Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment on the patients suffered from glossitis.Methods : Total five Korean patients suffering from glossitis, 60 and 37 years old male patients, 61, 71 and 49 years old female patients were participated. Each patient received acupuncture treatment(heart hangyeok) twice to five times in same part of the body.Results : We attained meaningful results which show recovery from pustules, ulcers, redness and swelling in visual symptoms and the relief of acute and chronic pain, recovery from paraesthesia, and dysgeusia in subjective symptoms.Conclusions : In this study, acupuncture treatment(heart hangyeok) was effectively controlled inflammation status of glossitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this paper is to report the effect of Korean medicine treatments on allergic contact dermatitis aggravated after applying steroid ointment. Methods : We treated a 63-year-old woman with allergic contact dermatitis on the both forearm, jaw, neck, chest with Korean medicine. Before Korean medicine treatments she has taken oral steroids and applied steroid ointment for several years to treat dermatitis, but long-tern steroid therapy aggravated her symptoms like skin pruritus, erythema, exudates or edema. After Korean medical treatment for 27 days, we found that the size of erythema was reduced, and symptoms like pruritus, exudates and edema were lost. We recorded pictures of changes on symptoms. Results & Conclusions : The symptoms of allergic contact dermatitis were improved. Erythema, edema, exudate were lost. Thus Korean medicine treatments are effective on allergic contact dermatitis and could be a great alternative to steroid treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of a patient with vocal cord contact granuloma that showed improvement through Korean medicine treatment alone. Methods : This study was conducted on patient who has vocal cord contact granuloma for December 23, 2021 to July 30, 2022. The patient was treated with Korean medical treatment including acupuncture, herbal medicine and also corrected lifestyle habits. After treatment, we evaluated the patient's symptoms and used Farwell's grading system to evaluated the size of the granuloma. Results : The patient's symptoms significantly improved and the granuloma disappeared with treatment. Conclusions : It is considered that contact granuloma can be treated without side effects through Korean medical treatment.

Objective : Thread embedding acupuncture has become popular as a minimally invasive treatment for facial wrinkles and laxity. However, there is little published clinical practice guidelines about disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture. This study is to introducing a specific guidelines about disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture.Method : We reviewed internal regulations and guidelines about hospital infection, and Traditional Korean medicine doctors, nurses, and director of central supply room discussed in depth and established a regulation of disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture.Result : The regulation of disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture consisted of ① management of supplies, ② guidelines of disinfection, sterilization, and reuse, ③ aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture.Conclusion : Microbial management is an essential element of medical care and quality. Traditional Korean medicine doctors will care for disinfection, sterilization, and this should not neglect to comply with the procedures and guidelines in the medical field as well as to understand the aseptic techniques.

Objectives : In order to find out the whitening effects of Leonuri Herba, this study was designed to identify the effects and the action mechanism of LHE(Leonuri Herba extract) on Malignant melanoma cell lines. Methods : After treating LHE on the B16F10 cell-Malignant melanoma cell line-, the cell survival rate, melanin biosynthesis rate, intra&extracellular tyrosinase activity rate, SOD-like activity, tyrosinase mRNA gene expression were investigated. The results were compared with control group without LHE treatment or with positive control group treated with whitening efficacy substance. Results : B16F10 cell survival rate, melanin biosynthesis rate, and intra&extracellular tyrosinase activity were significantly inhibited depending on the concentration of treated LHE. Melanin biosynthesis rate and tyrosinase activity rate were also decreased when ${\alpha}-MSH$ was combined with LHE. In addition, the SOD-like activity was increased in a concentration-dependent manner in the treatment with the LHE, indicating signigicant activity at high concentrations, and the tyrosinase mRNA gene expression was decreased in both the LHE-treated group, the LHE and ${\alpha}-MSH-treated$ group. Conclusions : LHE seems to inhibit melanin synthesis through inhibition of tyrosinase activity and inhibition of tyrosinase mRNA gene expression. It also has the effect of promoting SOD-like activity and may be used clinically as a skin whitening agent in the future.

There are many hypothesis about mechanism of acupuncture, and the relationship between acupuncture stimulation and autonomic nervous system(ANS) is one of the powerful hypothesis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between acupuncture stimulation and ANS. We searched the literature and reports related with acupuncture stimulation(meridian system, meridian points) and autonomic nervous system. And we concluded acupuncture stimulation can control autonomic nervous system. We reviewed studies that contributed to an understanding of the autonomic mechanisms of acupuncture with the hope that this review will be of benefit to the acupuncture treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean-Western medicine combination treatment administered to two patients with acute herpes zoster. Methods : During hospitalization, the two patients were treated with Hyeonggaeyeongyotang-gagam, Hwangryunhaedok-tang wet dressing, pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, and other western medications including antiviral and analgesic agents. Photographs of skin lesions, numeric rating scale(NRS), and visual analog scale(VAS) were used to assess the improvement of symptoms. Results : At the time of discharge, both patients showed remarkable improvement in skin lesions, NRS for pain, and VAS for pruritus and insomnia. Conclusions : The results demonstrated that Korean-Western medicine combination treatment may be effective for treating herpes zoster.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to report that effect of Korean medicine treatment for patient with peripheral facial nerve palsy accompanied by hemifacial spasm through hospitalization. Methods : We treated a patient with facial nerve palsy by acupuncture, electroacupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and cupping. The effect of treatment was evaluated using the House-Brackmann scale, the Yanagihara grading system, and the visual analogue scale(VAS). Results : During the 18 days hospitalization period, the symptoms of hemifacial spasm disappeared and the facial palsy improved. The House-Brackmann scale changed from 4 grade to 2 grade, the Yanagihara grading system changed from 19 to 47, and the VAS changed from 3 to 0. Conclusions : This case report suggests that Korean medicine could be effective for facial palsy accompanied by hemifacial spasms.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to report the case improved through Korean Medicine Including Herbal Medicine with Astragali radix, Rehmannia glutinosa as main ingredients, Acupuncture and External Preparation on the treatment of contact dermatitis. Methods : A patient with contact dermatitis was diagnosed through Korean Medicine and treated with Herbal Medicine with Astragali radix, Rehmannia glutinosa as main ingredients, Acupuncture and External preparation. The Degree of itching was assessed with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the severity of wheals and redness on lesion site was assessed through photography. Results : VAS decreased from 9 to 1 and wheals and redness on lesion site was disappeared. Conclusions : According to the result, These findings suggest that Korean Medicine can be effective for the treatment of contact dermatitis.

Objectives : The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) is 10-40% worldwide and there are many demands for Traditionl Medicine (TM) treatment for AR. Pattern identification (PI) is essential process in diagnosis and treatment of TM, however, objective assessment measurement for PI of AR in TM is lacked. Methods : PI questionnaire for AR was developed in 2008 by specialists in the department of Otolaryngology of TM, based on systemic and nasal symptoms and signs. However, that questionnaire had many problems in application to clinical practice and has since been revised based on several studies and delphi method. Consequently, the PI questionnaire for AR version 3.0 has been developed. Results & Conclusions : This questionnaire classifies patients with AR as possessing lung-heat, lung-cold, or spleen qi deficiency based on nasal symptoms and general conditions of AR patients. This is first questionnaire for pattern identification of AR. We plan to conduct a validation and reliability study, and revise the questionnaire based on the results of this study.
