The beat distribution property of the King Seong-deok Divine Bell is investigated by experiment and analysis. The beat map method is proposed to explain the beat distribution property on the circumference of the bell. For the analytical investigation, an analytical model of the vibration beat is derived on a slightly asymmetric shell of revolution by using the modal expansion method. In the analytical method, the beat map can be drawn only if the modal parameters of the bell are obtained. The analytical beat model is applied to draw the beat map of the King Seong-deok Divine Bell. The validity of the analytical method is verified by comparing the analytical beat maps with the experimental results. This paper proposes a visualization method of the beat and theoretically identifies the reason why the clear and unclear beats repeat periodically along the circumference of the bell and how the striking position influences the beat distribution property.

The presence of the sound tube and resonance cavity is unique in Korea Brahman Bells which is no examples in other country bells in the world. The sound tube erected in the crown is effective to emit the fundamental tone of the bell when the condition of resonant transmissibility is satisfied. The results of our analysis shows that the optimum length of the sound tube in the Bell Emile is 96cm but is not the present length, 77cm. The resonance cavity erected underneath the lip of the Bell Emile is found to be for the resonance of standing waves in the space including both bell cavity and resonance cavity and resonance cavity to the fundamental tone of the bell itself, in order that the strongest vibration can last long by least energy and lengthen the reverberation of the bell. Some historical remarks are also made on the magic flute, MANPASIKJUK, which was in existence in Shilla that can lull all evil waves, such as plagues, storms, droughts, famines and even enemies. The sound tube erected in the crown of the bell was originated in this magic flute. Finally, a strong proposal is advanced on the new national symbol of Korean traditional cultural assets. Indeed, it should be highly recommended that the Great King's Bell Emile would be the only real symbol of our national cultural assets by its own right of excellency and richness in every aspect of arts and sciences.

Objective : This study was designed to evaluate the influence of time from onset of Bell's palsy until commenced Oriental medicine therapy on Bell's palsy. Methods : We investigated 35 cases of patients with peripheral facial palsy who visited Wonkwang University Oriental Hospital from 10th, December 2010 to 31st August, 2011 and classified them as time from onset of Bell's palsy until commenced Oriental medicine therapy. Time from onset of Bell's palsy until commenced Oriental medicine therapy of Group A was within 3 days. Group B was from 4 days to 8 days. We evaluate the treatment effect of each group by House-Brackmann grade before treatment and 1,3 week treatment. Results : 1. There was a statistical difference in period from onset of Bell's palsy until commenced Oriental medicine therapy between Group A and Group B. 2. There was a statistical difference after 1 week treatment in Group B. 3. There was a statistical difference after 3 weeks treatment in both Group A and B.3. After 3 week treatment, there was statistical significant difference in decreased value of House-Brackmann grade between Group A and Group B. Group A showed more recovery compared with Group B. Conclusions : 1. These results suggest that early oriental medicine treatment could be more effective in recovery of Bell's palsy. 2. Further studies will be required to identify the beneficial effect of early oriental medicine treatment in bell's palsy.

Beat map shows the distribution property of the beating sound in the bell structure. Using the beat map, beat control and beat estimation are available. To draw the beat map, mode pair parameters of the bell are required. However, in case of large bell which is struck by a heavy wooden hammer, it is very difficult to measure the excitation force and to obtain the mode pair parameters. In this paper, we determined the mode pair parameters of the bell from the transmissibility between the roving signal and reference signal, using ODS(operational deflection shape) method. The mode pair data are input to the theoretical model of the beat response and beating waves are generated on the bell circumference. All the numerical and beat map drawing procedures are automatized using Matlab. Finally, the reliability of the beat map generated by the program is verified.

This study investigated the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of Makgeolli (a traditional Korean rice wine) made with Etteum bell flower root (0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% with steamed rice) during fermentation. The pH values of Makgeolli with Etteum bell flower root powder decreased after 3 days of fermentation and then increased after 5 days of fermentation. Sugar content decreased after 3 days of fermentation. Color evaluation showed the L values of these drinks decreased during fermentation, whereas a and b values both increased. The alcohol content of Makgeolli increased after fermentation, reaching a maximum concentration of 7.90-8.07% by the end of fermentation. Total phenolic compound contents and DPPH radical scavenging activities increased as the ratio of Etteum bell flower root increased. Sensory scores of Makgeolli fermented with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root ware greater than those of Makgeolli prepared by other treatments. Therefore, Makgeolli added with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root added considered to be the most suitable for manufacturing.

