Estimation of Suspended Sediment Load in Imha-Andong Watershed using SWAT Model (SWAT 모델을 이용한 임하.안동 유역의 부유사량 발생량 추정)

  • For efficient turbid water management a SWAT model was established for the Imha-Andong watershed where serious turbid water problems have frequently occurred. To evaluate soil loss combined with rainfall runoff process, the analysis focused on comparing the daily runoff discharge and concentration of suspended sediment (SS) using measured data sets. The results of annual SS load analysis for each sub-basin using the calibrated model showed that in the entire target watershed the soil loss ranged from 0.7 to 5.9 tons/ha in year 2005 and from 3.0 to 34.0 tons/ha in year 2003 when the typhoon 'Maemi' severly affected the area. In the future, it is suggest to increase model simulation accuracies supported by a long-term and extensive monitoring to enhance basin-wide suspended sediment estimation and management.

Development of intelligent coagulant feeding system (지능형 응집제 투입 시스템의 개발)

  • Coagulant feeding control is very important in the water treatment process. Coagulant feeding is related to the raw water quality such as turbidity, alkalinity, water temperature, pH and so on. However, since the process of chemical reaction has not been clarified so far, coagulant dosing rate has been decided by jar-test. In order to overcome the difficulty mentioned above, Fuzzy Neural Network to fuse fuzzy logic and neural network was proposed, and the scheme was applied to the automatic determination of coagulant dosing rate. This algorithm can automatically identify the if-then rules, tune the membership functions by utilizing expert's experimental data. The proposed scheme is evaluated by computer simulation and interfaced with coagulant feeder operated by magnetic flowmeter, control valve and PLC. It is shown that coagulant feeding according to real time sensing of water quality is very effective.

  • KEPCO's high voltage distribution power line laid under the ground near to the J-booster pumping station that supply water for living. Lightening rod equipment does not installed at the J-booster pumping station because KEPCO's over head ground wire for protection functions as a lightening rod equipment. In this study, it is concerned whether KEPCO's over head ground wire for protect the distribution power line affect to the J-booster pumping station which is installed for reduce the damage from the direct and indirect lightening. If KEPCO's protection area does not affect to the J-pumping station, it is plan to examine the construction method of lightening rod protection angle and lightening rod equipment and to suggest the optimum protection plan using the surrounding structure based on the suitability of protection area.

  • The environmental ecological flow (EEF) of stream or river will be designated according to the enforcement of the Water Environment Preservation Act. Previous researches by Ministry of Environment have proposed agricultural reservoirs as alternative resources to secure river flow where multi-purpose dam does not exist. However, agricultural reservoirs are constructed for the supply of agricultural water, and in fact, there is not a sufficient amount of water to be supplied to rivers as EEF. Therefore, this study examines the economic feasibility of securing EEF through the remodeling or construction of agricultural reservoirs. We investigated water balance of reservoir through simulation of three types of water supply demands such as agricultural water, agricultural water and river maintenance flow, and agricultural water and environmental ecology flow. The economics analysis was conducted on water supply demands and corresponding remodeling or construction of reservoirs. As a result, it was found that the method of securing through heightening existing reservoir enhancement is economically feasible. However, it was not possible to secure all the amount of the EEF due to the size limitation of existing reservoirs or constrain of the watershed for newly built reservoir. Therefore, in order to secure all of the EEF, the utilization of other alternatives as well as agricultural reservoirs should be considered. This study demonstrated the method of economical feasibility study of securing river maintenace flow and EEF using agricultural reservoirs and other considerations.

The Estimation of GIS-based Monthly Soil Erosion with Rainfall Weighting Value (강우가중치를 이용한 GIS기반 월별 토사유실량 평가)

  • Because the geological features of Imha basin are composed of clay and shale layer, much soil particle flows into reservoir in shape of muddy water when it rains a lot. Therefore, turbidity data can be indirect-index to estimate the soil erosion of Imha basin. This study evaluated annual soil erosion using GIS-based soil erosion model and applied rainfall weighting value method by time-series rainfall data to estimate monthly soil erosion. In view of 2003 turbidity data, monthly soil erosion with rainfall weighting value is more efficient than monthly soil erosion with rainfall data.

  • Soil particles from rainfall flow into reservoir and give lots of influence in water quality because the geological conditions and landcover characteristics of Imdong watershed have a weakness against soil loss. Especially, reservoir slant is indicated by the main source area of soil loss. This study selected RUSLE model that could apply GIS and satellite image to evaluate the contribution rate of soil loss in reservoir slant. And we carried out an on-the-spot survey for the range, width and condition of reservoir slant that give much influences to the accuracy of soil loss. As the result of evaluation to the influence of soil loss in reservoir slant, it showed 2.64% in comparison with Imdong watershed. In view of these results, the influence of soil loss in reservoir slant was evaluated in low comparing with Imdong watershed relatively.

Analysis of Observed And Simulated Runoff on Downstream of Reservoir (댐 하류 관측 및 모의 유출량의 비교 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 댐 하류지역의 물관리를 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 금강수계의 댐 하류지역인 논산지점을 대상으로 기 개발된 수위-유량 곡선식에 의해 추정된 유출량과 RRFS에 의해 추정된 유출량을 실제 분석하고자하는 시점에서 도보측정에 의해 측정된 유출량과 비교하였다. 이러한 유출분석을 위해 유출분석의 기초자료인 논산유역의 면적강우량을 산정하고자 8개의 강우관측지점을 선정하고 티센계수를 구하였다. 각 방법별 유출량의 비교를 위해 도보측정에 의한 유출량은 2005년부터 2006년까지 각각 39회와 40회에 걸쳐 추정되었고 기 개발된 수위-유량곡선식에 의한 유출량은 국가수자원관리 종합시스템에서 제공하는 수위-유량곡선식을 사용하여 추정되었으며 RRFS에 의한 유출량은 매개변수의 민감도분석과 보정에 의해 추정되었다. 이들 방법에 의한 유출량 중에서 도보측정에 의한 유출량을 참값으로 가정하고 수위-유량곡선식에 의한 유출량과 RRFS에 의한 유출량, 각각에 대한 상대평균제곱근오차와 상대절대오차를 구하였다. 이러한 오차분석 결과에서 2005년과 2006년 모두 RRFS에 의한 유출량이 기 개발된 수위-유량 곡선식에 의한 유출량보다 도보 측정에 의한 유출량에 더 근접하는 좋은 결과를 나타내었다. 따라서 향후 댐 하류 주요지점을 대상으로 유출분석을 실시할 경우 본 연구와 같은 분석 절차를 거쳐야 할 것이다.

  • In Korea, over 97% of local energy demand is imported from other countries. And we have to lift the energy independence level up to 5% with replacement energy (renewable energy) such as solar, small hydropower, etc. by 2011 according to the energy agreement made in Kyoto Protocol. So, we proposed some opinions such as the better improvement of small hydropower industry the people' view, cooperation among industry/university/research institutes, remote control/maintenance and goverment's legislature and supporting system etc.
