An analysis of the potential impact of various ozone regulatory standards on mortality

  • Ground-level ozone, an air pollutant that is monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), damages human health by irritating the respiratory system, reducing lung function, damaging lung cells, and aggravating asthma and other chronic conditions. In March 2008, the EPA strengthened ozone standards by lowering acceptable limits from 84 parts per billion to 75 parts per billion. Here epidemiologic data is used to study the effects of ozone regulation on human health and assessed how various regulatory standards for ozone may affect nonaccidental mortality, including respiratory-related deaths during ozone season. The assessment uses statistical methods based on hierarchical Bayesian models to predict the potential effects of the different regulatory standards. It also analyzes the variability of the results and ho they are impacted by different modeling assumptions. We focused on the technical an statistical approach to assessing relationship between new ozone regulations and mortality while other researches have detailed the relationship between ozone and human mortality. We shows a statistical correlation between ozone regulations and mortality, with lower limits of acceptable ozone linked to a decrease in deaths, and projects that mortality is expected to decrease by reducing ozone regulatory standards.

국가 ITS표준화추진체계 운영효율화방안 (한국.미국.일본사례 비교분석을 중심으로) (The Comparative Analysis of National ITS Standardization System)

  • 본 연구는 한국, 미국, 일본의 ITS 표준추진체계 비교분석(Comparative Analysis)을 통해, 국가 ITS표준 추진체계의 운영효율화방안을 제언하는 것이다. 이를 위해 우리나라의 ITS표준추진체계의 문제점을 파악하고, 국외사례분석을 통해 이를 개선할 수 있는 대응방안을 제언하였다. 미국, 일본사례 비교분석결과, 국가ITS표준화추진체계의 효율적 운영을 위해서는 관.민협력적, 범부처적 국가ITS표준추진체계 모델을 정립하고, 국제표준과 연계하여 국가표준, 부처표준, 단체표준을 추진하되, 해당표준이 표준의 기능과 역할에 부합하도록 개발.제정되어야한다. 사업자와 수요자의 다양한 요구(Need)를 신속히 표준화할 수 있도록 단체표준화육성을 통해 국가 표준화하고, 특히 교통안전과 공공성에 관련된 ITS기술은 정부부터가 강력히 규제할 수 있는 기술기준(Technical Regulation)을 도입하도록 하였다. 아울러 표준제정 뿐만 아니라 데이터등록소(Data Registry) 및 웹기반의 표준화활동 등 표준화구축사업을 통해 표준화의 활동을 활성화하도록 제언하였다.

신재생에너지 계통 연계에 따른 송전망 Risk Level 평가에 대한 연구 (A Study on Evaluation for Risk Level in Transmission Network Connected with Renewable Energy)

  • A Renewable Portfolio Standard(RPS) is a regulation that requires the increased generation of energy from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, fuel cell, small hydro, biomass and geothermal. By environmental, technical and these regulatory reasons, the amount of renewable energy sources will be increased in a network. However, it is hard to assess risk of a transmission network with large scale renewable energy sources because the output characteristics of renewable energies are intermittent. This paper evaluates effects of a transmission system with supplemental large scale renewable energies into the existing system. To evaluate these effects, a methodology for risk level of components in a network is proposed considering steady state and contingency N-1 in this paper. We consider line current and bus voltage in each state of a network.

  • Due to environmental regulation and technical improvements, renewable energy sources (RES) are increasingly penetrated and operated in power systems. Clean energy technologies have become cost-competitive with conventional power systems, and in the near future, the generation cost of RES is expected to approach grid parity. In this situation, it should be considered an extraordinarily important issue to be maximized resulting in utilization of RES as well as to develop technologies for efficiency improvement of RES. Therefore, in this paper, the method for determining an optimal installed capacity and interconnected location of RES is proposed in order to minimize the cost of energy not supplied, which can contribute to improve distribution reliability.

퍼지이론을 이용한 CNC 공작기계의 절삭력제어 (Cutting Force Control of a CNC Machine Using Fuzzy Theory)

  • Fuzzy control is proposed to regulate cutting force in turning operations under varying cutting conditions. The traditional linear controllers based on crisp mathematical model cannot effectively control cutting force becasue of the nonlinear dynamics of turning operations. The proposed fuzzy controller is based on operator experience and expert knowledge. The membership functions for the inputs and the output of the controller are designed. Cutting force is regulated by adjusting feedrate according to the variation of cutting conditions. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by experiments. The results of experiments show that the proposed fuzzy controller has a good cutting force regulation over a wide range of cutting conditions.

안전인증 대상 위험 기계 및 기구 관련 재해 원인분석 (Cause Analysis of Accidents Associated with Dangerous Machines and Devices Subject to Safety Certification)

  • Intensity of accidents associated with dangerous machines and devices are (hereafter items), in general, high compared to other industrial accidents. This study focuses on cause analysis of accidents associated with items that are subject to safety certification. The method is based on automated analysis of abstracts of accidents written in descriptive format. The analysis results indicate that more than 50% of accidents associated with items are caused by technical reasons and nearly 50% of accidents were preventable. More effective prevention of industrial accidents would then be realized by safety certification at the stage of danger generation. Transition from the direct regulation on users to manufacturers is also needed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of industrial safety system in Korea.

  • Recently, the demand for the Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading facility (FPSO) which has some economic and technical advantages, has increased in offshore oil production areas. FPSO vessel dose not have self-propulsion system, but has additional facilities for oil production and positioning system. Main noise sources such as gas turbines, compressors, and pumps, are located on top of the hull (Topside area). In general, the noise regulation for the offshore structure is severer than that of the cargo ship and acceptable noise limit of cabin is specified as 45 dB(A). This paper describes the noise characteristics and the countermeasures for FPSO Topside area through investigation of noise analysis and site measurement results. Proper countermeasures, considering the characteristics of sources and receiver spaces, were applied from the noise prediction and various measurement results. Finally, this ship was successfully delivered with excellent noise properties.

  • This paper gives information which is applied to install the electrical equipment of amusement park and ride. For analyzing the standard of electrical equipment installation, we research the related regulation of National Electrical Code(2002), IEC 60364-series and Technical standards for Electrical facilities of internal standard. Among electrical equipments of amusement park and ride, especially we study the transformer vaults, overcurrent protection and ground protection of electrical equipment. So we the furnished the installation information of transformer vaults, overcurrent and ground protection at amusement park and ride.

  • Because of the social needs for energy saving and the rigid environmental regulation, the development of light materials and new economical manufacturing technologies have been actively investigated. Recently, the hydroforming of high strength aluminum tube has attracted great interest due to its good strength-to-weight ratio, which could play an important role in lightweighting of automobile. However, the limited formability of high strength aluminum alloys is considered to hinder the active application of the hydroforming process. In this paper, the hydroformability of aluminum tubes with different heat treatments was investigated as the basic research of the hydroforming process for the high strength aluminum tubes.

  • 재난문자는 국가가 재난 상황에 대해 국민에게 경보를 전달하여 알림으로써 피해를 예방하거나 경감시키는 대표적인 수단이다. 하지만 재난문자의 기술 규격을 민간 표준으로 제정하여 준수 여부가 휴대전화 제조사나 통신사에 달려있어 서비스에 차이가 발생하는 문제가 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 국내 재난문자의 기술기준 제정 필요성을 제시한다.
