paper studies the real world use of daily Hanbok and provide comparative data and compares the traditional and daily Hanbok with focus on the basic Hanbok. It will also present my views on the future of daily Hanbok design with beauty as an emphasis.
Since the recent Hanok boom in Korea, Contemporary Hanok has been evolving in terms of structure, space, form, etc. To get a comprehensive understanding of the diversified Contemporary Hanok, this paper aims at its type classification by analyzing architects' designs since 2000. The criteria for the classification are two: (1) renovation [Re] or new construction [New]; and (2) degree of Contemporary Hanok's deviation from the traditional Hanok's standard - maintaining the traditional form [Main]; changing space within the traditional form [Space]; changing the traditional frame [Frame]; and juxtaposing the traditional and the modern [Combi]. From the two criteria, this paper deduced eight types of Contemporary Hanok, named respectively: Re-Main, New-Main, Re-Space, New-Space, Re-Frame, New-Frame, Re-Combi, and New-Combi, and studied their cases. It can be argued that various aspects of Contemporary Hanok and their critical meanings were well-investigated through this type classification and case-studies.

Through the whole period of the twentieth century, Chinese Traditional Medicine has been affected by the political and cultural changes of Chinese society. Before the 1949 Communist Revolution, Chinese Traditional Medicine was regarded as a dark past which should be cleared off. But Chinese Traditional Medicine has been reevaluated as a national medicine and spreaded quickly since the 1949 Communist Revolution. Moreover, 'the bare foot doctor' who received short term training appeared during the Cultural Revolution. It enhanced the status of Chinese Traditional Medicine. At the same time, it was estimated as a model of the self-reliant development of Third World countries. But the direction of development of Chinese Traditional Medicine was changed again recently. Chinese government has adapted the open-economy policy since the late 1970s. Accordingly Chinese Traditional Medicine also has been changed. Nowadays it pursues the professional development strategy. This paper inquired the following research questions. First, what kind of historical changes in the development strategy of Chinese Traditional Medicine has happened? Second, how much Chinese Traditional Medicine has accomplished the professionalization? Third, what kind of problems Chinese Traditional Medicine has met in the process of professionalization? Finally, why Chinese Traditional Medicine has adapted the professional development strategy?

This paper is studied on the korean traditional landscape in the view of the meaning of the contemporary landscape. The landscape architecture is expanding in the various research field of landscape. The seven concept of landscape can be divided as a regional concept, a land- form concept, an ecological concept, a land use concept, a heritage concept, a scenery concept, and a park and garden concept. This paper is deal with 985 kyoung(景) in 104 places and 16 Gok(曲) in 16 places as the korean traditional landscape. The object of landscape is generally focus on a reality as well as an unreality. In kyoung and Gok, the landscape is organized as an order of a small universe. The expression of the structure of korean traditional landscape is the fifth dimensional space which is organized by the third dimensional space with a time, an image and a feeling.
In reality, the distinction between the Korean traditional culture and the cultures of other countries is at a delicate boundary. Additionally in the wake of the recent socio-cultural confrontation between Korea and China, it has become necessary to establish the foundation and area of Korean traditional culture and to actively utilize the importance of improving awareness of Korean traditional culture. To reorganize the reckless use of the gold foil pattern shown in the rental hanbok, data on the museum's collection of gold leaf patterns were collected and analyzed. Based on the gold foil, Gilsang characters such as Phoenix pattern, Crane pattern, Bat pattern, Flower pattern, Fruit pattern and recovery advice were extracted through references. The traditional gold foil pattern was reconstructed and relocated to design the gold leaf patch. Based on the collection and analysis of the museum's relics, the Wonsam & Daedae, Dangeui, Sranchima, Sagyusam, Jeonbok, Bokgun, and Daenggi were produced. Therefore, we present the possibility of producing gold foil and modern methods for producing gold foil using laser cutting techniques that can express refinement and complexity well, and gold foil thermal transfer paper with retouchable effects. Additionally, we would like to reflect upon the practicality and the convenience to modern people by considering the complexity and hassle of the traditional gold foil production process, and the disadvantages of processes that require relatively longer time. It intends to help revitalize the market of Korean traditional clothing and fashion products.
This paper intends to find out any possibility that a traditional fan can be continuously used for design development of fashion cultural products which highlight the differentiated uniqueness of Korean traditional cultures. For this purpose, this paper will newly reinterpret design-based formative factors that the shape and the line of a traditional fan shows, and then, make a pattern. This paper studied the existing literatures of a traditional fan, made the shape of a traditional fan into a motif, using computer graphic programs, like Adobe Illustrator CS 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS2, and then, applied it to neckties, T-shirts, and scarves. Among various kinds of traditional fans this paper set 4 basic motifs of new formative images by use of the shapes of Dan-Seon and Jeob-Seon, and then, developed them into two basic motifs each. Pink, blue, purple, green, yellow, orange, and gray were used as the basic colors of the motifs, through which splendid, but calm images were planned. The design of a necktie, which used a developed motif design, was applied in the form of a repeated pattern, through which a calm image was expressed. 45o turn was applied to this design to make a striped pattern image or a refined and cheerful image. The scarf design was developed into a rectangular long scarf so it can be used like a shawl. The design of T-shirt was developed into three types: a round neck-lined half-sleeved box type; a round neck-lined sleeveless type; and a V neck-lined, tight half-sleeved type.
