  • This study is on Yoshimasu Todo's thought of medicines. Conclusions are as below. Medicines are poisons. Therefore, they don't have the ability to restore the vital energy. Medicine-processing(法製) can only be done for doubling the toxicity, since the poison itself is the very effect of a medicine. One poison has an ability to treat only one main symptom. If the poison strikes the main symptom right, it doesn't harm the human body. Since warm-heat-cool-cold(溫熱凉寒) of a medicine can't be known by human ability, it can't be used as the standard of judgment when selecting a medicine.

  • "Uibanghappyeon(醫方合編)" is a large-scale medical formulary with "Samuiilheombang(三意一驗方)" and "Chon-gagugeupbang(村家救急方)" at its core, combined with personal experience of the compiler and various pieces of fragmentary knowledge. This book was brought into existence through the cumulation of numerous folk medicinal remedies and cannot be considered a work of professional expertise. The historic worth of this book in medicine can be found in the fact that it has kept the tradition of empirical medicine based on first sia alive, in fusing the practice of late Joseon(朝鮮) empirical prescriptions, as can be seen in "Samuiilheombang(三意一驗方)", and the practice of empirical medicine, as can be seen in "Chon-gagugeupbang(村家救急方)", together.

  • Objectives : Through the comparative study on cases of acupuncture therapy in Sanhanlun(傷寒論), it would be expected to comprehend the theory of acupuncture for external contraction(外感). Methods : It has been done to analyse provisions of Sanghanlun, Hwangdineijing(黃帝內經), Nanjing(難經) related with acupuncture, and to compare the symptoms reported in Hwangdimingtangjing(黃帝明堂經) to Shanghanlun. Results : Most symptoms of the acupuncture points in Shanghanlun correspond with those in Hwangdimingtangjing. Visceral manifestation theory could explain the reason why some acupuncture points in Shanghanlun were selected, but Meridian theory could in 1 case only. Some provisions show that acupuncture was treated to increase the effect of medicines and the others to replace medicines. Conclusions : The main principle to select acupuncture in Shanghanlun were the effectiveness of each point and visceral manifestation. Acupuncture was tried to increase or replace the effect of medicines.

  • There were so many discussions about the importance of Ungi theory, but little about its application. But, in Korea, there is particular Ungi medical system. I studied the 25 organic constitutions and their prescriptions and concluded like below. In "Ounyukgihanihakbogam(五運六氣漢醫學寶鑑)", "Ounyukgihak(五運六氣學)", there are 25 organic constitutions, and each of them has its basic prescription. Like above, In "Ounyukgigeummoksuhwatosangsaengsanggeukbeop(五運六氣金木水火土相生相克法)", "Ounyukgigyeongheomcheobang(五運六氣經驗處方)", and "Jesaenglon(濟生論)", there are also 25 organic constitutions, and each has basic prescription. Moreover, there are so many prescriptions for diseases can often occur. I classified these as three groups, "Ounyukgihak(五運六氣學)" is groupⅠ, "Ounyukgihanihakbogam(五運六氣漢醫學寶鑑)" is Ⅱ, and the other books is Ⅲ, and compared each basic prescriptions. GroupⅠand Ⅱ use similar prescriptions, but groupⅢ doesn't. This Ungi medical system has little relation with "Somun(素問)". And I couldn't find the organic constitutions based on Ungi from other country's oriental medical book. 25 organic constitutions have much sameness in prescriptions. These prescriptions are used in real medical system, but not wide. Of course, it needs more research, but it has another position in oriental medicine.

  • We have known that "Chimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成)" had been written by Yanggyeju(楊繼洲) in Ming(明) dynasty. And it had been the only text book of acupuncture & moxibustion for 300 years. This book is composed of 10 chapters dealing almost all the medical theories of that times. This book is so enormous that it is hard to understand essential ideas of author. The reading medical records is one of the best way to develop one's abilities of curing a disease without clinical practice. so we can't help dealing with medical records, because it is one of important method of understanding Oriental Medicine. On this study, we investigate a objective method on understanding medical records in "Chimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成)".
