Direct Somatic Embryogenesis of Curculigo orchioides Gaertn., an Endangered Medicinal Herb

  • In vitro multiplication of Curculigo orchioides was achieved by direct somatic embryogenesis in young leaf segments. Immature leaf segments of about 0.5 cm in length were cultured on MS medium supplemented with different concentrations of BAP (2-10 $\mu{M}$) or Kin (2-10 $\mu{M}$). Optimum response in terms of per cent cultures responding (89%) and the number of embryos per explant (16) were observed on MS medium supplemented with 8 $\mu$M BAP. The emergence of several somatic embryos on the adaxial side of the leaf segments was observed one month after the culture. Germinated somatic embryos were grown up to about 1.5 cm length before transferring to maturation medium. For maturation, the individual embryos were isolated and transferred to MS medium supplemented with BAP (5 $\mu{M}$) and NAA (0.5 $\mu{M}$). The plantlets emerged from the embryos were transferred to soil containing 1 peat: 1 sand with 90% success. The embryos were formed directly on the leaf segments without any callus phase. Direct regeneration of somatic embryos is important for the conservation of this endangered species, as rare somaclonal variants are likely to arise than from indirect regeneration.

  • This study examined the effects of cyclosporin A [CsA] and methylprednisolone[MP] on the viability of the devascularized trachea after heterotopic transplantation. Fourty-two tracheal segments were harvested from 21 donor Wistar rats. Those tracheal segments were heterotopically implanted into the abdomen of recipient rats after wrapping in omentum. Heterotopical implantation was performed in six groups of rats:Group I was Wistar syngeneic controls, and five groups of Sprague Dawley recipients, receiving no immunosuppression[Group II], CsA alone[Group III, V], and CsA in combination with MP[Group IV, VI]. After 14 days, the tracheal segments were histologically evaluated.Epithelial thickness and the degree of epithelial regeneration were significantly different between group I and group II, III, VI, VI [p< 0.05]. There were significant differences in the epithelial thickness between group II, III, IV and group V, VI. In the degree of epithelial regeneration, there were significant differences in group II, group III-IV, and group V-VI. Without immunosuppression there was virtually no epithelium, whereas low-dose immunosuppression yielded intermediated viability, and with high dose CsA and MP we observed improved tracheal viability. Our results suggest that optimal combination of CsA and MP may improve the viability in heterotopic tracheal allografts.

Shopping Behavior, Country Attitudes, and Evaluation of Countries of Origin in China

  • This article presents the results of a survey of 209 Chinese male consumers. In this study, consumer evaluations and attitude towards products made in industrialized and newly industrialized countries were obtained along with measures of consumer shopping behavior. The results indicate that industrialized countries were perceived as manufacturing products that are more reliable, technologically advanced, stylistic, and costly than newly industrialized countries. A duster analysis using moderating variables related to shopping for refrigerators, cameras, and t shirts revealed that the Chinese respondents could be grouped into four segments identified as Durables Enthusiasts, Duraoles Uninvolved, Inexperienced Shoppers, and Apparels Involved. Country attitudes and evaluations were fairly consistent across the newly industrialized countries but varied for industrialized countries across the four segments. Similar results also emerged from a correlation analysis of made in attitude scales (based on moderating shopping variables) with country evaluations. It was found that Chinese consumers' involvement with durable products was positively related to the evaluation of industrialized countries. Consumers belonging to the Durable Enthusiasts and Apparels Involved segments evaluated industrialized countries more favorably and believed to a greater extent that products made in these countries are reliable, technologically advanced, and stylistic than consumers belonging to the Durables Uninvolved and Inexperienced Shopper segments. Managerial and research implications are derived from these results.

그리드지도의 방향정보를 이용한 형상지도 작성 (Feature based Map Building by using Orientation Information in a Grid Map)

  • This paper presents an efficient method of extracting line segments from the occupancy grids in a grid map. The grid map is composed of 2-D grids that have both the occupancy and orientation probabilities using sonar sensors. We evaluate the orientation information of every grid when the occupancy probability of the grid is updated from sonar range data. To find the shape of an object in the map from orientation information, the orientations are clustered into several groups according to their values. The line segments are, then, extracted from the clusters based on Hough transform. Finally, a feature-based map is built with these line segments. The proposed method is illustrated with the results produced by sets of experiments in an indoor environment.

  • Human dummies are essential tools in the development of such sensible products as vehicles. Dummies are actively used not only in reach and view field tests, major ergonomic evaluations, but also in impact tests and perception evaluations. This study attempts to obtain possible correlations of human body segments from Korean anthropometric data. 알파인 스키 회전기술에 따른 인체분절과 스키 간 각운동학 및 상호상관분석 (Angular Kinematic and Cross-correlation Analysis between Body Segments and Ski among Alpine Ski Turning Techniques)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative angles and cross-correlation between body segments and ski among four alpine ski turning techniques. Method: 19 alpine ski instructors participated in this study. Each skier asked to perform 4- types of turning technique, classified by radius and level. 8 inertial measurement units were used to measure orientation angle of segment and ski on the anteroposterior and vertical axis. Results: Significant differences were found between types of turning in the segments-ski relative angle on the anteroposterior and vertical axis (p<.05). Although, cross-correlation showed a high correlation between angles of segment and ski, there were significant differences between types of turning. Conclusion: Based on our results, the relative movement and timing between each segment and ski is different according to the turning techniques, so the training methods should be applied differently.

