Landscape Architecture is the everlasting theme while the architecture is the concretionary symbol. In other words, greening system is the only living infrastructure in city. Sour of a city regional cultural connotation is decided by the city owners and presented as the exterior style and features by architecture, road, and context and landscape etc. This passage will discuss the outward manifestation and interior relationship, trend of development of Shanghai Style landscape and culture. In addition, trying to discern the progress trend of landscape in big city is also what will be talk about.
The main purpose of this paper is to explore the paradigm shifts of landscape studies in Anglophone cultural and historical geography. By analyzing the work of the Berkley School in the 1950s and 1960s, the advance of humanistic geography in the 1970s, the revival of cultural geography in the 1980s ("new cultural geography"), and the recent development of non-representational geography, this paper demonstrates that the paradigms of landscape studies in Anglophone cultural and historical geography have been changed. By giving buoyancy to the concept of 'Affect'-a kind of 'spatio-bodily-magnetic relation'-as an essence of non-representational geography, I provide an easy way for understanding the implications of non-representational geography. In addition to this, re-conceptualising Non-Representational Theory (NRT) based non-representational geography as 'Kyung-Chi Jirihak' in Korean lexicon context, it is suggested that what the directions of landscape studies of cultural and historical geography of Korea should be and how it can be set up in the paradigm shifts.

This study is aimed at understanding the wisdom of our ancestors in Korean traditional villages and finding out cues to designate and utilize community space in planning residential area in villages by examining community space in Korean traditional villages from cultural landscape point of view. This study designated 18 Korean traditional villages which have been preserving Korean traditional culture up to now, so deserve conservation from historical, cultural and artistic viewpoint. This study divided community spaces in each village into social area and ritual area depending on their uses and functions based on the results of pilot study and main study. In addition, ritual areas were also divided into Confucian ritual area and ethnic ritual area. Specifically, this study examined characteristics of space location and users by understanding the location of community space factors in the 18 villages. As for the factor analysis of community spaces, community factors established after the modern age were examined from modern viewpoint, and factors which had been destroyed or lost their original functions were examined from retrospective viewpoint. In conclusion, this study found out that cultural landscape in Korean traditional villages were affected by social relationship among villagers. The community spaces of villagers were multiple-function space rather than a space which was exclusively used by a specific class. Though the occupation of these spaces was separated and differentiated depending on sexes and ages, villagers tried to understand and respect each other through tacit communication.

Rural areas dominates the country landscapes in size with less population and rich traditional heritages as well as natural landscapes. Rural community groves (RCG) and Dangsan groves have been established by community residents during a few hundred years, and most of them have been disturbed. Only a few RCGs and Dangsan groves remain for an extensive period with efforts from community residents. These remnant RCGs and Dangsan groves are highly evaluated representing Korean rural cultural landscapes. Sound understanding on the structure of the rural landscapes and their role on the rural community environment is required to provide an appropriate policy for managing rural landscapes. This study aims to understand the characteristics of RCGs and Dangsan groves in the cultural landscapes, to investigate policies and issues of the advanced countries on RCGs and Dangsan groves, and to overview domestic policies for rural landscapes. The study results showed that there is a close relationship between RCGs and main issues discussed in EU countries. Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry of Korea, Ministry of Environment and Rural Development Administration have to focus on the potential of RCGs and Dangsan groves for multi-functions of agricultural and rural areas, natural streams, rural amenity, direct subsidy for landscape preservation and rural tourism. Based on the findings, this study suggests that RCGs and Dangsan groves will provide benefits to develop rural-mountain-sea villages and to enhance country's landscapes as well as local landscapes.

This study is the result of a design proposal to create a history and culture complex for the "Gungjip," an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage, and its surroundings located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. In particular, the purpose is to introduce a new design approach to a historical and cultural complex consisting of the Gungjip House and Hanok annexes to be opened to the public in the future; and to provide its implications for future study. Although the architectural condition of Gungjip House is well preserved, several problems have been found in the use of the site as a public space due to the lack of a plan for systematic space experience, lack of specific spatial programs, and the too much shade due to uncontrolled green areas, etc. Therefore, the plan presented in this study largely sought to respect the meaning of historical landscape as a public space and to balance with the contemporary needs. The design strategies derived through basic research are to strengthen the sense of place as a cultural heritage; to respect the ecological characteristics of the site and visual harmony with the surrounding environment; and to suggest spatial programs suitable for the contemporary needs. Based on these strategies, the framework for the entire space is conceptually composed of four spaces; Oewon, Ganjeong, Jujeong, and Huwon, and proposes systematical land use and landscape experience. The main feature of this plan is the landscape approach, which aims to preserve the architectural cultural assets in their original form, but to create a reasonable land use and meaningful landscape experience based on the sense of place.

As architecture has a role of vessel that contains human life, architecture of museums in a region must be a vessel that contains identity of the region. Jeju Province possesses excellent natural landscape acknowledged by the world. As such, architectural design of museums in Jeju region, differentiated in terms of natural, humanistic and cultural characteristics from other regions, must include identity of Jeju. Jeju has established and is operating so many museums with different themes that it is referred to as the heaven of museums. In addition, museums as cultural facilities must be the measure of cultural level representing regional identity and perform the role of advance guard that leads architectural culture of the region. Also, such excellent architectural asset is an important landscape element that increases value of the region. Based on Landscape Management Guideline established in 2009 by Jeju Special Self-governing Province under such critical mind, this study will support design problems and improvements of museums through case study and analysis on design characteristics of national and private museums in Jeju. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data to be pursued by future museums that contain identity of Jeju, based upon the results of analysis described above.

