The purpose of this study was to provide basic data on counseling, education, and treatment related to orthodontic practices through an understanding of the relationships between orthodontic treatment, oral health-related quality of life, and happiness of high school students. The subjects in this study were 500 students in Grades 1~3 of a high school in Jeollabuk-do. We conducted a survey targeting this group; the results revealed the following: in the social support item, peer support showed significant differences in the matter of orthodontic treatment (p<0.05). In oral health-related quality of life, the students without orthodontic treatment showed 14.09 scores that were higher than the students with treatment (p<0.05). Regarding happiness, the students with orthodontic treatment showed higher scores which were significantly different from the those of the non-orthodontic treatment group (p<0.05). Additionally, upon examining the correlations between self-esteem, social support, oral health-related quality of life, and happiness, oral health-related quality of life, peer support, and happiness showed the negative (-) correlations while the rest of the variables showed the positive correlations (p<0.05). The factors having effects on oral health-related quality of life included the stress, matter of orthodontic treatment, and teachers support (p<0.05). The factors having effects on happiness included self-esteem, peer support, and family support (p<0.05). Based on the above results, even though dental orthodontic treatment had negative effects on oral health-related quality of life, it had positive effects on happiness. Consequently, it would seem necessary to seek active methods to increase oral health-related quality of life. This improvement could be achieved by minimizing inconveniences, such as mastication, in the process of dental orthodontic treatment, and developing programs that could enhance happiness.

Objective: To determine whether characteristics of sperm motility obtained by computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) could predict pregnancy after intrauterine insemination (IUI) in couples with unexplained infertility. Methods: Three hundred eighty-three cycles of intrauterine insemination with superovulation were retrospectively analyzed. Semen analysis was performed with CASA before and after swim-up and the parameters were compared between pregnant and non-pregnant women. Results: The pregnancy rate per cycle was 14.1%. Pregnant and non-pregnant women were comparable in terms of age, infertility duration, the number of dominant follicles. While sperm concentration, motility, and parameters such as average path velocity (VAP) and percentage rapid (RAPID) before semen preparation were significantly different between the pregnancy and non-pregnancy groups, there were no differences in sperm parameters when comparing the two groups after preparation. Using a receiver operating characteristic curve to measure sensitivity and specificity, the optimal threshold value for the predictors of pregnancy was revealed to be a concentration of ${\geq}111{\times}10^6/mL$, a motility of ${\geq}$ 51.4%, and RAPID ${\geq}$ 30.1% before preparation for IUI. Conclusion: Sperm parameters including concentration, motility, and RAPID before sperm preparation could have predictive value for pregnancy outcome after intrauterine insemination with superovulation in couples with unexplained infertility, and would be helpful when counseling patients before they make the decision to proceed with IVF/ICSI-ET.
The purpose of this study is to explore related variables to influence gifted college students' career conviction and to propose a structural model. For the study, 292 college students who have experienced university affiliated gifted education program during their school days. Rational decision making test, intrinsic motivation test, career decision efficacy test, and major conviction test were utilized. SPSS program and AMOS were used for statistical analyses. The results are summarized as follows. The fit of measurement model was found to be TLI=.923, CFI=.951, RMSEA=.077, indicating most of the fit indexes were acceptable. The path to career conviction from rational decision making and intrinsic motivation was found to be insignificant, suggesting a revised model. The fit of final revised measurement model was found to be TLI =.926, CFI=.951, RMSEA=.075, indicating the model was acceptable. Interestingly, the career decision efficacy was found to be the complete mediator among the rational decision making, intrinsic motivation, and career conviction. The results of the study showed that career decision efficacy has a very important role in gifted college students'career choice and decision. Implication of the study related to the career education and counseling has been discussed in depth.