스포츠웨어 추구혜택 세분시장에 따른 국내 뫼 해외브랜드에 대한 태도, 쇼핑태도, 구매행동에 관한 연구 (Sportswear Benefit Segments: Attitude toward Domestic and Imported Brands, Shopping Attitude, and Purchasing Behavior)

  • The purposes of this research were to segment consumer groups according to sportswear benefits sought and to find the differences among the groups in regard to domestic vs imported brand attitudes, internet vs department store attitudes, and sportswear purchasing behavior. The subjects used for the research were 773 male and female consumers who were residents in Seoul. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan test. The results showed that there were four sportswear benefit segments: figure compensation/ ostentation, individuality, comfort/function, and youth-oriented groups. Statistical analyses showed that the four sportswear benefit segments were different in regard to imported brand attitudes, department store attitudes, and sportswear purchasing behavior. For example, figure compensation/ ostentation segment had more positive attitude toward imported brands and department stores, considered design and advertisement important as sportswear selection criteria, and had a highest expenditure on sportswear purchase. The implications of the research were discussed.

임의 형상의 금속-유전체-금속 전력배분기판에 대한 빠른 임피던스 계산 방법 (Fast Computation Algorithm for the Impedance Calculation of Irregular Shaped Metal-dielectric-metal Type Power Distribution Plane)

  • This paper presents a method for analyzing irregular shaped power distribution networks. The irregular shaped metal-dielectric-metal plane is split into several piece of rectangular segments to calculate the impedance of the irregular shaped plane. Impedance matrix for each rectangular segments is calculated using the Mobius transform method to reduce the calculation time. Then the segmentation and do-segmentation method is applied to the piece of rectangular segments. Applied to the 6 inch by 5 inch size irregular shaped board, the proposed method shows 10 times faster than the electromagnetic or circuit analysis method.

Mechanical Behavior of Rib-reinforced Precast Cut-and-cover Tunnels by Large-sized Experiments

  • Wide tunnels,such as those with high filling, can suffer limited applicability and also reduced structural stability. Therefore, to improve these limitations of precast cut-and-cover tunnel segments, this study proposes rib reinforcement of the vaults of the precast segments. Large-sized experiments assess the effectiveness of the various rib-reinforced precast arch cut-and-cover tunnel structures, and compare them against otherwise similar non-rib-reinforced specimens. The results show that the rib-reinforced precast cut-and-cover segments are suitable for building wide tunnels with high filling.

내국인 외국인의 식생활라이프스타일에 따른 세분시장별 한식 편의식품 상품화 의견 (Opinion of Commercialization of Ready-to-Eat Korean Foods by Food-Related Lifestyle Segments in Koreans and Non-Koreans)

  • 본 연구는 한식 상품화를 위한 내 외국인들의 식생활라이프스타일을 기초로 시장을 세분화하고, 세분시장의 특성과 한식 즉석편의식품 개발 대상을 규명하였다. 2009년 6월부터 9월에 걸쳐 국내외 거주 또는 방문 내국인과 외국인을 대상으로 편의표본추출 방식으로 설문지를 이용하여 자료를 수집하였고, 총 478명(한국인 266명, 외국인 212명) 자료를 분석하였다. 식생활라이프스타일 17개 항목은 요인분석에 의해 맛추구, 건강추구, 편의추구, 경제추구의 4요인으로 분류한 후 조사대상자의 유형을 군집 분석하였다. 내국인의 세분시장은 건강추구형, 무관심형, 합리추구형, 가격민감형으로 분류되었고, 외국인은 맛추구형, 합리추구형, 무관심형, 편의추구형으로 세분화되었다. 각 세분시장별로 인구통계학적 변수는 서로 차이가 있었고 한식 인지도와 기호도에 차이가 있었다. 내국인과 외국인의 식생활라이프스타일 세분시장별로 상품화 시 구매하고자 하는 제품을 평가한 결과 내국인 중 건강추구형, 가격민감형은 비빔밥을, 외국인 중 맛추구형은 불고기를, 합리추구형과 무관심형은 비빔밥을 상품화가 필요한 제품이라고 응답하였다. 상품화 시 구매하고 싶은 음식은 내국인 중 건강추구형은 잡채, 무관심형은 비빔밥을 꼽았고, 외국인 중 맛추구형은 불고기, 합리추구형과 편의추구형은 잡채, 무관심형은 비빔밥을 선정하였다. 이상과 같이 국내외 한국인과 외국인의 식생활라이프스타일에 따라 시장을 세분화하여 특정 세분시장별로 차별화된 마케팅 전략으로 상품 출시 및 홍보하는 전략이 필요하다. 본 연구의 결과는 한식 즉석편의식품 상품화 시 소비자의 식생활라이프스타일별 시장성이 예상되는 상품들의 전략개발에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