The purpose of this study was to identify the development and transition of the Original landscape(始景觀) of Oeam Village based on the landscape that changes over time and the relevant factors and the following summarizes the findings: First, Original landscape perceived by the ancestors of Korea was identified in the description of topography and landscape of Oeam Village mentioned in various literature such as "Oeamgi(巍巖記)" and topography was analyzed to identify that the natural waters that flew before Oeam Village was formed aligned with the artificial waterway inside the village. Second, the landscape of Oeam Village was classified by characterized events: (1) expansion of the tribal town of the Yi Family of Yean, (2) stagnancy where the villagers formed an organic relationship without much change to the landscape, (3) the biggest change to the landscape by national policies, and (4) preservation and use of tourism resources based on preservation of cultural heritage. Third, the center of village moved from the east of village to the west of village. In the past, the east of village provided agricultural functions for the development and expansion of village. The center later shifted to the entrance to the west of village under the influence of industrialization and tourism. Further studies would be necessary to clarify the authenticity of resources through additional literature for better understanding of the past of Oeam Village and the transition of the village's landscape elements and the comparison of their characteristics could be possible topics for future studies.

In drafting the standards on changes in current conditions, the height or the number of stories is applied in a restrictive manner by limiting to securing the distance to vertical surface for cultural properties within the influence investigation area, but this is expected to have a negative impact on the surrounding sceneries as well as results in the dwarfing phenomenon for precious cultural properties. That is, the preparation for supplementing the insufficient objectivity that is likely to take place during the process of drafting the standards on changes in current conditions. Thus the author attempts to suggest the analytic method for the decision making related to objective and reasonable determination and regulation of the changes in current conditions through computer based simulation work that considers the cultural properties and surrounding environments under investigation. In order to achieve such research objectives, the author reviewed the subject sites where the cultural property dwarfing phenomenon was expected to occur in case of the permission for the changes in current conditions or where the impact of natural landscape and natural feature on the earth is less than architectural building or artificial structure or where the new policy program is likely to be adopted due to incomplete establishment of current condition change standard within influence investigation area, among other cultural properties with architectural building or artificial structure nearby located in Cheonan city and then selected Cheonansaji Dangganjiju(flag poles) and Jiksanhyun Gwana(government office). The author then undertook the quantitative visibility analysis in order to determine the comprehensive prospect rights for the cultural properties and surrounding environments concerned.

This research is an introductory study that hopes to interpret the cultural scenic landscape by analyzing Korea's mountains, streams, topography, color, light, human behavior, and more based on real landscape paintings. It places its purpose on understanding our intrinsic cultural scenic landscape by investigating the changed topography and the differing life patterns caused bythe active national land development after the modern era. With Seoul, which is now difficult to find images of its past, and the surrounding areas of the Han riverbed, the interpretation related to its original topography, landscape, climate, weather, and human behaviors was observed while the main focus was placed on the climate of the perception held by people regarding Mt. Geumgang and other ranges which are not fully opened to the public yet. In order to comprehensively analyze the figures of features and appearing landscapes including color, light, and more, it was described through the concept called climate. Hereupon, the real landscape paintings by Gyunjae(Jeong-Seon), mainly bearing features of existing Korean mountains, wereutilized as visual historical material. However, not having all his works, other pieces with representative characteristics were utilized such as "Gyeong-Gyo-Myeong-Seung-Chup(a painting with picturesque sceneries around old Seoul)" and "Hae-Ak-Jeon-Shin-Chup(a landscape painting including even the spirits of the seas and mountains)" which contain the regions' distinct scenery. As a result, the old cultural scenic landscapes of Korea are regarded as containing diverse mountains and where the conceptions of the treatment of mountains were reflected.

With the awareness that Sinyeongwol Sipgyeong(ten scenic spots in Yeongwol) were designed too hastily and only for PR purposes after the change in the tourism environment, this paper indicates that most tourism and culture sources in Yeongwol are related to King Danjong, the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. This study proposes a 'Storytelling Plan' for the landscape content called 'Cultural Landscapes - Yeongwol Palgyeong(eight scenic spots in Yeongwol)' after reviewing types and content of Yeongwol Palgyeong through the halo effect of the well-known sad history of King Danjong and the cultural value of Yeongwol. The significance of the unity of the historic site and neighboring landscape is focused on by investigating the anaphoric relations between cultural landscape texts('Yeongwol Palgyeong') and historic content(the sad history of King Danjong). For this, the cultural lnddscape of Yeongwol has been framed and layered to make spatial texts. To emphasize the 'Telling' as well as the 'Story,' interesting episodes have been reviewed to discover a motive. To diversify the 'Telling' methods, absorptive landscape factors have been classified as 'Place,' 'Object' and 'Visual Point.' In addition the storytelling of Yeongwol Palgyeong was examined in consideration of the story and background of 'Yeongwol Palgyeong - Sad Story of King Danjong' and the interaction of a variety of cultural content by suggesting micro-content such as infotainment and edutainment as absorptive landscape factors. In order to make the storytelling plan available in practice as an alternative plan for Yeongwol Tourism, a visual point should be properly set to make the landscape look sufficiently dynamic. In addition, real landscape routes and narration scenarios should be prepared as well. Professional landscape interpreters who are well informed of the natural features of Yeongwol and the history of King Danjong should be brought into the project, and Internet and digital technology-based strategies should be developed.