The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics and antioxidant activities of vinegar made with Etteum bell flower root (0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%) during two-step fermentation. Acetic acid was fermented at $30^{\circ}C$ for 16 days and samples of vinegar were extracted at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 days. The pH of Etteum bell flower root vinegar did not significantly differ among the samples, but the acidity increased during fermentation. Alcohol content decreased at 16 days of fermentation and less than 1% alcohol was shown in all samples after fermentation. The pure acetic acid yield was 88.85~98.97%, whereby the total phenolic compound content and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities increased as the ratio of the Etteum bell flower root increased. The sensory scores of vinegar fermented with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root are greater than those of vinegar prepared by other treatments. Therefore, vinegar with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root added is considered to be the most suitable for manufacturing.

한국종은 지면으로부터 일정한 간극을 두고 매달리며, 종 아래에 명동이라고 불리는 독특한 음향학적 요소를 갖고 있다. 간극과 명동의 적절한 설계는 공명효과에 의하여 종소리를 극적으로 증폭시킨다. 종체의 내부공동과 간극, 그리고 명동으로 구성된 음향공동계는 공명주파수와 모드를 갖는데, 공명주파수가 종체의 고유진동수에 일치하게 되면, 그 주파수성분이 크게 증폭된다. 이 연구는 성덕대왕신종을 대상으로 간극효과를 고려한 명동의 공명조건을 처음으로 제시한다. 공명조건을 구하기 위하여 신종의 실제 치수를 사용하여 SYSNOISE를 이용한 경계요소해석을 수행하였다. 또한, 계절에 따른 기온의 차이가 공명조건에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 규명하고, 가변형 명동의 개념을 제시함으로써, 현장에서 온도차를 보정하여 정확한 공명조건을 구현시킬 수 있는 방안을 제공한다.

Maintaining our tradition makes us have pride for our nation and plays important role for recognition and establishment of identity for our unique culture in the world. Contrast to the western scientific technique, the scientific technique of Silla Bell absorbed in the life of our nation is the fruit of wisdom science found through rich life and experience by harmony between our nation and nature. Today, ideological backgrounds for many cultural heritages weren't be found and there are many overflowing hypothesis. Silla Bell is the plastic art including cumulative utopia of the racial spirit. So there would be the information of the racial spirit including symbolization, artistry, creativity, and historicity. However, unlikely with the words, it is the profoundly concentrated shape, so the meaning can be diluted or distorted in later generation. The efforts to figure out the symbolization in Korean bells, especially Silla bell according to its exclusive shape, but no hypothesis was accepted as an established theory of academia by gaining extensive agreements. Thus this paper traces the symbolic meaning accumulated in the shape and prepares for the theoretical background accessing to the artistic spirit of forebears who created super-humanity formativeness. Also regarding the Silla bell which is regarded as the best Buddhist metal craft that people believe they can be free from the anguish at the time of listening to its sound, we studied the symbolization of the bell as the religious ritual custom as well as the possibility to utilize the bell as a motif of living art in the aspect of formative expression.

The Background and Purpose : Most diagnostic method for the facial palsy were invasive and complex. And we don't know very well prognosis for the recovery of facial palsy in the first stage after the onset. But the Digital Infrared Thermal Image(DITI) isn't invasive and complex diagnostic method for the facial palsy. So we should study on the clinical prognostic diagnosis of Bell's palsy among facial palsy with the DITI. Objective and Methods : This study researched into the clinical statistics for 89 case who are in Bell's palsy, and they are treated with oriental medical care at the Woosuk university during 2 years form November 1998 to October 2000. All objectives have the Grade 6(Zero state) of Bell's palsy in first week after the onset. It takes a patient's facial temperature after the onset. Group A is taken from 1 day to 4 days after the onset. Group B is taken from 5 day to 8 days after the onset. And group C is taken from 9 day to 12 days after the onset. Results and Conclusions : The Digital Infrared thermal image technique showed the more high temperature, the more rapid cure and short treatment period on TE23, B2, S3, S6 in abnormal site of Bell's palsy. But it showed the more low temperature, the more rapid cure and short treatment period on TE17 of abnormal site of Bell's palsy. As a conclusion, we could think that the prognostic diagnosis of Bell's palsy closely related with the thermal difference normal and abnormal site of Bell's palsy that were took picture after the onset.

Effects of mycorrhizal infection on the growth of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum) and corn (Zea mays) seedlings have been studied by comparing plants grown in sterilized soil/sand mixtures to plants grown in sterilized soil/sand mixtures with topping the original non-sterile field soil. The original nonsterile field soil, which were taken from the bell pepper field, contained a high level of endmycorrhizal spores. After seven weeks, the shoot height of inoculated plants was increased by 110% in bell pepper, and 90% in corn compared with the control plants. The average above-ground biomass of inoculated plant was increased by 88% in bell pepper and 71% in corn compared with the control plants. The shoot-root ratios in bell pepper and corn were 2.7 and 1.8 for the control plants, and 4.3 and 2.7 for the treatment plants, respectively. Phosphorus level in inoculated plant was higher than that of the control plant. However, nitrogen contents were similar between the control and the treatment plants. The control plants didi not form vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae during the experimental period.
