  • A plane-parallel model of the diffuse Galactic light (DGL) is calculated assuming exponential disks of interstellar dust and OB stars, by solving exactly the radiative transfer equation using an iterative method. We perform a radiative transfer calculation for a model with generally accepted scale heights of stellar and dust distribution and compare the results with those of van de Hulst & de Jong for a constant slab model. We also find that the intensity extrapolated to zero dust optical depth has a negative value, against to the usual expectation.

  • The SPICA (SPace Infrared Telescope for Cosmology & Astrophysics) project is a next-generation infrared space telescope optimized for mid- and far-infrared observation with a cryogenically cooled 3m-class telescope. The focal plane instruments onboard SPICA will enable us to resolve many astronomical key issues from the formation and evolution of galaxies to the planetary formation. The FPC-S (Focal Plane Camera - Sciecne) is a near-infrared instrument proposed by Korea as an international collaboration. Owing to the capability of both low-resolution imaging spectroscopy and wide-band imaging with a field of view of $5^{\prime}{\times}5^{\prime}$, it has large throughput as well as high sensitivity for diffuse light compared with JWST. In order to strengthen advantages of the FPC-S, we propose the studies of probing population III stars by the measurement of cosmic near-infrared background radiation and the star formation history at high redshift by the discoveries of active star-forming galaxies. In addition to the major scientific targets, to survey large area opens a new parameter space to investigate the deep Universe. The good survey capability in the parallel imaging mode allows us to study the rare, bright objects such as quasars, bright star-forming galaxies in the early Universe as a way to understand the formation of the first objects in the Universe, and ultra-cool brown dwarfs. Observations in the warm mission will give us a unique chance to detect high-z supernovae, ices in young stellar objects (YSOs) even with low mass, the $3.3{\mu}$ feature of shocked circumstance in supernova remnants. Here, we report the current status of SPICA/FPC project and its extragalactic sciences.

  • This work proposes an optimality criteria applicable to the optimum design of plane frames. Stress constraints as well as displacement constraints are treated as behavioural constraints and thus the first order approximation of stress constraints is adopted. The design space of practical reinforced concrete frames with discrete design variables has been found to have many local minima, and thus it is desirable to find in advance the mathematical minimum, hopefully global, prior to starting to search a practical optimum design. By using the mathematical minimum as a trial design of any search algorithm, we may not full into a local minimum but apparently costly design. Therefore this work aims at establishing a mathematically rigorous method ⑴ by adopting first-order approximation of constraints, ⑵ by reducing the design space whenever minimum size restrictions become "active" and ⑶ by the of Newton-Raphson Method.

  • Studies on space-invariant pattern recognition have been carried out from various approaches. Pattern recognition system using SDF filter, from weighted linear summation of tranining images, has been the focus of research since its first appearence. In this thesis, off-axis pSDF spatial matched filter has been constructed by combining angular multiplexing of off-axis reference plane wave with pSDF filter made from pseudo-inverse algorithm, and transformed to phase only filter. From observation of the correlation responses in the correlation plane, it is shown that proposed off-axis pSDF spatial matched filter is available to pattern classification and can be used for optical correlator.

  • This paper proposes a method of estimating location of a target point at which an interactive robot gazes in an indoor space. RGB images are extracted from low-cost web-cams, user head pose is obtained from the face detection (Openface) module, and geometric configurations are applied to estimate the user's gaze direction in the 3D space. The coordinates of the target point at which the user stares are finally measured through the correlation between the estimated gaze direction and the plane on the table plane.

  • A W-band Orthomode Transducer (OMT) has been developed for Korean VLBI Network (KVN) polarization observation. The OMT design was based on E-plane split-block technique using septum structure. 3-dimensional electromagnetic simulation was fully employed to optimize the performance of the OMT. Measurements of the fabricated OMT show that the return losses for the vertically and horizontally polarized modes are better than -20 dB across 80 ~ 108 GHz and the insertion losses for the both modes are less than 0.47 dB. The cross-polarization level of the OMT is less than -30 dB. The bandwidth of the developed OMT is estimated as around 30%.

  • A survey project of TRAO with the fifteen beam array receiver system is presented. A multibeam array receiver system has been purchased from FCRAO, and is being installed on TRAO 14m telescope. The target region of the survey is from ${\iota}=120^{\circ}{\sim}137^{\circ},\;b=-1^{\circ}{\sim}+ 1^{\circ}$, and velocity resolution would be 1 km/sec after smoothing from the original resolution of $0.64km\;s^{-1}$ in the transition of J = 1-0 of $^{13}CO$. The survey region is a part of the $^{12}CO$ Outer Galaxy Survey(OGS), and would be an extension of the Bell Laboratories $^{13}CO$ Galactic Plane Survey. By combining with the existing $^{12}CO$ database of the Outer Galaxy Survey, we will derive physical properties of identified molecular clouds and will conduct and statistical analysis of the Outer Galalxy molecular clouds. Reduction process and analysis methods will be introduced.

  • Liturgical space is the most important in the spaces of catholic church architecture. But Since 1980's, korea catholic church has concentrated on functionality, decoration and sensuous expression. Thus this study analyzed the catholic liturgical space for reinforcing the present status of catholic church through Pyeongtaek district's parish in Diocese of Suwon. Although there are many compositional elements in catholic liturgical space, this study focused on the figures of church plane, the arrangement of nave's chair, the condition of sanctuary and the place of sacristy etc. Though there are many changes in composition elements of liturgical space by the 2nd Council of the Vatican, composition elements of site(shape, price, access road, area etc.) have an effect on liturgical space, too. But up to now, despite the necessity of the principles of liturgical space which are yet to be lacked.

  • We report the detailed design of an unprecedented wideband(band7+8) corrugated feed horn in ASTE focal plane array aiming for future ALMA receiver. We have found that such design constraints as return loss, cross-polarization level, beam width and phase curvature can be controlled by optimizing critical corrugation parameters at the throat and flare region of the horn. The success of optimization manifest itself through simulated aperture effciency over 80 % at the entire frequency range. Physical implications of the resulting corrugation parameters are discussed.

  • This paper presents a 3-D pose (position and orientation) estimation method for an elliptic object in 3-D space. It is difficult to resolve the problem of determining 3-D pose parameters with respect to an elliptic feature in 3-D space by interpretation of its projected feature onto an image plane. As an alternative, we propose a two points-based pose estimation algorithm to seek the 3-D information of an elliptic feature. The proposed algorithm determines a homogeneous transformation uniquely for a given correspondence set of an ellipse and two coplanar points that are defined on model and image plane, respectively. For each plane, two triangular features are extracted from an ellipse and two points based on the polarity in 2-D projection space. A planar homography is first estimated by the triangular feature correspondences, then decomposed into 3-D pose parameters. The proposed method is evaluated through a series of experiments for analyzing the errors of 3-D pose estimation and the sensitivity with respect to point locations.
