  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the strategic development model for the Taegu University Library preparing the 21st century. The results of the study are summarized as follows. 1. Size of collection aim to 697,000 volumes and 1,605 titles until 2000, 975,000 volumes and 3,224 titles until 2005, and 1,185,000 volumes and journals of 6,482 titles until 2010. 2. The library should have 36 professionals until 2000, 53 professionals until 2005, and 69 professionals until 2,010. And library should reorganize 3 departments and 14 sections up to 2,000, 6 departments and 22 sections up to 2,010. After that, the university should grope for a best way to combine the library and the CCC (Computing and Communication Center) into a single unit. 3. In case of space plan, it is necessary that library have to the total area of 31,478m$^{2}$. To find the recommended area, the library must improve the ratio of the net space 50 percent to 75 percent. 4. The model of scholarly information system should be designed to provide a total array of information services to the students and professors, envisioned as typically a user seeking information at a desk and workstation, regardless of format or computing capacity.

  • Outcome indicators measuring public libraries´ impact on the community and individual community members have a great utility on the accountability improvement better management and role enhancement. This study identifies such areas of demonstrating public library impacts as economic value, social contribution, and information literacy, by literature review. A framework pertinent to develop public library outcome indicators is suggested for implementing outcome based evaluation in an individual public library´s environment.

  • The evolution of librarian job is influenced by the change of paradigm in library. in theses days, a "good job" is the job that is sensing the changes and applying them in the field. The research is the comparison between '70s and 80s' and 21st century's tasks as a librarian; the law of library, the standards, the influence of department on library and job analysis. The results; the number of technical services have been reduced while professional information services increased as well as media resources. This is because they are trying to satisfy all kind of users. The librarians are acquiring of digital resources, preserving the resources, preparing on-line access, cooperating with other information centers to adjust the great increase of work in digital library.

  • This Study reviewed 86 research articles using inferential statistics published in 2001-2004 in 4 korean core journals in the field of library and information science. Sampling methods, response rates and nonresponse bias, reliability test, and inferential statistic techniques used in the articles were critically reviewed and analyzed. Nonprobability sampling was mostly used. Average response rate was 74.47%. Parametric statistics were mostly used. Some misunderstandings in using each inferential statistics, especially Reliability Test, Multiple Regression, Factor Analysis, MDS, etc. were reported in this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of information commons and learning commons that has emerged in recent years, and point out the difference between the two concepts, as well as its implications for public libraries, which get lessons learned from learning commons at Japanese public libraries. To track its evolution to learning commons, the theoretical component of learning commons was analyzed. Based on the reference, a research framework for the case study of learning commons was developed. With IT technology diffusion, libraries have become information commons. However, the main mission of libraries should basically remain as learning. Because of this, libraries which function as information commons should go back to being learning commons, which are primarily places of learning. This research shows that libraries should stress its original basic mission which is learning, beyond being information commons in the Japanese library.

  • A national library is a library specifically established and administrated by the government of a nation to serve as the repository of knowledge and information for that country. National libraries are generally a county's designated national repository, collecting literature Published in the country, in the language of the country, or about the country they represent. In case of advanced countries, national libraries have more than one branches at many different locations. Its system is called the distributed national library system. But the National Library of Korea maintains a centralized library system located in Seoul. This research which it tries to pay attention in this problem Point extracted a logical ground and suggested the mid-long term basic plan(S-shaved Branch Library Project) for a National Library of Korea to convert and reconstruct from centralized system to centralized-distributed system.

  • This study reports the first step in the Classification-based Search and Knowledge Discovery (CSKD) project, which aims to combine information organization and retrieval approaches for building digital library applications. In this study, we explored the generation and application of a faceted vocabulary as a potential mechanism to enhance knowledge discovery. The faceted vocabulary construction process revealed some heuristics that can be refined in follow-up studies to further automate the creation of faceted classification structure, while our concept search application demonstrated the utility and potential of integrating classification-based approach with retrieval-based approach. Integration of text- and classification-based methods as outlined in this paper combines the strengths of two vastly different approaches to information discovery by constructing and utilizing a flexible information organization scheme from an existing classification structure.

  • The development of library cultural programs provides educational information which can only be produced from library. It helps user's to recognize the value of library, and aims at expanding the usage of library information. This paper indicates "children puppet performance" is possible ways to find library identity in providing cultural programs, and suggests guidelines for managing the programs and supporting users. The program management section is divided into several aspects; user service, development of book collection, information service, and advertisement. In terms of user services, the paper suggests watching performances, exhibition projects, creation of related societies, puppet workshop training, and developing library cultural programs. In the development of library collections, the paper indicates usage of library resources, the effects of expanding book collection, education on information usage. In cooperating section, this paper will see the ways to connect library cultural programs to other cultural institutions.
