  • Motion picture industry is one of the most representative fields in the cultural industry and has experienced constant growth both worldwide and within domestic markets. However, little research has been undertaken for diffusion patterns of motion pictures, whereas various issues such as demand forecasting and success factor analysis have been widely explored. To analyze diffusion patterns, we adopted extended Bass model to reflect the potential demand of movies. Four clusters of selected movies were derived by k-means clustering method with criteria of opening strength and profitability and then compared by their diffusion patterns. Results indicated that movies with high profitability and medium opening strength are most significantly influenced by word of mouth effect, while low profitability movies display nearly monotonic decreasing diffusion patterns with noticeable initial adoption rates and relatively early peak points in their runs.

  • The Korean film market has revved up against American movies and the movie industry has continued to grow even though Korea is a small country. However, most production staffs who are responsible for practical business of film production get wages that fall short of the inflation rate and minimum wages as temporary employees. And there's the atmosphere that they try to leave film sites on the first opportunity. This study finds that the cause to leave film sites is attributed to perception gaps about the hardworking character and labor which occur in the process that production staffs enter the movie industry and participate in film production as well as poor surroundings. And it should establish staffs' hardworking character and recognition as workers to them by reorganizing the current curriculums which approach movies from the only artistic viewpoint in the departments related to movies and images that hold a large majority in their majors, establishing the concept of work according to participation in film production to potential production staffs, and changing their recognition to improve the elements that they leave the sites.

  • This paper proposes data mining models relevant to the serial publication periods and mobile gamification likelihood of webtoon contents which were either serialized or completed in platform. The size of the cartoon industry including webtoon takes merely 1% of the total entertainment contents industry in Korea. However, the significance of webtoon business is rapidly growing because its intellectual property can be easily used as an effective OSMU (One Source Multi-Use) vehicle for multiple types of contents such as movie, drama, game, and character-related merchandising. We suggested a set of data mining classifiers that are deemed suitable to provide prediction models for serial publication periods and mobile gamification likelihood for the sake of webtoon contents. As a result, the balanced accuracies are respectively recorded as 85.0% and 59.0%, from the two models.

  • 3,000 years ago, since the first poster of humanity appeared in Egypt, the invention of printing technique and the development of civilization have accelerated the poster production technology. In keeping with this, the expression of poster has also been developed as an attempt to express artistic sensibility in a simple arrangement of characters, and now it has become an art form that has become a domain of professional designers. However, the technological development in the expression of poster is keep staying in two-dimensional, and is dependent on printing only that it is irrelevant to the change of ICT environment based on modern multimedia. Especially, among the many kinds of posters, the style of movie posters, which are the only objects for video, are still printed on paper, and many attempts have been made so far, but the movie industry still does not consider ICT integration at all. This study started with the feature that the object of the movie poster dealt with the video and attempted to introduce the augmented reality to apply the dynamic image of the movie to the static poster. In the graduation work of the media design major of a university in Korea, the poster of each works for promoting the visual work of the students was designed and printed in the form of a commercial film poster. Among them, 6 artworks that are considered to be suitable for augmented reality were selected and augmented reality was introduced and exhibited. Content that appears matched to the poster through the mobile device is reproduced on a poster of a scene of the video, but the text informations of the original poster are kept as they are, so that is able to build a moving poster looked like a wanted from the movie "Harry Potter". In order to produce this augmented reality poster, we applied augmented reality to posters of existing commercial films produced in two different formats, and found a way to increase the characteristics of AR contents. Through this, we were able to understand poster design suitable for AR representation, and technical expression for stable operation of augmented reality can be summarized in the matching process of augmented reality contents production.

This can be one of the success model of the animation for movie theater, considering it has had trouble not only in planning ability and scenario power but also in producing environment where subcontracts are prevalent. This box office hit seems to have been possible through cooperation and division of movie crews and animation crews. Many kinds of materials are reviewed and producer Kim Seonku was interviewed for analysis of the reasons of box office success. Followings are five reasons of success found as the result of analysis and the body of this article is composed of the argument and analysis of each. 1.This animation was planned and produced in the same way of commercial feature films. 2.There was detailed division of work while producing 3. Various kinds of investments were made sequentially, 4. Major film distributor like Lotte and CJ could be motivated 5. There were producers who can mediate between the animation and film field This study suggests the direction both in the aspect of industry and the aspect of training professionals as the result of analysis. In the industrial aspect, transitional cooperation is needed between animation filed and film field which can motivate distributor. Industrial approach like planning, investment, distribution and marketing is absolute for the success of animation for movie theater. • Since the placement of the THAAD missiles has recently cooled the relationship between Korea and China, many Korea-China joint films and entertainment businesses have collapsed. To make matters worse, there is also many opinions for "Korea-China joint film useless" in China through the results of many Korea-China joint films. In my opinion, the causes of failures of the Korea-China joint films are the lack of understanding and experience of Korean filmmakers in the Chinese film industry. So, By examining the history of Chinese cinema in this paper, I want to establish the character formation of the Chinese film industry. And cause a criminal-thriller genre has to undergo more stringer censorship than any other genre, I will introduce the production process of remake of the Korean film . By introducing the censorship method of the Chinese film industry and the actual cases applied, I want to help understand the present status of Chinse film industry. Also, I intend to give some proposals to Korean filmmakers preparing a Korea-China joint film, and express my brief opinion for the development of the Korea-China joint film industry.

  • In 2006, the number of days of the screen quota (theatrical movie screening days of Korean produced films in a year required by the law) was reduced to 73 days from 146 days per year. Three years after the reduction of screen quota, this paper studies the impact of reduction of screen quota system on Korean produced films. Using Non-parametric statistics, Gini Index and Regression analysis, this study shows that the average number of Korean moviegoer of Korean films which was released last three years(2007-2009) after the cutback of screen quota in 2006 is reduced to 640,109.9123 from 1,107,217.82 for three years(2003-2005) before the cutback. And this is significant in statistics. while Hollywood film gets 76,168,518 more audiences than the total number of audience for 2003-2005, the total numbers of Korean films is cut to 218,917,590 (2007-2009) from 245,802,356 (2003-2005). Gini Index of 2009(0.84) indicates that the inequality of a distribution of box office performance of Korean films is getting worse after the cutback. For now, the reduction of screen quota has negative effects for Korean films. Only the technological advance, education of relates personnel, redesigning of the related infrastructure, market-driven movies, creative production, and the promotion of the independent films can reduced the negative effects.
