  • There are many spreading effects that never experienced before due to digital progress of the present age. Digital progress produce innovative changes now in cultural environment, architectural process, exhibition techniques, called the age of digital technology. The functional relation between 'Digital' and' Architecture' must not to be overlooked in field of cyber architecture, further more, space design, so that requests some necessary to build new paradigm for digital presentation and spatial experience.

Gropius의 건축에 나타난 데 스틸 건축의 특성에 관한 연구 - 데사우 바우하우스 건물을 중심으로 - (A Study on the De Stijl's Characteristics via Gropius's Architecture)

  • Even though geographical drawbacks of Netherlands, the De Stiji Movement has been acting extensively as a composite arts movement. Furthermore, because this movement has influenced on even field of architecture, Walter Gropius, who had led to establish the modern architecture at that time, was not also able to be excluded from the influence of De Stiji movement. As a result, his works after 1922 when De Stijl movement had been acting vividly, shows a part of De Stijl style and definitely has a difference via-a-via early of his works. Therefore, this study in this point of view is on the purpose of how De Stijl Movement influenced on Gropius' works as the ideology of place and concepts in the period of both De Stijl Movement and Modern architecture style were being formed together. Especially, this study will analyze Dessau Bauhaus Building, which is the most influenced by De Stijl Style in Gropius' works, into the way of how De Stijl. was embodied to this building.

  • Architecture and music have reflected many changes occurring in a greater cultural realm. Specially, the concept of time and space formed from relativistic physics becomes the basis of cultural awareness, and a method to understand the world. Therefore, this study aims to suggest the possibility to integrate architecture and music, based on the close relationship between architecture and music of the 20th century focusing on time and space. Resultantly, in this study, interrelationship between architecture and music is elucidated by proving both the spatiality of music and the temporality of architecture, and such possibility to integrate the two realms helps understand the reality.

  • In the 21st century modem architecture, not only environmental problems and sustainable development but also two subjects, 'Globalization' and 'Localization', have become important issues. The modern application of vernacular design which is the design model including the characteristics of region, a people and tradition can be a solution for localization and sustainable development. Vernacular design gives many ideas in respect of organic art and design, the dilemma of modern architecture, and practical solution of its problems, and is considered as an important resource of modern ecological architecture. This study aims to investigate the meaning and types of vernacular design and confirm the development possibility of this design as the important element of modem regional ecological architecture. In addition, through case studies, it will demonstrate that the regional ecological architecture based on vernacular design can solve new multidimensional architectural problems in the 21st century.

  • Various kinds discussion are brought up to the table about modern social phenomenons that are practically difficult sometimes even impossible to predict in field of architecture. At the very moment, 'landscape' emerged as an important concept defining contemporary architecture a very different way. Architects have and still are processing various experiments with the changed concept of 'landscape' as it became new means to construct reality. In modern cities that have possibility and potential energy, many architects have proposed 'Landscape architecture' as an architecture mode that have indeterminacy and open to all possibilities. The present study analyzes the characteristics of landscaping that appear in contemporary architecture and interior space in recent years, and present landscape as a new possibility in interior space.

현대교회건축에서 표현되는 성막건축의 신학적 상징성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Theological Symbolism on the Tabernacle's Expressed in Modern Church Architecture)

  • The Tabernacle was Personally designed by God and was ordered from God to Moses to build it as the first Piece of church architecture that accurately showed God's love and will of salvation towards humankind. Tabernacles, through the architecture of tabernacles teaches the Lord being among us. His Holiness and man's sins, and also reflects the path of eternity as well as the good news and salvation through Jesus Christ. And the Tabernacle is talking of the Glory of New Jerusalem that is provided Kingdom of Heaven for us at the same time being a completion of a final and ultimate church constructed long predicted through the Bible being already designed by God. The external expression of modern architecture may follow the uniqueness of that age but the special quality of the interior and exterior symbolism of church architecture will have to consist the standards of God for He is the first, sincere designer.

볼프스부르크 교회의 건축 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Architectural Characteristics at Wolfsburg Church)

  • One of the big difference between Aalto and other modem architects lies in an attitude that Aalto went beyond the principle of dogmatic functionalism. As an architect of Northern Europe, Aalto made unique architecture that showed both the language of modem architecture and vernacular architecture. He presented the best example which showed modernity in architecture without losing the meaning of the context including site, region and cultural tradition. With this background, Aalto developed his own typological design approach. As Wolfsburg church was designed in his prime of time, it showed the origin and evolutionary process of religious architecture as well as general features of Aalto's design. Clustered site plan, dynamic space of interior, the adequate control of natural light are representative characteristics found in Aalto's religious architecture. Wolfsburg church also demonstrate these features in more specific way including the continuity of wall and ceiling that showed spatial dynamics, free opening of wall which reflects on functions, and careful adjust of natural light. As a result, Aalto showed his typological design strategy that added new design ideas to the accumulated design vocabularies in the design of Wolfsburg church.

피터아이젠만 건축의 실내 공간에 사용된 축에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Axis Used for Interior Spaces of Peter Eisenman Architecture)

  • This Study is about the Axis used for creating forms of interior spaces in representative works of Peter Eisenman architecture. The plans, elevations, photos of interior spaces of his architecture were collected and analysed. In conclusion, the methods using axises were classified in the axises crossing right angle and the rotating axises crossing right angle. The rotating axis were divided into one-angle rotating and multi-angle rotating. The axises were rotated on the plan or rotated on the elevation. The axises crossing right angle were used for dividing, assembling, transforming and composing different proportions of rectangles in interior spaces. The rotating axises crossing right angle were used for creating divers forms such as triangle, quadrilateral, and polygon. The one-angle rotating emphasizes directions of axises in interior spaces. The multi-angle rotating emphasizes decentered directions in interior spaces. The parts created while crossing axises three-dimensionally were opened or filled. The axises were used dynamically and three-dimensionally for diversity of forms in interior spaces of Peter Eisenman architecture.

  • This study aims at developing the high speed/intelligent machining system suing the plug/play method of an open architecture controller. The plug/play technology by the Application Specific Function (ASF), can readily implement the open architecture controller into various machining system or other automatic equipments. For the open architecture controller, this study developed the open HMI, screen editor, ASF, visual builder, and controller OS technology as software components. On the other hand, we developed the I/O module and main board as control hardware system. This study, as an example, presents integration of individual component technologies for the plug/play type open architecture CNC system.

A Study on the Characteristics of Digital Architecture Expressed in the Contemporary Fashion Works of Hussein Chalayan

  • This study analyses the qualities of digital architecture applying digital technologies by examining the qualities applied to the fashion designs of Husssein Chalayan. The aim of this study is to forecast in what ways the digital influence over fashion will evolve. This study was based on literature and case studies to examine the characteristics of digital architecture, and a case analysis of fashion design was conducted on the collections of Hussein Chalayan that draw heavily from technology. As a result, it was possible to classify the characteristics of digital architecture into five groups - immateriality, interactivity, nonlinearity, liquidity, and hypersurface; in addition, all of these characteristics were found in the works of Hussein Chalayan. The digital paradigm will continue to influence modern architecture and fashion in functional and/ or expressive terms that will continue to strengthen through the further advancement of digital technology.
