Korea Electric Power Research Institute has carried out verification of communication conformance on IEC 61850 based IEDs related to power IT project "Development of Prototype for Advanced Substation Automation System based on the Digital Control Technology". Owing to IEC 61850 international standard and digital substation automation system, IED testing process should be changed from the conventional way to the new way described in the paper. This paper describes IED testing procedures based on substation automation system using UML.

A system-on-a-chip communication architecture has a significant impact on the performance and power consumption of modern multi-processors system-on-chips (MPSoCs). However, customization of such architecture for a specific application requires the exploration of a large design space. Thus, system designers need tools to rapidly explore and evaluate communication architectures. In this paper we present the method for application-specific low-power bus architecture synthesis at system-level. Our paper has two contributions. First, we build a bus power model of AMBA AXI bus communication architecture. Second, we incorporate this power model into a low-power architecture exploration algorithm that enables system designers to rapidly explore the target bus architecture. The proposed exploration algorithm reduces power consumption by 20.1% compared to a maximally connected reduced matrix, and the area is also reduced by 20.2% compared to the maximally connected reduced matrix.
To obtain higher power efficiency of Residential Power Generation system(RPG), it is needed to operate system on optimized stoichiometric ratios of fuel and air. Stoichiometric ratios of fuel/air are closely related to efficiency of stack, reformer and power consumption of Balance Of Plant(BOP). In this paper, optimizing stoichiometric ratios of fuel/air are conducted through systematic experiments and modeling. Based on fundamental principles and experimental data, constraints are chosen. By implementing these optimum values of stoichiometric ratios, power efficiency of the system could be maximized.
The modem large electric power system has made power system analysis much more complex and difficult. For effective analysis of the power system, model reduction and aggregation is required. In this paper, a new relation index to identify the coherency among the generators is presented and also a new aggregation method is presented to aggregate the coherent generators in the large scale power system while matching the power flow. In order to demonstrate the effects of this aggregation method, it is applied to the IEEE 39 bus test power system and to the 2006 summer power system of Korea Electric Power Corporation, and the simulation results are compared with those of the original system.
This paper presents the load modeling process and bus load models for KEPCO power system. At first, load devices commonly used in KEPCO power systems were selected, and tested for measuring the voltage and frequency sensitivity of active and reactive power. From this test, about 40 voltage and frequency dependent load models have been obtained. The bus load composition rate for KEPCO power system has been determined using the various recent surveys and papers in order to develop the load model for a power system bus. To verify the accuracy of developed bus load models, the field test for measuring active and reactive power according to artificial variation of the bus voltage was performed at 8 substations for spring summer, autumn, winter cases. With data of this seasonal field test, more reliable bus load models for KEPCO power systems were developed.
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) started a fuel cell project to develop alternative sources of electric power because of the rapid increase in power demand and global environmental problems. For the development of a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC), KEPCO started the project in 1993 to develop a 2 kW MCFC system and finished it at the end of 1996. In this project, $ASPEN^+$ was utilized to design the 2 kW MCFC generation system. Based on this simulation, a power generation system was designed and installed for operation and a long term test of internally manifolded 2 kW class MCFC stack. This stack has 20 cells with an effective electrode area of $1000\;cm^2$. It was run at 0.84 V and $150\;mA/cm^2$ and was operated for more than 3,250 hours continuously. This paper describes the system configuration and its control and measurement units. An analysis of the stack performance, the effect of gas utilization ratio, and the stack performance requirements are also discussed.
The asset management system for power distribution is necessary to make efficient use of distribution asset and to devise optimum investment plans. So we developed KDAMS(Korea Distribution Asset Management System) that is adopting reliability indexs, SAIFI and SAIDI, and operator's experiences. This paper presents functions of the system that is reliability management, failure rate management, establishment of optimum investment plan and so on. And it presents the of used algorithms to develop this system.
In this paper, a positioning method of distributed power system is proposed to minimize the average voltage variation of a DC microgrid through voltage sensitivity analysis. The voltage sensitivity under a droop control depends on the position of the distributed power system. In order to acquire a precise voltage sensitivity under a droop control, we analyzed the power flow by introducing a droop bus with the considerations of the droop characteristics. The results of the positioning method are verified through PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.
YGN 3 and 4 are the nuclear power plants having System 80 characteristics with a rated thermal output of 2815 MWth and a nominal net electrical output of 1040 MWe. YGN 3 achieved commercial operation on March 31, 1995 and YGN 4 completed Power Ascension Test (PAT) at 20%, 50%, 80% and 100% power by September 23, 1995. YGN 3 and 4 design incorporates the Reactor Power Cutback System (RPCS) which reduces plant trips caused by Loss of Load (LOL)/Turbine Trip and Loss of One Main Feedwater Pump (LOMFWP). The key design objective of the RPCS is to improve overall plant availability and performance, while minimizing challenges to the plant safety systems. The RPCS is designed to rapidly reduce reactor power by dropping preselected Control Element Assemblies (CEAs) while other NSSS control systems maintain process parameters within acceptable ranges. Extensive RPCS related tests performed during the initial startup of YGN 4 demonstrated that the RPCS can maintain the reactor on-line without opening primary or secondary safety valves and without actuating the Engineered Safety Features Actuation System (ESFAS). It is expected that use of the RPCS at YGN will increase the overall availability of the units and reduce the number of challenges to plant safety systems.
Through machine learning-based load prediction, it is possible to prevent excessive power generation or unnecessary economic investment by estimating the appropriate amount of facility investment in consideration of the load that will increase in the future or providing basic data for policy establishment to distribute the maximum load. However, in order to secure the reliability of the developed load prediction model in the field, the performance comparison verification between the distribution line load prediction models must be preceded, but a comparative performance verification system between the distribution line load prediction models has not yet been established. As a result, it is not possible to accurately determine the performance excellence of the load prediction model because it is not possible to easily determine the likelihood between the load prediction models. In this paper, we developed a reliability verification system for load prediction models including a method of comparing and verifying the performance reliability between machine learning-based load prediction models that were not previously considered, verification process, and verification result visualization methods. Through the developed load prediction model reliability verification system, the objectivity of the load prediction model performance verification can be improved, and the field application utilization of an excellent load prediction model can be increased.
