Objective: The purpose of this study was to report the effect of traditional Korean medicine (TKM) in alleviating the side effects of lung cancer patient undergoing immunotherapy. Method: A 43-year-old man, who was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, received pembrolizumab treatments. The patient was treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine (Geoeoyangpye-tang) to control various uncomfortable symptoms. The degree of pain was measured by the numeric rating scale (NRS). The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the EORTC 13-item lung cancer-specific module (EORTC LC-13 questionnaire) were used to assess the change in the quality of life. Results: After the TKM treatment, the flank pain and arthralgia based on the NRS were significantly improved. Various uncomfortable symptoms such as fatigue, dyspnea, insomnia, and loss of appetite were also significantly improved, based on the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-LC13. The size of the primary tumor was decreased during treatment. The disease status was stable radiologically after two months from discharge.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to improve the accessibility of Korean medicine by standardizing managements, improving quality of medical services, and reducing medical costs in ankle sprain by develop clinical pathway (CP). Methods The development of CP in this study is based on clinical practice guideline (CPG) for ankle sprain, and aims to maximize the quality of treatment, such as reducing treatment time and medical costs, and increasing patient satisfaction through standardized pathway. The CP was revised after consultation and review by the advisory committee. The advisory committee is consisted of a stakeholder group applying the CP. Results In previous research studies, there were no Korean medicine CP studies on ankle sprain. Based on CPG for ankle sprain and analysis of medical records, 6 types of time task matrix type CP (for Korean medicine doctors, medical assistant, patients) and 4 types of algorithm type CP (for Korean medicine clinics, Korean medicine hospitals, and cooperative practicing hospitals, public medical centers) were derived as a result. Conclusions Ankle sprain CP is expected to not only increase patient satisfaction and maximize the quality of treatment, but also reduce the financial burden of health insurance by reducing medical costs.

Objectives : The objective of this study is to predict how future infectious diseases will affect healthcare utilization patterns within korean medicine hospitals and, specifically, departments of ophthalmology, otolaryngology and dermatology of Korean medicine. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed medical records of patients who visited Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital during Pre COVID-19(from March 1st, 2018 to Feb 29th, 2019) and Post COVID-19(from March 1st, 2019 to Feb 28th, 2022). The data was analyzed by visit type and diagnosed disease code. Results : 1. After the COVID-19 break-out, the number of first visit patients increased but those of revisit patients, total patients, and revisit/first visit ratio decreased in all departments. 2. In Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital, the decrease rate of the number of total patients diagnosed with diseases of respiratory system(J00-J99) was the highest, while that for diseases of circulatory system(I00-I99) was the lowest. 3. In the department of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology of Korean Medicine, the decrease rate of the number of total patients with nose disease was the highest, followed by eye disease and ear disease. 4. In the department of Dermatology of Korean Medicine, the number of total patients with dermatitis remained consistent, while the number of total patients with skin appendage disease showed relatively high decrease rate. Conclusions : Severe or chronic diseases showed relatively low decrease rate of the number of total patients. While mild diseases or diseases with high probability of exposure to COVID-19 infection during treatment showed high decrease rate of the number of total patients.

The Korean Society of Heart Failure guidelines aim to provide physicians with evidence-based recommendations for diagnosing and managing patients with heart failure (HF). In Korea, the prevalence of HF has been rapidly increasing in the last 10 years. HF has recently been classified into HF with reduced ejection fraction (EF), HF with mildly reduced EF, and HF with preserved EF (HFpEF). Moreover, the availability of newer therapeutic agents has led to an increased emphasis on the appropriate diagnosis of HFpEF. Accordingly, this part of the guidelines will mainly cover the definition, epidemiology, and diagnosis of HF.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to review studies that utilized domestic secondary data in Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM). Methods : We identified variables and values related to TKM of 24 secondary data sources, and searched studies from 6 databases (PubMed, RISS, KISS, NDSL, KMBASE, OASIS). Results : There were 13 secondary data sources including variables and values related TKM, and 23 articles were included in this study. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop high-quality secondary data sources that are suitable to TKM system in accordance with national policy.
