The purpose of this study was to extract accurate parameters of facial movement features using 3-D motion capture system in speech recognition technology through lip-reading. Instead of using the features obtained through traditional camera image, the 3-D motion system was used to obtain quantitative data for actual facial movements, and to analyze 11 variables that exhibit particular patterns such as nose, lip, jaw and cheek movements in monosyllable vocalizations. Fourteen subjects, all in 20s of age, were asked to vocalize 11 types of Korean vowel monosyllables for three times with 36 reflective markers on their faces. The obtained facial movement data were then calculated into 11 parameters and presented as patterns for each monosyllable vocalization. The parameter patterns were performed through learning and recognizing process for each monosyllable with speech recognition algorithms with Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and Viterbi algorithm. The accuracy rate of 11 monosyllables recognition was 97.2%, which suggests the possibility of voice recognition of Korean language through quantitative facial movement analysis.
Among the techniques to protect private information by adopting biometrics, speaker verification is expected to be widely used due to advantages in convenient usage and inexpensive implementation cost Speaker verification should achieve a high degree of the reliability in the verification nout the flexibility in speech text usage, and the efficiency in verification system complexity. Continuants have excellent speaker-discriminant power and the modest number of phonemes in the category, and multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) have superior recognition ability and fast operation speed. In consequence, the two provide viable ways for speaker verification system to obtain the above properties. This paper implements a system to which continuants and MLPs are applied, and evaluates the system using a Korean speech database. The results of the experiment prove that continuants and MLPs enable the system to acquire the three properties.

The deep learning based speech enhancement has shown considerable success. However, it still suffers performance degradation under mismatch conditions. In this paper, an adaptation method is proposed to improve the performance under noise mismatch conditions. Firstly, we advise a noise aware training by supplying identity vectors (i-vectors) as parallel input features to adapt deep neural network (DNN) acoustic models with the target noise. Secondly, given a small amount of adaptation data, the noise-dependent DNN is obtained by using $L_2$ regularization from a noise-independent DNN, and forcing the estimated masks to be close to the unadapted condition. Finally, experiments were carried out on different noise and SNR conditions, and the proposed method has achieved significantly 0.1%-9.6% benefits of STOI, and provided consistent improvement in PESQ and segSNR against the baseline systems.
In this paper, we derive finite-dimensional non-linear fil-ters for optimally reconstructing speech signals in Switched Predic-tion vocoders, Code Excited Linear Prediction(CELP) and Differ-ential Pulse Code Modulation (DPCM). Our filter is an extension of the Hidden Markov filter.

Spoofing attacks, especially replay attacks, pose great security challenges to automatic speaker verification (ASV) systems. Current works on replay attacks detection primarily focused on either developing new features or improving classifier performance, ignoring the effects of feature variability, e.g., the channel variability. In this paper, we first establish a mathematical model for replay speech and introduce a method for eliminating the negative interference of the channel. Then a novel feature is proposed to detect the replay attacks. To further boost the detection performance, four post-processing methods using normalization techniques are investigated. We evaluate our proposed method on the ASVspoof 2017 dataset. The experimental results show that our approach outperforms the competing methods in terms of detection accuracy. More interestingly, we find that the proposed normalization strategy could also improve the performance of the existing algorithms.

All types of part-of-speech (POS) tagging errors have been equally treated by existing taggers. However, the errors are not equally important, since some errors affect the performance of subsequent natural language processing seriously while others do not. This paper aims to minimize these serious errors while retaining the overall performance of POS tagging. Two gradient loss functions are proposed to reflect the different types of errors. They are designed to assign a larger cost for serious errors and a smaller cost for minor errors. Through a series of experiments, it is shown that the classifier trained with the proposed loss functions not only reduces serious errors but also achieves slightly higher accuracy than ordinary classifiers.
