  • Background: In 1997 the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors (KAMJE) instituted a program to evaluate member journals. Journals that passed the initial evaluation were indexed in the KoreaMed. Here, we report changes in measures of quality of the KAMJE member journals during the last 20 years. Methods: Quality measures used in the study comprised 3 assessment categories; self-assessment by journal editors, assessment of the journals by KAMJE reviewers, and by Korean health science librarians. Each used detailed criteria to score the journals on a scale of 0 to 5 or 6 in multiple dimensions. We compared scores at baseline evaluation and those after 7 years for 129 journals and compared improvements in journals indexed vs. not-indexed by the Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded; SCIE). Results: Among 251 KAMJE member journals at the end of 2015, 227 passed evaluation criteria and 129 (56%) had both baseline and 7-year follow-up assessment data. The journals showed improvement overall (increase in median [interquartile range; IQR] score from baseline, 0.47 [0.64]; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.44-0.61; P < 0.001) and within each category (median [IQR] increase by editor's assessment, 0.17 [0.83]; 95% CI, 0.04-0.26; P = 0.007; by reviewer's, 0.45 [1.00]; 95% CI, 0.29-0.57; P < 0.001; by librarian's, 1.75 [1.08]; 95% CI, 1.77-2.18, P < 0.001). Before the foundation of KAMJE in 1996, there were only 5 Korean medical journals indexed in the MEDLINE and none in SCIE, but 24 journals in the MEDLINE and 34 journals in SCIE were indexed by 2016. Conclusion: The KAMJE journal evaluation program successfully contributes improving the quality of the member journals.

  • The new crown pneumonia (COVID-19) has become a global epidemic. The disease has spread to most countries and poses a challenge to the healthcare system. Contact tracing technology is an effective way for public health to deal with diseases. Many experts have studied traditional contact tracing and developed digital contact tracking. In order to better understand the field of contact tracking, it is necessary to analyze the development of contact tracking in the field of computer science by bibliometrics. The purpose of this research is to use literature statistics and topic analysis to characterize the research literature of contact tracking in the field of computer science, to gain an in-depth understanding of the literature development status of contact tracking and the trend of hot topics over the past decade. In order to achieve the aforementioned goals, we conducted a bibliometric study in this paper. The study uses data collected from the Scopus database. Which contains more than 10,000 articles, including more than 2,000 in the field of computer science. For popular trends, we use VOSviewer for visual analysis. The number of contact tracking documents published annually in the computer field is increasing. At present, there are 200 to 300 papers published in the field of computer science each year, and the number of uncited papers is relatively small. Through the visual analysis of the paper, we found that the hot topic of contact tracking has changed from the past "mathematical model," "biological model," and "algorithm" to the current "digital contact tracking," "privacy," and "mobile application" and other topics. Contact tracking is currently a hot research topic. By selecting the most cited papers, we can display high-quality literature in contact tracking and characterize the development trend of the entire field through topic analysis. This is useful for students and researchers new to field of contact tracking ai well as for presenting our results to other subjects. Especially when comprehensive research cannot be conducted due to time constraints or lack of precise research questions, our research analysis can provide value for it.

  • In this paper, in order to support rapid and effective decision-making and response in disaster situations, we identified the author's organization of academic research papers and conducted a collaborative relationship analysis study based on this. For this purpose, 2,308 papers in 69 Korean academic journals classified by disaster and safety type were selected for analysis and experimental data were constructed based on the Korea Science Citation Database (KSCD) and institutional identification data provided by KISTI. Collaborative relationship analysis was conducted for each of the four units (Institution, Institution type, Institution region and University department type). First, statistical status such as frequency of appearance was compared, and basic properties and main centrality index of each co-occurrence network were calculated and analyzed using Social Network Analysis Method. In addition, a visualization map was created and presented for each network so that the collaborative relationship could be viewed and understood as a whole. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the search activities of institutions and cooperative groups that support effective disaster response and to lay the foundation for the information service system.

  • Global map of science, which is visualizing large scientific domains, can be used to visually analyze the structural relationships between major areas of science. This paper reviewed previous efforts on global science map, and then tried to making a science map of Korea with some new methods. There are several research groups on making global map of science including Dr. Small and Dr. Garfield of ISI (now Thompson Scientific), SCImago research group at the University of Granada, and Dr. Borner's InfoVis Lab at the Indiana University. They called their maps as science map or scientogram and called the activity of mapping science as scientography. Most of the previous works are based on citations between scientific articles. However citation database for Korean journal articles is still under construction. This research tried to make a Korean science map with the text in the proposals suggested for funding from Korean Research Foundation. Two kinds of method for generating networks of scientific fields are used. One is Pathfinder network (PFNet) alogorithm which has been used in several published bibliometric studies. The other is clustering-based network (CBnet) algorithm which was proposed recently as an alternative to PFNet. In order to take into account both views of the two algorithms, the resulting maps are combined to a final science map of Korea.
